Landry V Leonhard (merged Threads)

I'm in love with Leonard. Landry is going to be the pricier option to keep, but he's a more established player. However Leonard stepped up big this year, and what can't the guy do? Landry has limited speed, Leonard has no limits apart from size. I say we let Landry go to free up cap space and make Leonard the starting safety next to Reed.

i doubt landry will be too pricey. he was a 5th round pick and only played 2 full seasons. i say we keep landry i think hes better and he shouldnt lose his job to injury he was playing great.

if it doesnt impact our cap situation that much then sure keep both, but i love leonard and want to see plenty of him next season. i also dont want anything keeping us from signing the talent we need on offense and at cb

Landry is still on his rookie contract; of course we'll keep him. Leonhard may cost us a few dollars, but I think we can swing it.

Amen to that! Not to mention Landry was really coming into his own before he got hurt. Try to keep both, Leonard shouldn't be all to costly, and if we have to only keep one it should be Landry as he is still under contract and IMO has more upside, and yes size makes a difference.

Both if possible, but I say Leonhard. He has definitely shown that he's worth keeping around. Coming in to make a tackle/sack, the couple of PRs this year, the pick against Miami. He's shown he can do it all.

i think people are jumping the gun on leonard. landry is by far the better safety. he is the better tackler, he's better at stopping the run and better in coverage. i'm not saying that leonard didn't come up big for us in a lot of games this year, but i've also seen where he's cost us on missed tackles and blown coverage. there were times when he made into the backfield and just stood there like he didn't know what to do and the rushers just blew past him. i think we try to keep both but landry is the better safety.

I'd be shocked if both weren't on the roster next season. Landry is a restricted free agent and Leonhard won't cost much to keep around for a few years. Its easily possible to have both on this team next season and not really make an impact on our cap.

Id say we keep both as well. Neither will be too expensive to keep and both have shown they can play good football.

When it comes down to it though Landry is the better player in most all regards (tackling, playing the run, coverage, man on man w/ Tight End, blitzing, etc.) Leonard does have a great motor and seems to be in on every play but Landry was the same way. Plus I think Landry would've been able to finish alot of the plays Leonard couldn't. Also, I would be worried when Leonard had to cover a big TE, it just wasn't a good matchup for us.

I am by no means trying to knock Leonard and believe he definately has earned a spot on our roster and he can fill in a bunch of different positions if needed. (FS/SS, Nickelback/Dimeback, PR)

um for those who would kepp leonhard over landry are crazy
landry is one of the best strong safties in the NFL, if a WR or RB gets to him thet go down, he is a like a linebacker out there, he got great size, strength, vision and tackling, sure hes not fast but he doesnt need to be as hes got a good burst and makes the tackles head on, Sure Leonhard did well but Landry is way better and three times the safety Jim is, i know Jim got hype because of this year bu Dawan is IMO tin the top 3 of SS in the league

Landry is like a linebacker in the backfield with mad coverage skills. He's better then Leonhard in every aspect except kick returns. He's one of the most underrated safeties in the NFL, yup I said it. He also is the perfect compliment to Ed Reed and makes the tackles before they get to Reed. He would DEFINITELY have helped us out against Brandon Jacobs, not problem. That game showed how much we really did miss him, do you really think Leonhard could take on those big backs?

Bring back Landry..

#1 Dawan Landry fan right here ;)

Don't get me wrong. I like Leonhard and it was great how he stepped up this year but I think Landry is better all around. Do people forget how good he was playing before he got hurt? BTW, how are you going to be such a big Leonhard fan and spell his name wrong?
I agree. Landry is a beast, but as I've said before he might not be the same.
That's what back-ups are for. Just like Leonhard did. Next man up.

Landry was really becoming a dominant player at his position. You can't say the same about Leonhard. Don't get me wrong I love Leonhard, and I hope he is resigned as he can be used in several ways by the team. However, Landry has great size, and area in which Leonard lacks. Landry is hands down better in run coverage, and better in pass defense. I'd like to see Leonhard resigned to be used as a returner as well in pass downs.
i wouldnt be surprised if rex tries to lure leonhard to the jets they need a SS.
Yeah I expect Leonhard to be a Jet next year. Nothing the Ravens can do about it as the Jets will most likely be able to offer a bigger contract, name him as starter, and Rex is the one who ended up picking him from those who worked out. He may be loyal to Rex over the Ravens. I hope not as I'd like to see a rotation of Landry and Leonhard, not to mention Jim returning punts.

I'd be so mad if Rex tries to pilfer our players with big payday offers.

I would sign Leonhard purely for his returner/special teams ability.

Landry, but id also love for us to find a way to keep Leonard.

Release Figurs... let Leonard do the returns atleast and step in for safety when needed.

Like I said before, you keep both. If Landry comes back healthy, then you can make Leonhard the full time nickel back in place of Corey Ivy.

Quite frankly, I think I take the opposite approach. Leonhard has EARNED the right to play here. You Landy lovers need to understand that Leonhard was a vital aspect of the defensive scheme this year. Players, coaches and the talking heads all agree. Earlier in the season the argument (on these very same boards) was that Leonhard lacked big play ability...proved wrong. The poor tackler argument is way out in left field, and he can cover with the best of them. I like Landry as well, but to snub a guy that has meant so much to the team is just wrong. I say we rehash this argument once all the free agent signings/draft and first couple of pre-season games are over. None of us has any clue what will happen personnel wise yet.

I'd love to keep both, but I'd imagine that Jimmy would be the cheaper option. If it came down to choosing for me theres no doubt that Leohnard should be a starting saftey. He was the team's best punt returner, averaging 11.6 yards, nearly twice Figurs. He returned kickoffs on occasion (averaging 20.4yards). And when the need arose as it did in the AFC title game, when the Ravens were short on cornerbacks Leonhard played nickel back, too. He made a career-high 85tackles and played well in the playoffs (one interception, half a sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and 16tackles). I think those numbers speak for themselves. I would hate to see him leave and join Ryan in NY. Jim is one of my favorite football players. It would make me sick to see him leave.
