I disagree, some rookies and players has greater impacts on their team even if they don't make the playoffs.
Of course you disagree, the falcons didn;t make the playoffs and the ravens did. Joe had great impact on the Ravens for most of the regular season - as well as the playoffs.

Welcome, newbie. Joe made more than little throws this season and post season. How about his running for a Td. How about the pass he caught from Smith. Don't underestimate the contributions he made to our team throughout the season and postseason.
I like how they're ignorant of Le'Ron McClain's journey from nondescript FB to leading rusher, and also act as if Joe Flacco's initial role as game manager wasn't valuable to the team.

I mean, as a rookie, Flacco could've thrown interceptions like crazy and forced the defense to do all the work. Instead, he played within the bounds of which he was asked, and only occasionally put the game on his arm. He kept the defense rested with conversions for first downs, and he gradually got to the point where he was comfortable with his arm to attempt the deep ball (albeit, not as effectively as we would've liked.)

Basically, Flacco did everything the team asked of him and more. And that's not good enough for people outside of Baltimore, since they expect a starting QB to be flashy and win games with his arm. Why can't QBs (especially young QBs) just win games by playing smart? It's ridiculous.
We don't need to defend Flacco, we know his worth to the team. I just find it outrageous that these people from all over the country think that they know who won games for us.

Due to the fact that all football games are played on the same day, and football cannot be evaluated effectively by statistics, I don't try to pass judgment on other teams. I'm not going to make a post outlining how crucial Michael Turner/Roddy White were to Matt Ryan's development because I don't watch Atlanta games, and statistics do not tell the whole story. Period. I guess stupid posts on the internet are to be expected, but it's still irritating.

I think Joe Flacco was the difference in this team being 8-8 and being 11-5 and going to the AFC championship game. Troy Smith couldve come in, managed games, not lost them, and the defense wouldve done their part. However, troy smith wouldnt have provided the deep threat that Flacco provides nor the consistency in the passing game, which is what i think the difference was in our team winning this season compared to previous ones. He also did what he did with limited help in the running game/wide recievers. He did only have 2 WR to throw too. He couldnt spread the field. Also incredibly young offensive line (who gelled along with the rest of the offense). While i agree, he wasnt the only reason we were successful, i dont think we would have been as successful without him, which is why i think hes the RoY.

You are right, Turner and White were crucial to Matt's development, just as your defense and McClain and the rest of your running game was to Joe's development. Neither Matt or Joe has done the things they have done without the help of their team.

Don't get me wrong but I love our Raven,Joe has been an unexpected pleasure with that said he needs time to grow.Hopefully this season he will have more tools to work with and improve in picking up open men and blitzes. This year should be better for him and us as fans , this should be the year to see if he can really run this team and not manage it .

I stopped caring about the AP polls when Smith won coach of the year. Are you kidding me? Sparano should have been the clear cut winner, and I know I'm prejudiced, but I think Harbs should have edged out Smith. ok, Smith had the whole "Vick" situation, which, although horrific morally, I really don't see as being that difficult to overcome. He turned the team around, but so did Harbs, and Harbs had a much tougher process to go through. He took a team of vets led by the defense that had turned into a group of solo acts that were treated like Kings by Billick and laid down the law and won them all over. Harbs completely turned around the franchise. IMO, Sparano, Harbs, then Smith. AP poll was a joke.

and as far as waiting for the postseason to make the award decisions, I'm all for it. It's called ______ of the YEAR, not ____ of the SEASON. Furthermore, just because they wait until after the postseason or announce on SB media day, that doesn't mean they have to choose players who made the playoffs. They should be able to draw from insights starting all the way back at the OTA's all the way into the playoffs. But in the end, we all know none of this matters as the AP polls will always just be another popularity contest.

No if Smith didn't get it Sporano should have. I think it would be easier to turn around vets than have a 11-5 record than do it with a bunch of rookies starting and having over half your roster redone.

Ravens QB Flacco voted Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year

Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco is the 2008 Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year, Diet Pepsi and the National Football League announced Thursday.

As the Ravens' first round draft choice in 2008, Flacco propelled Baltimore's air attack, passing for 2,971 yards, completing 257 of 428 attempts and scoring 16 total touchdowns (14 passing, two rushing). In the season's final 11 games, Flacco guided the Ravens to a 9-2 record and a playoff berth, registering a 90.2 QB rating, throwing for 2,127 yards and 13 touchdowns. Flacco threw at least one TD in eight straight games between Oct. 19 and Dec. 7, tying Joe Namath (1965) and Babe Parilli (1952) for the third-longest streak ever among rookie QBs. Flacco tossed at least one TD pass in each of the Ravens' last six road games, totaling nine TDs and a 101.8 passer rating. Flacco, who attended the University of Delaware, was nominated for 10 Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week awards, winning twice.

Flacco deserved to win the award hands down, after the season he has had, after a slight rough start, he seemed to adjust accordingly and understand his responsibility as quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens, and (for the most part) take care of the football more so than not. We had enough trust in him that Cameron was able to give him a little more of the playbook (seemingly) with each passing week and Flacco seemed to do the job just fine. Those Losses we suffered and the mistakes Flacco made during those times, can only benefit him in the future, those 3 contests with the steelers, though the steelers won, flacco gained valuable experience that he will certainly use agains them as time goes on and as he goes about his business.

Im Happy to say that i am one to say...... Im Wacko For Flacco

This award is more realistic than the one given out a month ago because this includes post season performance, as any award should.

It's like an accolade, except it's a flaccolade. It's a pet name for all the recognition/awards that Flacco has won.
