6th season, pretty good LB. under the radar by a lot and i think could be a good replacement for the mad backer.
Good character guy and doesn't get injured much

except for the fact that he is a cover 2 lb and not much else. thats why his two teams have been the colts and bucks. both were exclusively cover 2 defenses.

Instead of another LB, the Ravens should move JJ to the middle. He isn't fast enough to be an effective pass rusher, and the pass rush is the key to pass defense. Barnes would be an excellent full-time pass rusher, and JJ could handle MLB...

Save the money for a WR, like Nate Washington - who has speed - or an OLineman, to replace Brown. Matt Birk, perhaps.
I honestly think the only move JJ needs to make is back to DE. ILB is a tough position for a 290 pound man. i don't think there are any out there
Hes not 290lb anymore, he dropped to 270lb after AD left, then this past season he played at 255lb which is ideal considering his height and strength at the point of attack.

I wanted Cato June two or three years ago when he was available. I'll still take him now, but only if he'll come cheap. He'd be more of a luxury pick-up than anything else.

JJ is 270 lbs and would be big enough to take on blocks to let Ray do the work, just as Scott did when he was here. JJ would be fine at MLB.

Mhead66, I agree with everything you said. Barnes = beast

The only thing with Barnes to me is that he seems a little too one dimensional in his playing ability, ie pass rusher.

Sizzle was just a pass rusher coming in to the league, look at his pass coverage and run containment now lol. Our system can teach Barnes the rest. Barnes has Sizzle potential.

He was definitely a beast in preseason, he got to the QB consistently... I realize it's preseason, but two speed rushers would make it harder to double-team Suggs...

Ya thats true with Suggs Ill give you that good point. We're all Ravens fans so I hope your right Barnes can turn into a complete backer.

I dont think hes very smart or disciplined, hes faster and stronger than McClain but McClain was getting all the situational/ backup snaps. There has to be a reason.

You forgot to mention Barnes played most of the season and was put on IR in late December, during the season McClain clocked 2.5 sacks and 2 safeties.

i think depending on Ray this could happen

Option 1 - Ravens dont sign Ray Lewis
The ravems move JJ inside to take up blockers and do the Bart SCott role, Tavares Gooden plays what ray did and racks up all the tackles and stuff, McClain and Barnes battle for the other OLB spot opposite Suggs, how esciting would that be

Option 2 - Ravens resign Ray Lewis
The Ravens start Ray and Tavares Inside and make Tavares add 10 pounds to do the Bart SCott role until Ray retires, onnce that happesn JJ moves inside and Gooden will take rays job and McCLain or Barnes will start

So all in all it works out the same, by having a core of suggs - Gooden - JJ - McClain/Barnes

the question is do you want to build chemistry now or wait a few years just for ray?????
