Tom Brady And His Return To The Nfl

27 posts in this topic

Do you think he'll have a swift easy return to the NFL? Or do you think he'll struggle getting back into the hang of things? He still hasen't provided a time table for his recovery and nobody has said if he'll be in traning camp.

His arm probably will still be as good as it was before the injury, but his knee will definitely have an adverse effect on his mobility. Even though Brady wasn't the most mobile QB, there were times where his improvisation came in handy when the pocket collapsed.

That's not to say that his knee will take a lot away from his game, but it will definitely affect him when he faces teams that like to put pressure on the QB -- such as our Baltimore Ravens, when we play the Patriots next season. :)

Brady was never mobile to begin with so it shouldn't be too much of a factor unless he can't plant or something. Remember, Dan Marino played most of the 2nd half of his career with braces on both knees.

Im kinda hoping he comes back and has a semi-crappy season and they miss the playoffs again.

Even though I don't see that happening. <_<
Tom is an Elite QB, I see him shaking off his rust in TC and he will be in mid season form by Week 1
I don't know about week 1, I'd say he'll be back to "old Tom" by week 6 or so.

I 100% don't see them replacing Tom with Cassell, They placed the franchise on Matt this year. He'll get a starting job somewhere in the 2010 season. The Pats invested 60mil in TB, he'll most likley retire in NE.

I know the Patriots are the Patriots and they have earned the right not to be questioned about their personnel decisions by random forum contributers, but why the hell would you put a Franchise Tag on your backup quarterback?
If you think Tom Brady will be good to go then let him hit the FA, if you think he won't then trade him. You can't afford to invest so much cap into one position where they can't be on the field at the same time.

They haven't officially placed the franchise tag on Matt Cassel yet; they're still deliberating, and have roughly two weeks to come to a final decision.

I don't see them replacing Tom Brady with Matt Cassel, neither. Other than for financial reasons, Belichick will probably assume he can find another QB down the line -- and he probably will, too. He's a great talent evaluator, so if he thinks he can do without Cassel and can find their next franchise QB later, then I'm inclined to believe him.

I have to respect the man...for just being so damn good. It's refreshing to see such exceptional players like him in this league even if they are on other teams. I hope he makes a good come back as the old Tom Brady. If only because I want a rematch from that last game we had....

I respect tom brady, but that don't mean i like him. i hope he gets healthy, but i also hope it will be a challange for him to play with a year-long absence of practicing real football.

I think Tom will play well, so they will trade Matt Cassel, but the week after Tom has a season ending injury.
and Wherever Matt will go to, he will have a monster season

I think Tom Brady will have an average year, according to his standards though. Which is still one of the top ten QB's but he's not going to be TD happy with 40+ TD's.

I agree. It's a tough injury to just "brush off" and he still hasen't has a full recovery yet.

Cassel will not have a monster season because Matt Cassel is not a very good quarterback. The only way Cassel has good stats next year is if the Pats offload Brady (stupidly) and Cassel is allowed to prosper in that system for another year.

I heard on ESPN the other day that when the Steerlers took out Carson Palmer's knee, it was much worse. It also happened during the playoffs, so Carson had much less time to recover, yet was still ready for training camp or preseason.

So...Tom should be allright.

considering hes not a out of the pocket runner......i think the knee will be fine and as for his arm, it will be very healthy, he had a year off

im gonna disagree with you. Cassel is a good qb, if you think about it, he is in the same boat as tom brady was. Brady was a back up for bledsoe,,,,,he got injured rest is history. Brady was never anything special until then...same as cassel, he just needs a chance to blow up, im not saying he could go to another team and do amazing because i really dont think he could. Brady (and cassel) is a product of a great offense and coach.....come one, hes got welker and moss to throw to, any qb could make big throws in a game with those weapons

Brady will be fine, I mean I read a report he will be ready by Opening Day 2009. So that means more than anything Cassel will be franchised. Teams playing NE better hope its early because if its early in the season Brady won't be himself, but if a team gets them down the strecth (like I think will happen to the Ravens) than watch out because Brady will slinging that ball around and destroying defenses. If anything Brady will be like Manning, struggle early and pick up the momentum late to carry the team back into the post season.

That's my point. A team shouldn't think they're getting a great or even good quality starting QB because Cassel isn't that guy, he's just been made to look good by his team,

i hope he'll be okay! and i think he will. i hope the pats go far again this season.
but they should franchise or contract cassel just in case, it wouldnt hurt.
their other backup, kevin o'connell (? me if im wrong) is not too bad. but the pats are a team that really depends on their QB for wins.
