Leigh Bodden

24 posts in this topic

the lions have announced that they will not bring back leigh Bodden next year. Could he be a good pickup for us? I think if we picked him up that would allow us to go WR in round 1. Also they said they would not retain Mike Furrey either, so yeah.

No offense, I do like the possibility, but you don't solve the problem of an aging secondary by getting another old corner.

27 is hardly old.

First of all, nobody plays well in the Lions defense, not even Ernie Sims.

In the right system, at his best Bodden can play as well as CMac. Dont let the release fool you, hes just another scapegoat for the worst team in NFL history.

Second, hes not old, hes 27 and seems to have gotten over his durability issues.

Third, we could get him for relatively cheap.

This could really work out for us, he gives us a tall #1 corner to replace MCalister, ultimately its up to Harbaugh hes a secondary specialist so Im expecting some magic from him and Ozzy this year with our secondary... dont forget Dunta Robinson is a free agent as well.

27 is old in the NFL. C Mac is only 31 and they been calling him an aged player for the last 3-4 seasons. Futhermore, I was never impressed with Leigh Bodden, even when he played for the Browns. Also, as you said, he has durability issues. I can't believe this would be a good pickup.

I see this has being an opportunity for us to beef up the secondary while concentrating on a good WR. Everyone plays differently with the ravens. once he is in place and has a chance to work with the rest of our defense. It is definetly worth a shot, I wouldn't judge anybody by how they played with the Lions it was such a mishandled franchise. Cmac is an excellent CB and has played great when he isn't injured. I think picking up Leigh Bodden as a FA would be a good choice.

bodden is a little over rated, hes not a pro bowl caliber player imo but not a bad one either. he is not old either. but we wouldn't pick a WR in the first anyway. Only WRs of first round value are Crabtree and Maclin, and they wont be there at 26th. Grab anyone else and we wont be picking the best player in the draft and end up with another Travis Taylor or Mark Clayton.

I thought Bodden was playing at a very high level before Cleveland traded him to Detroit? When they did that I was kind of confused because I remember a few plays against us the year before he was traded and I thought that he was going to help that D become a lot better. As far as his age goes he has a lot left in the tank at age 27, or he should I guess I should say. I have always felt that when you add most anybody to this Defense they become playmakers and our players some how bring out the best in you, so to add a pretty good player from another teams D would hopefully mean a rising star playing with ours and Fabian Washington could be an example of that.

If we lost c-mac and rolle then id say do it, but otherwise dont. We need to draft one anyways, we can't just keep putting band-aids on our corner problems.

If you all think the draft is the way to fix the corner position, you're crazy. LAST year was the year to get a corner, and we didn't. Instead, we chose to get a RB(the deepest position on our team) in the 2nd round.

Bodden would be a great pick-up for this reason:

All he has to do is replace FRANK WALKER! That's it! If we sign him for no other reason than to fill a roster spot and guarantee that Frank Walker will not be on the team... then it is worth it. And on top of it all, he's really not that bad... and NOBODY can tackle worse than Fabian Washington, so he'll be an addition in that department as well.

Age is catching up with Rolle and CMac, pretending it wont be a factor because they played solidly (when they werent INJURED) is a bad idea, especially with the cap tied up in Mac. Im sorry but the team comes first.

I dont think we can trade or cut Walker because of the cap hit, and Fabian Washington is only ever going to be a solid #2 corner.

Right now there are two FAs we need to look at, Leigh Bodden and Dunta Robinson. Even just as a solid bandaid #1 corner we need some consistency and a secondary that can play 16+ games TOGETHER.

Lol, football fans say that every year, because its true, every single year
Wake up guys! Frank Walker is a very good corner!
I hope I am catching sarcasm..... I really hope I am. <_<

No. Just no.

He is barely a servicable backup #2 cornerback. At his best he does OK, although I did see him knock the ball out of Nate Washingtons hands in the endzone and I was so shocked I almost fell out of my seat, it was nice but then he blew the cover tackle on Santonios TD trying to blow him up instead of make the tackle.

He has horrible discipline and a horrible attitude which may have cost us games and will likely cost us close games in the future, he doesnt play tight enough, will freelance at times and just gets burnt too often. I would be happy if he could back up his trash talk on the field but he doesnt.

Remember, Walker was released from the Pack because he was deemed too aggressive and a liability in coverage.

Now Im not labelling Leigh Bodden or Dunta Robinson the answers to our CB issues, but have the opportunity to join our elite D and play better, wether either could be a legit #1 or #2 CB isnt an issue, they are both very solid and better than our current backups and provide more longevity at a better price than CMac and/or Rolle.

Drafting a CB in our position in the 1st round is a risk and is drafting for the future not really this coming season, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Robinson is looking for a huge contract, and he's clearly not worth it. The guy has only 1 leg left and he got beat like a drum last year.
Bodden used to be a good corner but i think he also lost a lot of game when he hurt his knee. He kind of fell apart since then, lacks deep speed. If he comes in cheap he could compete with one of our corners for the starting job but he's not really a big upgrade over Walker.

Crappsburgh has had average corners for years and they do alright; pressure can make a HUGE difference when it comes to a secondary's effectiveness. Get me decent corners and then make damn sure they don't have to chase receivers all over the field by getting to the opposing teams' QB's!!

NMOC!

No More OLD Corners!!

Lions released Bodden today.

Considering he did aweful this past season he should come cheap. Everyone seems to forget that he did have 11 interception with the Clowns. I believe this would be something to consider!?!?!

Bodden was a pretty good CB when he was in Cleveland but could barely crack the starting lineup in Detroit; I'm not sure if he just had an awful year, didn't fit their scheme, had an attitude, really sucks or what. I remember when we traded him last year for Rogers and thinking how bad this could be but it turns out that's about the only real great thing we did last year.

I think he could still be a decent CB but hard to say if he could ever be a #2 CB or not IMO.

wow....people....27 is not old...as a matter of fact it beats 30+...which is C-MAC's age....Leigh Bodden is a good corner....prolly a lot cheaper than C-MAC and he can probably replace him. The idea here is to cut down on cap costs in order to pursue some of our LB's and maybe a free agent reciever....hey i heard this morning A. Boldin does not want to negotiate his contract with the Cards....this is great becuase i believe the ravens could maybe give them a 2nd Round pick for him (im not exactly sure what the would be asking)..heck even a first round pick would be worth considering....if he is to play in Baltimore....i believe having Mason, Boldin, Clayton, and Williams is one heck of a recieving corps... Also, this would allow for that first round pick to go to another position like a DE becuase i believe T. Pryce will be in the next 2 years if not sooner than that...or possibly another corner for depth....

If they can get Bodden for under $10 million, it would be a great move. I don't know whether he played poorly or a lack of pass-rush affected him in Detroit but I think he is still a good corner. Chad Johnson used to always say how good Bodden was and he was starting to gain some recognition in Cleveland.
