Good point but "last season" performance recently hasn't been a good predictor of next season.

What happens in the draft this year will make a huge difference. Also, remember that what these players do with or to themselves during the long off season can make all the difference in the world to a team's success. And nobody can predict what some of the guys might do. I mean one of your players might decide to get into an off-season motorcycle crash and get seriously injured, partially recover from that only to go on and miss the team's opening game because he needs an emergency appendectomy.

I guess my point is that when you're dealing with human beings, anything can happen, and that although predictions are fun, I wouldn't get bent out of shape because of them.

i'm not going 2 get bent out of shape....
i was wondering the factors being a "contender" was based on.

if "last season" ain't a good inicator....then are they basing it off of front offices? I think ozzie is one of the best at drafting in the league.

I don't get the obsession with the Falcons. Did Ray Lewis piss in the media's cornflakes or something? They played an incredibly easy schedule in turn Ryan didn't see many top defenses. They are not that good.

Not to worry. Media will "discover" the Ravens when we chew through the schedule. Oh by the way, the Ravens are ranked 28th next season on strength of schedule, the Squeelers 29th. The difference being Pittsburgh plays Miami, and Tennesee from the AFCS and the Ravens entertain New England and Indianapolis. It looks to be a good year for the AFCN, the Ravens and the Squeelers look to be again scrambling to represent the AFC in the SuperBowl.

Who cares what sports casters think of us. I just read the biggest joke of a mock draft off of MSN by a sports writer. They dont pick the right teams but who cares because the next week they get to pick teams to win again. Into the playoffs they pick winners and losers but they cant ever pick the right ones? I mean if ESPN had their way, It would have been Titans and Giants in the SB. They dont know jack squat. They get paid to make mistakes every week. Preseason rankings mean jack squat. And preseason rankings 2 days after the superbowl are even jack squatter! (if that is a word). There is a ton that will weigh into our potential. Namely who on the D returns and how healthy we are on week one. But even when the roster is set and the first kick off is in the air, no one can predict how its going to go. Who thought Miami would HOST a playoff game this year!? Heck, HONESTLY who here even thought the Ravens would make the playoffs? Most of Baltimore was hoping for a .500 season! It was great, but impossible to predict.

As for a comment I saw earlier, do not bad mouth Trent Dilfer. While he was not flashy, he was a game manager and did what about 274 other QB's we've had have been unable to do and that is make smart, conservative decisions, get a couple points and not turn over the ball. Everyone's saviour (except mine) Steve Mcnair couldn't even do that. So for a guy who was instrumental in us getting a ring and then was CUT for a continuous flow of crap at the QB position until this year, he deserves the respect of Baltimore and its fans. Thank you Trent!

Rankings are just educated guesses. Nothing more, there are far too many variables that can make or break a season for any team.
