No, actually I'm asking if the players get offended by getting the franchise tag put on them.
Well, I wouldn't call it offensive, but players would probably much rather be playing under a big fat contract.

Just curious, all the media hype talks about the "tag" like it's a bad thing, so figured I'd ask. Thanks for your responses!

Terrell Suggs is a big, sexy, chocolate man.

So, I'm all for franchising him again if we can't agree on a deal so that we can keep Ray and JB. It will lead to a better contract for him next year and I'm sure he'll take it better this year than he did last year.
ok, so question, is it offensive to players to be tagged?
yes it's offensive to them because there is no long term security (eg: 5 years contract 20.M guaranty). Last season sizzle "protested" the tag by not showing up during training camp.
he may do that this season too. I mean come on, we need to get this guy signed so he can concentrate on being our defensive leader!
Very true. At some point, if Suggs doesn't get the long term deal he wants, the other guys in the locker room are going to see that the team isn't taking care of their best players. This isn't just about getting Suggs back on the field in 2009. This is also about showing the rest of the players that if they perform, this team will reward them.

I should know this, but who and when was the last big contract the front office put together for a veteran? The one that comes to mind for me is Ed Reed in 2006. Have there been any big extensions in the last two offseasons?
Yeah he'll be happy, he's made it clear that he's happy as long as he's in Baltimore
I just read that Suggs doesn't want to take part in the franchise again(not saying he has a choice) but he said that if they want him to be a Raven they need to show it, and that he's 26 and wants time to explore if they have no interest in signing him to a long term deal. I think Suggs has every right to be a little mad if he gets franchised agian. He deserves more attention to me then Lewis does.

I seen him on the Masn one time talking about how he hates how every time he sees himself on T.V his mouth is hanging open, it's soo true! It's like he can't close his lip haha. He makes me laugh though, which ups him in the attractiveness department.

The way the article made it sound is that if we franchise Sizzle we wont be able to keep scott ray or Brown. Is this true?
If so its not worth it.

With every sack, Terrell's face becomes slightly less deformed in my opinion.

But c'mon, tell me that you don't find this beautiful:

Just to correct earlier posts on this thread:

A player can only be tagged in 2 consecutive years. A team can NOT tag a player a third consecutive year. That means that if Terrell Suggs IS tagged this year, then next year he is free to go wherever he wants. He can still sign with the Ravens, but if they don't make it to the Super Bowl then he would probably leave just because they tagged him twice.

Not correct. Walter Jones was given the tag in three consecutive seasons. Each time, the team has to give a 20 percent increase over the previous year.

Can he be tagged say tomarrow, then in a week sign a long-term contract, and if he does and its less then 10 mill a year do we then get that money back, is that possible

Would you rather make 20 mil in 5 years or 18-19 mil in 2 years and then possibly sign a long term deal. How much was the tag for Suggs for last year and how much is it for this year? :o
