Of course a !!!!!!!!!!HUGE!!!!!!!!!! factor carries the most weight in considering such a question....I must say my gut says the top 5.... We do have a tendency to be a top defense year after year after year after year after year after year after year........So based on our past reliable success..... I don't see any reason for us to change our winning formula for this year or the next 5 2 Six...........Soooooo........... I'm confidant we remain in the top 5 for years and years and years and years and years...........Yup........... ;)

I'm 100% confident will remain in the top 5. With or without Ray this defense STILL has Ed Reed,SUGGS and most likley Scott if Ray doesn't remain. If we let Ray get big $$ somewhere I'd love to resign Jimmy!! No worries!

If ray left, maybe Jimmy could convert to ILB, but play like Rodney Harrison (without the cheapness, I mean the position). If that happened, we would be amazing.

The thing with Ray is, our eyes are clouded from his past greatness and we can't see how damn slow he is. I've seen him blow coverage tons of times this season, and on those slants, he never actually picked the guy up. I say, "screw Ray, and move Jimmy to ILB." (Respectively :P)

If you must make a safety a LB lol, you should go with Landry over Leonard as an ILB.

I don't need ray's big time ego. I'm not begging him to stay. If he doesn't have loyalty for his team I dont have loyalty for him.

Are you kidding me? Did I once say Leonard is better in coverage!?!? Believe me, I know Landry is better in coverage. And tackling. And he's faster. The reason I said Landry for ILB is because he is a faster and a better tackler. Also strong safety's aren't all about coverage, half the time they are up in the box anyways. Now tell me, before you breath down my back, do you know what you're talking about?

I'm not a fricking dumb ******. I probably know more about football than you do, so yes, I do know what I'm talking about. You have said quite a few weird posts before, so I don't really consider what you have to say half of the time.

We dont have to worry about moving anyone to linebacker. We have so many linebackers, we had Edgar Jones playing tight end this year. If Ray leaves, Bart Scott and Tavaris Gooden (last year's 2nd round pick) will have everything well under control.

I believe Ray was our second round pick last year ;)

I will say top 5 if the team can solidify the corner position; top 10 if it doesn't. I think the team rank in the top 5 in run defense as long Ngata is there but the pass defense can be leaky at times.

On the surface, I would say it's contingent upon Lewis & Scott staying. Leonhard & CMac are gone, and Landry's health is questionable... but he'll probably be fine, since Newsome wouldn't let Leonhard go if Landry wasn't healthy.

If one of the 2 MLBs leave, it will hurt some. If both leave, it will leave a large hole...

I don't think the Ravens will sign a impact FA corner - there aren't any, for the most part. So Washington & Rolle will start, and a draft pick will learn in the nickel. That will leave the Ravens somewhat vulnerable in pass defense... but one important thing to remember...

Next year's schedule - with Detroit, Chicago, Green Bay, Oakland, Kansas City, Cleveland (2X) and Cincinnati (2X) - will make the Ravens' defensive rankings in the top 5, again.

our pass defense was ranked higher than our run defense last year..

but to the op, we will definitly be a top 5 defense next year

Technically speaking... :D

Although the Ravens were 3rd in Rush D, and 2nd in Pass D...

The Ravens' Pass D allowed 13% more passing yards than the #1 team, 22.8 passing yds/game
The Ravens' Rush D allowed 5% more rushing yards than the #1 team, 4.5 rushing yds/game

The rush D was closer to #1 than the pass D...

But I'm just being picky... :P

This defense was ranked 6th in the league in 2007 despite a host of injuries. So, star players or no star players, a Top 10 finish is probable.

The only way this defense doesn't finish in the top ten is if Greg Mattison's defense is so brand-new, that the players can't adjust until it's too late. That, or all three opposing teams in the AFC North suddenly start to have explosive offenses again.

If we lose a few key players, then I'll be content with dropping a few spots overall as long as our offense makes significant improvements, and our defense turns it on late in the season.

We really can't predict anything, though, until we know what our team will look like, at least preliminarily.

we would me mocked for all eternitiy if we made a 5'8" 180 pound safety an inside linebacker.. that is completely ridiculous.

The reason Ray is needed so badly this year...Is because of the new D coordinator with Ray his transition to Defensive Authority on the Ravens will be easier...for him to run a top rank defense would with the Professor Lewis mentor ship would phenomenal all the combine linebackers have paid respect to Ray Lewis and would like to learn his ways and they are more then likely wanting to be a raven if Ray is here...

i'd be happy to drop to about 10th to 15th overall on defense if that was because we focused more on offense and got it up to 10-15... especially passing
