#1 D

Rhys Lloyd?

I dont know about anybody else, but doesn't rhys lloyd seem too powerful of a kicker to be on the bubble? Ive heard it on baltimoresun.com that hes on the bubble. I mean, matt stover's leg is wearing out and hes more for field goals and xtra points and in this offseason counting training camps and preseason games, ive seen that on average his kickoffs take it to only the 5- or 10-yard line whereas lloyd on the other hand has kicked off and atleast 6 out of 7 have gone to the end zone, and 2 of them have been touchbacks. thoughts?

probably because he came into Training Camp on the Very last day. is why he's on the bubble, despite his performance's in games....though i think he'll make it

The reason why is he is Kicker....takes up a roster spot.....yeah 10-15 yds could mean the game, but our D is usually good enough to stop them. This is rhys's second year trying out for the Ravens, didnt make it last, probably wont make it this year. Like most teams they want 2 kickers on a team, a punter and a fieldgoal/kick off guy. Not 3.

Rhys was an undrafted free agent in 2005 when the ravens signed him then cut him before the season, The Packers picked him up on April 2006 and released in may 2006, and now he is trying out for the ravens again. So 32 teams have passed on him a few times.

Can kick long field goals and long kickoffs. Any chance he ends up taking Stover's spot. That thought scares me, but somebody is going to beat Stover out someday. Matt isn't getting any younger (or cheaper).

We'll keep Matt until he retires, I just can't see us letting him go until he absolutely falls apart.

Yeah, I will be sad when Matt goes, but Lloyd has a lot of potential.

exactly. thats why we keep Lloyd AND Stover, so we have THE FOOT for the rest of his superb hall-of-fame kicking career and then for kickoffs and extraordinary circumstances we have......... THE BOOT!

;)

yep, plus if we keep both Kickers, there's a strong chance that Lloyd's leg will be Fresh enough to Make those 55-60 yarders that WILL BE NEEDED in some circumstances.....since often times Games are brought down to the wire, to a Last second Field goal to win it all.....we'll need a Healthy Strong, Powerful leg to boot it through the uprights

Unfortunate our strongest offense will probably be our Defense and kicker.

Until we can prove our Offense elite we need guaranteed 53 yard field goals.

As for KOS, reserve Matt Stovers leg because we need to treat him like a trophy.

This guy is an excellent pickup because now we can use him on kickoffs so teams aren't always on their own 30 and 40 after kickoffs. And we all know that that 55 yarder touched the net, like right down the center, if Matt Stover teaches him some things and helps him we might have a Matt Stover v2 here.

Troy, Gaither, Burgess and Antwan Barnes.....just to name a few

I'm glad Lloyd made the cut, as many have said he has a great leg. With Koch and the addition of Lloyd the Ravens should have a definate advantage in field position this season. His big leg will do wonders on kickoff coverage. Making teams like Cincy, SD, Indy and SD have a average starting field position of their 20 yardline will be huge. I don't think there are many offense that will be able to drive the ball 80 yards down field at will on this Ravens Defense.

Well in NFL EUROPA I know he missed as much as he made.. He isn't lets say someone to count on to come through every time on not real long field goals. I beleive he missed a lot of easy field goals in Europa but seems to make the hard ones confuses me. Think he missed a lot of 40 yarders and some 30 yarders.

Correction 16 of 23 field goals he made last year. And it seems like almost all the ones he missed were easy field goals....

Would be ok in my opinion to have him do kick offs. And go in for the long long field goal trys.

But leave matt to do the job for the field goals below the 50's. :)

Unless the field goal is 55+ yards, Stover will be taking every go ahead field goal. You just do not put in a player who barely made the team, and for good reason, ahead of a guy who was the most accurate kicker last year, and came from the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore. Lloyd's main use will be to kick a 50+ yard field goal at the end of the half instead of just a hail mary, and possible kick offs on a cold day (which I doubt),otherwise I don't see him being used much at all. Stover was near perfect last year, even if he drops off he is still better than 90% of the league, including Lloyd.

The Ravens biggest weakness is the big play. One pass can be 50 yards and then your in field goal range just like that. When a team is on the 10 yard line, the Rex Ryan defense is blitzing every down and is vulnerable to the break out pass or run. On the other hand, when they begin at the 40 yard line because of a botched kick or bad coverage, the offense plays more conservative just trying to get into field goal range, and the D shuts them down. However, the Ravens start with bad field position, and as a result this is what most of the Ravens games are, field position battles.
