Dawkins To Denver!

15 posts in this topic

This off-season is getting completely crazy!

Phily without Dawkins is like Baltimore without Ray. Denver might be dangerous next year, as well as the whole AFC.

I was thinking the same thing. Since I live in Eagles country, I know for a fact that Brian Dawkins is to Philly what Ray Lewis is to Baltimore.

So, there are a lot of devastated Eagles fans, to say the least. It doesn't help that the soap opera with Donovan McNabb continues, and there's still questions as to whether or not the playcalling will improve.

What the heck is MCNabb going to do? When he can't rely on his defense like he did in the past when his offense was just not in toon..

"Dawkins signed a five-year, $17 million deal that includes $7.2 million guaranteed, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. The contract also has escalators that could boost the value of the deal to $27 million over five years, but the deal also could be voided to two years, $9 million, reports Schefter."

That is a wierd contract. I thought 5 years was long at first cuz that would mean hed be playing FS at 40. Granted its not normally the most physical position, but Dawkins is the one guy that would lead you to believe its THE MOST physical position on either side of the ball. That must be what the option to void after two years is about, wierd indeed...

Denver will be far from dangerous next year. Can you name 1 guy on the defensive line for Denver or a line backer that can make a play besides Elvis Dumervil?

I think this is the kind of deal we should offer Ray. Without Bart though I'd consider upping it to 20mil

Agreed, though I would've made it 22 mil with the possibility of boosting it to 32 mil based on performance. And that would've been my offer even if Bart had stayed.

He turned down a 3 year $24. Is this what you would offer him now, or what we should have offered him?

Of all the moves so far this is the one that surprised me the most. When you think of the Eagles you think McNabb and Dawkins. For sure a good move for Denver if he can adjust to the air. I've heard of players having problems and Dawkins is so active on the field and sidelines.

ummm...D.J Williams that guy is a tackling machine. I have seen some Denver games and I was impressed by a rookie by the name of Wesley woodyard he single handily shut down Micheal Turner. I'm not exaggerating either. Maybe if with Dawkins and Champ Bailey (they signed Andre Goodman and Renaldo Hill from the Phins) their secondary can be a pretty good one.

I am not impressed with the signing of a 36 year old safety. D J williams has potential, but the rest of the guys on that defense are a joke. There is a reason they were ranked 29th in the league last year. Champ is getting old and only played 9 games last year. All of those signings are great, but what did they do to shore up there run defense? You can have the best corners and safetys in the world, but if you make them try and cover for 5-6 seconds they will fold. All of these journeymen they signed will help them out, but they need ALOT of help on the line of scrimmage. All the years of Shannan trying to patchwork the defensive line has taken a toll on them.

As other people pointed out, D.J. Williams is a beast. He's posted two 100+ tackle seasons in his short 5-year career, and had 93 tackles last year during an injury-shortened campaign.

Al Wilson was also a heavily-underrated star LB on that Broncos defense for years, until he retired after being cut this past season due to age and injuries.

Boss Bailey had a decent start in Detroit before an injury ended his first season in Denver.

Basically, there's SOME talent there, and with the acquisition of Brian Dawkins and Darrell Reid, the defense will improve if they can acquire more talent through the draft. Dawkins may be aging, but the man could still play lights-out last season.

could be an ugly season for Dawkins. all his career he's been thriving off of a blitz happy defense orchestrated by a legendary d-coord. now he's going to a defense where theres more presure on the defense than the offense!

That's not too hard to do when there's no one else on your team that can tackle.
