With Rex and Pettine already gone, losing Kokinis and Jackson would just be rubbing salt into the wound. Jackson was pivotal in Flacco's success this season, and it'd be pretty lame if we lost the guy while Joe is entering a crucial sophomore year. I'd probably be fine with him departing after the 2009/2010 season, but Joe needs good, consistent coaching for at least one more season.

Maybe it was just Boller, but Billick, Neuheisel, and Fassel, three big names, were not able to mentor their quarterback effectively, and Jackson has done pretty well in his first year with Joe.

Apparently San Francisco also met with Dan Reeves, which might be good news for Ravens fans as Reeves has had a more successful coaching career than Jackson.

Jackson may be the biggest blow. We've replaced front office guys before, Ray is the real LB coach, and Ryan is probably expendable as well. However, Jackson/Cam together were instrumental in Flacco's development, and I want there to be continuity for the Joe.

Look at Jason Campbell; that guy has had to deal with tons of different offenses/playbooks/schemes/coaches/coordinators, and the end result is a guy who has always been pretty average but never able to truly break out.

It must be pretty helpless for Ozzie/Steve as we can't really offer any of these guys higher positions, and therefore are unable to keep them. It's not like a player where you can simply offer him more money and/or lock him up in a contract. I mean, are we going to give Kokinis Ozzie's job? Promote Jackson to OC? Displace Rex in favor of Pettine? We're at the mercy of these other teams.

This is the only downfall of having such a great organization from top to bottom. Teams out there target these guys because they get the job done and are smart to do so. Don't worry too much because we always bring someone else in that does just as good or better.

I just wish them all the best. There are many reasons to want them to stay but you never know when their services will turn-up on the 'we don't need them anymore' list. they're just looking out for their careers and their families, as we do.

Hue Jackson IS the biggest loss to the Ravens, if he were to accept the 49ers OC job.

Even though Rex Ryan was great, it's not as if there hadn't been a dominant defense before Ryan was promoted to the DC position. As long as the system remains in place (or improved in areas where there were deficiencies), then the defensive side of the ball will be fine.

And the potential loss of George Kokinis to the Browns or any other team wouldn't be as bad, because the success personnel staff revolves mainly around Ozzie Newsome and Eric DeCosta. Kokinis simply handles contracts, and has little to do (if anything) in the way of scouting or drafting. He simply evaluates the free agent market, which overlaps somewhat with the college scouting department anyway since the Ravens are likely to have files on players they previously coveted coming out of college. Simply put, Kokinis can be replaced.

Hue Jackson, however, is integral to Joe Flacco's continued development, as Ravnet pointed out. Consistency is key with any young QB, and Jackson worked wonders with Flacco this season. Cam Cameron may have called the plays, but Jackson developed the man whose team's success hinges on how he handles (or mishandles) the ball. Jackson is a great coach, and I'll wish him luck if he moves on. But I'd really like for him to stay at least one more season, just to make sure Flacco doesn't crash into a sophomore slump.

It'll be interesting to see if Ozzie deserves all of this credit for plugging in players once Ray retires. I wouldn't be shocked if we see the end of our time as a dominant defense when Ray leaves.

They're all under contract and can't go unless they get a HC position or the front office's blessing.

As long as it's not a lateral move, moving from one team to another yet holding the same position, then the front office won't stop a coach from taking an upgrade.

I agree that watching our team be picked apart is somewhat frustrating. There are a lot of unanswered questions up in the air. However, as long as Ozzie is making the tough personnel decisions I have a lot of faith that our team will continue to achieve.

Chris Mortensen is reporting that Dan Reeves is very close to signing with the Cowboys as a "consultant." This is bad news as Hue Jackson may now become the prime candidate for the San Francisco OC job. If Jackson is to leave, I'll start getting worried.

Apparently it's now down to two guys in San Francisco: Hue Jackson, and Jeff Jagodzinski, the BC coach who was fired after being warned not to interview with an NFL team.

As a side note, Jackson is rumored to have a decent shot at getting the Bengals OC job.

Man, this really isn't looking good.

Wait? This would make Jackson not be the prime candidate? Since Reeves now is the main candidate, and then joined the Cowboys, wouldnt this make Jackson the main candidate?

Whoops, I meant that this would now make him the prime candidate. Thanks for picking that up.

Your welcome, and yes this is not very good news. Who even has the potential to take over as QB coach if Jackson leaves?

If I had to guess right now, I'd say that Ozzie may bring in someone from outside of the organization. As I've mentioned above, the FO has brought in some pretty big names to mentor our QB's over the years in Fassel, Jackson, Neuheisel, Cameron, and Billick, and most haven't turned out too well. I may be underestimating the Flacco effect, but none of those coaches had an real impact on Boller.

Yeah, but key word here is "Boller" - not Flacco, I think he'll be ok regardless of who coaches him!
