[News] What Ravens' AFC North Foes Did In The Draft

43 posts in this topic

Pittsburgh added a pass rusher and another wide receiver in the first two rounds. The Bengals have a high-potential, but risky class. The Browns took Myles Garrett No. 1 overall and made two more intriguing first-round picks, but passed on quarterbacks early.

Crazy to think, Ronnie Stanley will be going head to head twice a year against the 1st overall DE. It will make both of them better to say the least. I expect some epic battles

I dont know how the Browns can be judged as coming away with a B, when they collected 3 of the first 29 players and all seem to likely be quality starters. If they had even a somewhat competent GM and had not blown picks like Manziel and Weeden, I think they would be poised to give us trouble soon, and may anyway. The Ravens are going to have to make up some ground.

Browns and Steelers had an A grade Draft.

Steelers didnt need a Wr and Rb but those 2 were built for AFC north.

Both those team addressed offense and defense.

we have absolutely nothing on offense that would strike fear into any defense until proven otherwise. players need to play hungry and step up and the off coaching staff needs to know how to utilize what they have

We have Joe Flacco that can strike fear in teams "BUT" the bad play calling kills us every time! Teams expect to see that arm but the run on 1st and 2nd pass on 3rd and punt makes it easy for teams to figure out and then they know when to blow up the O line and rattle Joe! WRs need to play decoy and get the ball to our arsenal of TEs like brady and big ben are doing! No secondary can cover our TEs down field! THEY 2 BIG!

Our defense is going to be so great this season. I just hope the coaches don't overwork our guys during pre-season. Because regular season is what counts, that's when accountability comes into place. Omg, with Suggs, J.Smith, Webb, and Mosley leading the pack, this defense is going to be exciting to watch. Along with Weddle. I expect M&T Bank to get back to the loud cheering 'DEFENSE!,DEFENSE!,DEFENSE!" Over the past two - three years, the chants have been fading, rightfully so...but now it looks like defense is back on the FO's priority list.

I'm so excited to see guys like Tim Williams and Chris Wormley light the field up. As well as Humphrey making our backfield that much more dangerous.

Ok, first things first...Flacco does not strike fear in any defense. If Flacco strikes fear in defense, then what do you call a guy like Rodgers or Brady doing to opposing defenses. I will say this, opposing defenses know Flacco is capable of throwing it deep, and that he can pull of a good drive here and there.

But the fact is, Flacco is very predictable, he does not call audibles when the play is so obvious, and he is inconsistent. I guess you forgot the games where he threw handful of interceptions, making average defenses look like the Ravens 2000 defense.

Your right, Flacco doesn't strike fear to any defense.  At one time our defense did... I'm hoping we can get back to it!  Taking a hit from Ray Lewis or Bernard Pollard speaks wonders.  Now that's fear!!!. Flacco, not so much.

Would love to see Kaepernick brought in to back up Joe and push him throughout the year. Would also like to see us give Jamaal Charles a look, work him out at least. Barnidge would also make sense to gander at a la Dallas Clark role. Any updates on Watson?

Jamaal Charles just signed with Denver and as for Kaepernik I think he'll be a great back up for Joe. But, I also like the kid from Western Michigan and he's really mobile and really accurate.

The Ravens have signed the back up QB, dont think they will not sign a no.3. its a waste of time and effort. let alone that Kaepernick cant push his wifes cart around the Safeway.

I think Charles is a fine idea, the question is how affordable?

At this point I think the Ravens are pretty certain that they wont add a TE, why pass on the best TE of the year if the team felt there was a need at all?

Flacco doesn't strike fear in defenses and therefore we are building a defense that strikes fear in offenses. Joe is a very good QB that has limitations and as long as we work around those limitations he can be very effective. The problem however is we aren't working around his limitations and instead driving right through them. How? By not giving him a great O-line that protects him long enough for him to get rid of the ball and not having a robust run game that we use as our first option. If Joe had a good running game and good protection, he can take us back to the promised land. But, our coaching lacks imagination and were erroneously making Joe the focus of our offense.

Since Charles signed with Denver, looks like we are all-in on West (and Dixon, eventually).

Howard may have also been the best WR available when the Ravens were on the clock; he's taller and faster than Williams. The Ravens could then cut Watson, Pitta, and one of the other small army of guys they need to keep on the roster to try and get a couple of average guys on the field.

Also wonder where the Ravens had JuJu and Godwin on their board.

Flacco doesnt strike fear into defenses because they know his o line is made of pipe cleaners and he has no one to throw to.

I call Rodgers in the same boat. I call all quarterbacks in the same boat actually, especially Brady: who i call  "mr pick and lateral" and just plain overrated.

It could be that they just have not been shown it by the young Ravens, specifically the Sophomore class.

I agree, there is an element of the unknown that exists or to be "proven otherwise"

Perriman, Dixon, Moore are on the hot seat, maybe not so obvious Alex Lewis, Nembot, and even Keenan Renolds. All of them have seen limited playing time (exception of Dixon). This year that is going to change, could it be in the making?

Though not seen last year, the TE position could very well emerge as a sleeping giant. Woodhead in the backfield could be the X-Factor that allows the deception needed for a talented TE core to show its effectiveness. Some one has to cover the crafty RB, here presents the TE already deeper than 5-8 yards into the defensive backfield and missed in coverage, Boom! or the Slot receiver that is just one more player than is coverable in Waller/Woodhead/Moore.

Though coaching is very important, absolutely hunger for excellence within each player is critical in pushing them above the crop. Thus , the possible "fear" element as a team.

As far as a QB casting fear, as posted by some, I think that needs response by defenses around the league. I'm not sure they agree to what critical method one would describe fear. However I can tell you that from what I have read, most players and teams have tremendous respect for Joe Flacco's deep ball and passing game in general.

I would give the Steelers a B, and the Bengals and Browns an A- with the upside of an A.
We killed it in the 3rd round. 2nd round....I'll wait on that. Marlon will make or break this draft. I thought there were better corners that went way later in the draft. Which could've set up a whole different strategy. You are a Baltimore Raven though now Marlon. I hope you read all of my comments for FIRE!

I agree. I though the Browns had an A+ draft. They just took playmakers with high upsides and gathered even more picks in the future.

side note:- it must suck to be peppers when you fall so far then the brown move up and take you lol. It's like you sacrifice your money to go to a better team then the worst team ends up getting you on the cheap

Rodgers with me and you blocking for him manages to put together a season better than Flaccos best so let's not compare apples to grapes.

Flacco needs an elite line to succeed and so do about 28 other QBs. No shame in that but let's not compare that to Rodgers. When Rodgers has a solid line, he throws for 5k yards 50 TDs and like 7 INTs.

And don't get mad at me, I didn't make the list. Just sharin it with yall.
Maybe and undrafted FA surprises. I know some people want a FB, but we don't need one, it's 2017. Not to mention, I know he's 6'4, but I think Boyle would be a NASTY FB. I'm guessing he would be a better blocker than Juice, and I think he's a more dangerous receiver for sure.

No more anticipation folks, here it is. I'm very ready to go into January with this roster. The coaching was discouraging at best last year, but it's a new year. To keep it simple, I LOVE that 52 man roster. Our defense is back. Opposing offenses fearing our defense is back. CANT WAIT

I still like the Ravens' draft over anyone else's in the division. Bring in Mangold as center, sign a veteran WR to a one-year deal, deal God a comp pick to keep Camp healthy, and our work here is done.

Couldn't agree more. I want to see receivers ducking in the middle of the field because they are scared of the hit that is coming. I miss those days. Pollard and Ray had players literally cringing and forcing an incomplete pass without even making contact. Good times

I can't believe out of all the post there were lots of negativity about Flacco, but only one about Kapernick.  If Kapernick even appears in Baltimore for a try out, I will never watch another Ravens game.

Haha good one. Kapernick? Have you seen him play recently? I have more confidence in Mallet to lead this team should the need arise. Thinking Kapernick is good is like thinking Tebow is good.
