How Long Before The Bitterness Goes Away?

48 posts in this topic

I like hanging out here but since Sunday this place has been way bitter.

I am going to leave and let it all settle down.
Come back when it is nothing but Ravens fans having civil productive dialog.

How long do you think that will take?

I'm usually able to let go of losses pretty quickly; usually takes no longer than a day, on average, sometimes less.

But, with this one, it's already been two days, and I'm still pissed. I have yet to sit down and even watch replays of the whole game yet. So, I get the feeling it'll be a while before I can even get back to being productive on here.
I haven't been bitter about losing a game since the 2006 playoff loss to indy. Don't know why
Funny thing is, with that loss, I wasn't that bitter. I had no ill will against Indy after the game, and I was legitimately happy when they beat the Bears to win the Super Bowl (especially since I hate the Bears).

I guess it helped at the time that I had never experienced the Ravens in the playoffs before, though. I wasn't a fan until the 2003 season, but I didn't really CARE until 2004. By then, the Ravens were already one-and-done in the playoffs in '03, and I was largely indifferent because I was still learning the game.

I'm not bitter this past season was a blast, we were playing with house money. The worst part for me was the derogatory post here by opposing fans and having to deal with that. I'm not a smack talker so I don't really understand it.

I accepted the lost and moved on. I am bitter/sad about not having Sunday Funday's watching football and all with my friends. And i was fortunate enough to go to all home games and both Miami and Dallas. Those times were great and i am sad that it is over for now. And i am very bitter about not going to Tampa next weekend so Go Cards so we dont have to hear that 6 rings BS till we win 7.

The loss in 2006 was still worse than this one IMO. IMO that was still our best shot at making the superbowl. I really didn't feel we were going to beat Pittsburgh anyway. I was hoping but in the back of my mind, I knew the cards were really stacked against us.

I knew the offense was going to have to change its gameplan more than it wanted to if we were going to beat the Steelers. Usually that is a formula for disaster.

I hope the Cards win but if the Steelers win, so what. They already have 5 Lombardi's, whats another one at this point?

The Ravens have only been in town for 12 years and we already have a championship. The Steelers have been around for 75 years and have 5.

I think the Ravens are doing just fine. It won't be our last, thats for sure! Our future is bright because the people running the show know football! And know how to evaluate football talent. I'm excited to think about whats in store for this team!

It could be worse, a lot worse!! There are fans of other teams out there who would die to have a Lombardi trophy in their city.

I don't feel like crying when I see anything from that game; I feel like getting violent and wanna start throwing things, and I start to develop a case of Tourette's as my breathing gets faster and my fists clench tighter and tighter into a fist, ready to punch anyone in the room that says something wrong in the next instance.

The anger gets you nowhere--we got 3 bonus games this year and its only 6 months until the first pre-season game. The Colts game 2 years ago consumed me in a way that is not healthy and I promised myself and family it would not happen again. I'm more sad its still winter and no football, guess that means I have to do all the crap in the house I've been putting off--like painting.

Thats the way Im looking at it...I haven't really figured out how Im going to spend my Sundays for the next couple months lol...but how can we really be that upset when we made it to Championship game with our rookie coach and qb? Think about how great next year and the year after can be if we did all this in our first year with these two as our leaders? It does suck that the loss had to come from Pittsburgh of all teams but I think it just gives us more drive for next year to prove we can be the best the AFC has to offer.

Which divisions do we get next? NFC South? AFC East?

It hurts as long as you maintain an emotional investment in the loss and that emotional investment is the primary factor in your thoughts about the Ravens. You will decide when to move on, and whether or not you're ready. How long that takes is up to you.

I recommend volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and smashing nails into wood while imagining the nails are Hines Ward and the hammer is Ray. You get free therapy and someone gets a free house. Perfect!

The Ravens' new flash video on BR.com almost instantly made me let go of a lot of the bitterness.

The music from The Dark Knight was a nice touch, and to look back at all the moments that made us smile, made me cry. Goosebumps the whole time.

I can't wait for next season.

Close, but opposite. We get the NFC North and AFC West. Not looking too far ahead, and not to demean the teams in those divisions, but it looks like there'll be another Ravens-Steelers, Round 3, if you know what I mean. ;)

Thats not exactly correct. Superbowl has not been around for 75 years. Its like Browns fans talking about their championships prior to the merger. its 5 in 42. and 1 in 12 for the ravens. Neither here nor there, just stating proper facts

I could get technical and say that football teams in this city have won other Superbowls and football championships. Hell, I could even say that this city's football team was part of what was considered one of the greatest games ever played.

But I'm just not going there. Everything before 1996 doesn't really matter for us because for some reason the NFL can't decide to put the records prior to 1984 where they rightfully belong. In Baltimore. And the funny thing is that I really don't think anyone in Indianapolis would even give a damn. Its the ownership that is holding the records hostage.

I know what you are saying but what I said wasn't incorrect. You have 5 Superbowl victories in the 75 year history of the Steelers. You can't say the Steelers have 5 Superbowl victories and 3 championships (prior to merger) because you didn't win any championship games. If you did, I would have stated that.

It all went away after 2 hours after we lost. I don't hold bitterness too long. It's hard for me to focus when I do. I just blocked it all out.

I totally agree.

I'm saddened by the loss, but mostly for the players. I wanted Ray to get another ring and I wanted the players I love and that gave us so much this year to win it all - to get to feel the euphoria of making it to the top.

I'm ecstatic that we had such a great season. I was excited all season. I spent the weeks looking forward to the games and how far the Ravens would go. And they went much further than we expected before the season started. And they made it fun to watch and to cheer for them.

I am certainly not bitter.

I also agree that that the worst part was the derogatory posts by opposing fans trying to start a fight or just coming here to spout off about how good their team is.
