Marvel Smith?

27 posts in this topic

I read in the Baltimore Sun and heard somewhere else that we might be pursuing him. He played RT for the Steelers last year, was drafted by them in the 2nd round in 2000, and made the pr bowl in 2005. would this be a good sign? and how would he be used?

Probably would be a good sign, because we could structure his contract differently then Willie Anderson's contract. He's younger and could probably be more productive for more years. So we could sign him and cut Big Willie, and save some cap room. It would keep Grubbs, Yanda, Chester, and Terry in the running for the G and C spots.

There's already a thread on Smith. If he passes our physical, if the medical staff gives him the thumbs up then bring him in. Would be a good RT.

And they were still horrible while he was playing. They didnt get better until toward the end of the season. I'll pass.

I'm indifferent. He'd be good for a strategic advantage against the Steelers; as an offensive lineman, he'd know Big Ben's tendencies better than what's shown on film. But other than that, I could care less.

willie anderson played really well last year. smith isn't as good as him, but younger. but signing smith wouldn't change much other than we downgraded at RT. Smith would only be a short term solution, we need to still draft a young RT so i dont see the point.

Like I said, it's probably for just a strategic advantage against the Steelers. Nothing more. Smith would instantly bring with him an intimate knowledge of the Steelers' gameplan(s), both on offense and defense (he's practiced against that defense for years, after all).

I agree with those that aren't high on Smith due to his injury history. He also may have a strike against him under the personal conduct policy for a marijuana arrest a few years back. But just to clear up his background a bit, he's been a left tackle for almost his entire career in Pittsburgh.

Are you people crazy? Marvel Smith is one of the best tackles in the league. He had back problems at the end o 2007 which lingere dover into 2008. That's why he only played a couple games b4 landing IR. He's had a lot of time since them to rehab and he says he's back to 100%. He us to be a left tackle, In fct I think he made it to the Pro Bowl as a left tackle. A former pro bowl left tackle on the right side with Gaither on the left equals :D

Marvel has not been able to finish either of the past two years.. His back flares up and he is DONE..

He went out last year and had a lot of time to heal up. Was said to be 100% going into 2008. Only lasted 4-5 games or so. Problem with Smith of late is that he seems to not get hurt while playing but simply from his back going out.

Take it from a long time Steeler fan that this guy at this point in his career is very unreliable. His best days are behind him.

Incentive ladden deal only if your GM is smart.

It appears the Ravens interest is dwindling.
