Derrick Brooks

I am not a Bucs fan but any serious NFL fan should know how that team totally fell off a cliff the second half of the season. They were someting like 9-3 and lost their last 4 games to miss the playoffs. A lot of that was because their defense couldn't stop my grandmother let alone an NFL running back.

Brooks is an outside linebacker and those guys rely on speed much more than inside linebackers like Ray do. In the second half of last season he was clearly slow and tired. Also I'm sure they're going to save a bunch of cap room by cutting him as well although I'm not sure.

they actually released 5 players. they got rid off mostly all of there big names. Derrick Brooks and Cato June, running back Warrick Dunn and wide receivers Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard.

He's def. better than Jaret Johnson, I'd look into him for sure.

If we can get Hilliard for cheap, he would be a good depth receiver, especially looking at what we had to do at the end of the season when some of our guys went down with injuries.

Brooks is a Hall-of-Famer, but he's 35 years old...

Hilliard has never been all that impressive, he's 32. Over the last 5 years, he's averaged:

45 receptions
441 yards
2 TDs

He'd be fine as a third receiver, a possessoin type, depth - like you said. As long as the Ravens can get him cheap - $1 million or less... (I wish I could be paid cheap, $1 million :D )

yes, we have to look at Hackett cuz hes a receiver and of course we need 17 of those. McClain is the m4d tyt3 RB fo shizzle, so lets pick up Griffith to fill the GAPING hole at FB, and while we're at it I think we HAVE to offer Haynesworth a 10 year, 200 million dollar contract, no question

Cato June intrigues me, too, but he would've been even more intriguing if we had gotten him two or three seasons ago instead.

On the topic of Derrick Brooks, he wasn't as good at 35 that Ray Lewis was last season at 33. So, for the record, not worth pursuing.

In terms of how shocking this must be for Bucs fans, it shouldn't really be as shocking, if you think about it. If the Bucs could let go of Warrick Dunn twice now as well as Warren Sapp and John Lynch and Simeon Rice, this shouldn't be all that surprising.

Most of them are new members. You can't blame them, they don't know any better.

Brooks, Dunn, June, Galloway and Hilliard and HC Gruden gone![/quote]

They're totally rebuilding, and I didn't think they were that far away from being a competitive playoff team... despite losing their last 4 to miss the playoffs.

They were getting old, however...
