According to that same link, I see Vic Fangio was also promoted to Assistant Head Coach as well as Linebackers coach.

Good, Coach Harbaugh needs all the active eyes and ears he can get to continue to help him out. I just hope that Fangio, even in his new capacity, remains upstairs in the booth to help out with replays and challenges, since he's done a great job this season with that. Granted, there were still a couple of calls that could've been challenged, but otherwise, he helped Coach Harbaugh throw the red flag at most of the right times.

Great find, thanks for sharing. I'm indifferent as Mattison has been a great coach, but may be a bit green to the NFL.

Hopefully we can use a more flat out "I'm blitzing here, stop me" attitude now lol! All the disguising sometimes slowed down getting to the QB.

I chose not to comment on that particular hiring itself since I don't know what Mattison brings to the table, other than helping to develop Jarvis Moss into a first-round draft choice during his time with the Florida Gators.

I haven't done my homework on Mattison yet, so it wouldn't be fair to make any real judgment on someone whose resum

What do you mean green to Nfl Ravnet?
Well, the guy is nearly sixty years old, and he has spent much of his life coaching, but this is his very first year in the NFL. Obviously Mattison has a wealth of overall football knowledge, but I'm just hoping that he can adapt to our schemes instead of our schemes having to adapt to him.

I agree. I had no idea about his age or number of years coaching, though. But that aside, the NFL is an entirely different beast, and from what I remember reading about him, most of his career has been spent in college football. Even though he's had a year in the NFL now, moving up from defensive assistant to a coordinator position is a pretty big leap because you essentially run the show on that side of the ball and the only person you have to defer to is the head coach.

With that said, as long as the players respect him, everything should be alright. I'm just hoping that he doesn't do something as simple as recycle Rex Ryan's old plays; not only would that give Ryan a distinct, strategic advantage for when his Jets play the Ravens in the future, but it'd also give other teams plenty of game film to work with (as opposed to the relatively-clean slate of brand-new plays within a familiar scheme.)

Mattison was Florida's defensive coordinator during their first championship run. I remember Meyer doing everything possible to keep him in Gainesville.

good call, exactly who i wanted to see get the nod. now we have an old school guy at DC, who is old enough that we won't have to worry about him leaving anytime soon for a head coaching spot!

As long as Ray Lewis is here to coach coach Mattison then we should be fine. After all this is Ray Lewis's defense. In fact he's probably the guy that promoted Mattison in the 1st place.

All joking aside I think Mattison is going to be a great Coordinator in this league.

yes he will. He turned thast Florida D into some Monsters when they beat Ohio State holding them to just 14 points when they were the underdogs coming into the game. Who was the QB for the Buckeyes? None other than our beloved Troy Smith lol

the only thing that worries me a little is that hes only been with the team for 1 year. so hopefully the players ae comfortable with him and respond to him as well as they did with ryan. well see what happens.

I knew Harbs would go with Greg as soon as he said the decision would be made "IN HOUSE", I think it's a smart one. We dont need anymore change in Baltimore.

Of course! But He understands what worked in Baltimore with Rex. I don't think we'll see to many drastic changes.
seems like a good hire to me. I guess time will tell.
Time will tell. The only way Mattison will fail as a D-Coordinator, is if Ray Lewis leaves. If Ray Lewis sticks around for Mattison's tenure here, then Mattison will be a another successful D-coordinator from our system. Another notch in a great line of great D-Coordinators.

All these guys: Nolan, M. Lewis, Jack Del Rio, Rex Ryan, Singletary should be sending royalty checks to Ray Lewis on a monthly basis. Because he launched their coaching careers.

I agree, as long as Ray is in the locker room and on the feild inspiring our players to play their best all will be well with the Ravens D

Are you kidding? I really wanted to see a guy that's been on the team for more than a year. i.e Mark Carrier, but lets wait and see.

According to the latest report I read, Vic Fangio will NOT be named assistant head coach but WILL take on duties as linebackers coach, as ESPN initially reported last night.

Rather, Jerry Rosburg will be given the title of assistant head coach, in addition to his current capacity as special teams coordinator.

Not sure if I agree with Rosburg as the assistant head coach, since I thought Fangio was more qualified. But we'll see.

My only question is, now that Fangio will likely be on the sidelines in his new job, who will replace him as the man upstairs in the booth who helps Coach Harbaugh with challenges and replays?
