Bart is a far greater part of this defense. He is much more versatile, a better hitter, a better influence for our undrafted rookies etc etc.

FWIW, I've seen Ray MISS more then Bart, but Suggs seems to be the best tackler on our team. I hope we can keep Bart, but if he has to go...So be it.

I'm going to have to scroll down the thread abit next time, to make sure it ISN'T a preston "article" link. I have been Preston free for over 2 years and lovin it. I think the only teams that would really want bart would be Cinci or believeland. Rex could also make bid for him, and get him out of the division.

I think Rex would definitely try to get any ex-raven defender like Bart, Jimmy/Dawan, Cmac/Rolle(if either were to be released) or even ray or sizzle god forbid they leave. If any defenders leave I would say that the most likely destination would be with the jets.

If Bart decides to go, let him go. We have plenty of guys that will have a chance to step up and take his place.
BARNES, McCLAIN, GOODEN...

Anyway, we need the cap space, and I am not saying he isn't a good LB, because he is. BUT, We will be fine with out him.

Ray, Brown, and Sizzle are the higher priorites.

Best of luck Bart if your not with us next year.

We should use the money we were going to spend on Bart to get get us a dang receiver who can get open AND catch, both on the same play
let bart go who cares we need to focus on sizzle n ray thats all with out them there is no bart . He is good but not that good i rather have the them 2 any day we can replace scott just like we did adalius thomas
I care. Who did we replace AD with again? .....waiting. Nobody, that's who. We are going to end up losing a TRUE Raven..and even with his alleged problems with Harbaugh..he still wants to retire a Raven. Wish I had some moolah for him.

I bet the Browns would make a move for him. They may have D'Qwell Jackson but those guys swarm on our practice squad, front office personnel, and free agents every chance they get.

The Browns' entire drafting and coaching philosophy is just being the Ravens' Dracula.

ugh. I thought this had stopped.
Barnes cannot play the position that Scott can play. Scott can play any position among the linebackers, but is best suited inside, which is where he plays here.
Barnes can't play inside, he's a pass rusher all the way. He's closer to a defensive end than Bart's position .
McClain is a OLB/DE hybrid aswell, he appears to have some of the tools to play inside, but he would be more effective if he stays outside.
And Gooden has shown us nothing at all. I don't undertand how people assume third round draftees who don't play a snap in their rookie years are going to quality starters on an excellent defense in their sophmore year. It's not even like the coaches have been raving about him.

Linebacker does not necessarily equal linebacker.

Absplutely untrue. Barnes, McCune, McCline, and Edgar Jones have have exceled at all LB positions positions last season. Perhaps you were confused because you only saw them in Rex Ryan's situational packages and not as starters. The bottom line on this matter is the Ravens have a glut of young talent at LB at 1/3 of Scott's contract and 2X the upside. I love Bart Scott, his career is that of a true Raven. A guy who, like A.D. came out of nowhere and through hard work and desire became an intricate part of a great defense. But businesss is business, and it'd time for Scott to cash in. I wish nothing but the very best for him and no matter where he lands, I'll always remain a huge fan.

Scott to test waters
Unless the Ravens offer inside linebacker Bart Scott a contract that blows him out of the water - and they won't - he'll test the free-agent market. Scott had a good year and is one of the team's leaders on defense, but he is no big fan of Harbaugh's and his tough-guy approach. Look for Scott to see whether he can make big money elsewhere, and he probably can. If not, he might end up back in Baltimore, and the Ravens would welcome him because he fits perfectly into their scheme.
I hope he returns as well.

Football business in the off season is more stressful with all these free agents then the seasons by far!!

I realize this is how they earn their income over what is perhaps a short career period, but I wish it wasn't so....top dollar orientanted...more team loyality...I guess the door would also have to swing both ways, in favor of the players as well by the franchises.
Bart Scotts gotta do, what Bart Scott gotta do. This is a business, and business is a two-way street.

He says it isn't about the money, that it is about Harbaugh. It's hard for me not to believe, that its not about the money. Which is okay in my book. I'd do the same thing. You know some team is going to give him a contract for way more than what he's worth.

We will get a chance to see if Scott was really a product of our system, or if he is really a great LB.
Yeah, I hope the best for Bart, but I can't help thinking about Ed Hartwell, Jamie Sharper, and others who have all flourished in our system, gotten big money elsewhere, and didn't perform close to expectations.

Yeah, Bart needs to get paid, whether it's by us or elsewhere. He's earned it.
And don't forget about JJ. If we go back to a 4-3 when Gregg returns, Ray, Sizzle and JJ will be just fine and dandy at LB.
I'm sure at least one of the other three LB'ers can step up if needed, too.

You just named two outside linebackers and a guy who hasnt taken a snap as potential replacements for a pro bowler, and you sound happy about it. I dont understand how nobody on this board gets that OLB and ILB are two entirely different positions. Barnes and McClain are far too small to play ILB. ILB have to take on offensive lineman/fullbacks every play. I dont trust gooden to A.) stay healthy or B.) be half of Bart Scott. Bart Scott is indeed a high priority, and we need him back or i promise you there will be a signifigant drop in our rushing defense and pass rush.

I seriously don't think that brown is higher priority then Bart...We have Yanda, Terry, Gaithers, Chesters we can easily fufill the vacancy if he leaves....Bart is a stand out guy and has a mouth and backs it up.....He will be dearly be missed....

I don't want to see Bart go but he isn't as important to the team's future as Suggs and Jason Brown. Even if the team wants to keep him, I think a few teams will throw a ton of money at him. The Jets will probably be one.
i hope the ravens make him a decent offer he wants to retire a raven he has said it a billion times
Actions, like testing the free agent market, speak louder than word. I want to keep him too, but money is money and they'll calculate the risk and offer him what he is worth according to this team's cap. If another team has more cap room... well, I wish him luck.

I love me some Bart too, but Brown is a much bigger priority, imo...losing Brown would hurt our offense more than Bart on D.

Whatever happens happens i suppose, this front office has made it this far with an outstanding track record and we will have to just sit back and play it out. Either way i do honestly beleive Bart Scott has done what it takes and should retire a raven. We shall see

The Browns made him an offer last time his contract was up and he opted to stay here.
