Welcome to Baltimore Jermaine Eluemunor

This feels like a depth pick. He's make Jensen have to fight to stay on the team. Though the Ravens are decent at developing o-linemen that have potential, so maybe he'll surprise some people.

Hensley finds all the good stuff:

Quote

Food for thought: new Ravens offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor won the individual Hot Chicken Eating Contest at the Music City Bowl welcome party when he played for Texas A&M

not so sure about this one. has a robert myers feel to it for me.

I actually like it a lot. Don't really remember what was Myers' profile but Eluemunor has the tools and worst case we can still try him at tackle.

Tools are there but this is definitely a developmental project.  Fits the typical mold that the new OL coach likes so I'm sure he had some big input into this selection.

So who is our new OL coach anyways

He didn't even see the game of football until he was a teenager and played for the first time at 14.

Kid is just scratching the surface of his potential. And as a former soccer player he's got the ability to develop cleaner footwork and mirror defenders. Just has to develop the lower body strength to carry his weight better.

This is a projection pick that can pay dividends in a couple years.

this was one of the guys i really wanted on the roster - i know he's probably not going to come in and contribute straight away but he's driven and forced his way towards his dream when it would have been easier to do something very different - he has all the tools to develop into a strong starter as long as he can get the game down - but as long as he stays healthy through a couple of training camps and we find a way to stash him this season (unless he develops quicker than expected) then he could develop into a steal - the only thing is that if he drops to the practice squad we probably wont see him again because of the athletic tools

My thoughts exactly.
He seems to be in a place that would take other players significantly longer to achieve.

Great story no matter what.  I hope this guy finds a home here.

Can't yet find any film on him but he sounds, indeed, like a Robert Myers pick. But given the rugby past, he may be more athletic than he seems at 340. I'm intrigued.

Joe D'Allessandris  Coach for 30 Years on the Offensive line all the team lines he worked with have had low sack totals on those years with him as a coach very good on Technique teaching.

Seems like the perfect guy to work with the o-linemen we drafted,

You know.. You have a point.

I know it's off-topic to an extent, but weren't you gonna make a post-draft mock?

he was offered D1 scholarships as a wrestler too.

And former soccer player, so if he builds up his lower body or cleans up some of his excess weight so he carries his weight better.... he has natural footwork to mirror/match defenders in pass sets.

Plus... doesnt really have any bad "habits" so to speak, bc he hasnt been doing this long enough for anything to be a habit. Clean slate, Just a big, giant ball of clay. With pretty darn good athleticism for his size and a background in other sports that should help him at this position.

rugby is the sport that probably will help his mirroring ability more than any of the other sports because of the way you defend in open space and the lightness you have to have on your feet when defending against guys with great footwork and side-steps/jukes but also the power to hold on and push back those guys - rugby defensive goal-line drills will probably really help him in terms of his drive blocking as a guard and finishing those blocks and ironically defending in space would give him skills that would probably help him as a corner - because of the body shaping and pushing attackers towards the sideline and the back pedal/hip fluidity required to be a good defender in space as a rugby player... if that was his body type/skillset in the nfl which it isnt lol but it should also transfer some ability to mirror well given some space to kickstep into

the biggest thing he will lack is use of his anchor and engaging with his hands together and just general polish all around on the finer details

He played rugby for like a year.... so idk how useful it is. Hes now a much more polished footballer player than he ever was a rugby player. idk that he played long enough for anything to "carry over."

But defending in soccer is very similar to defending a pocket. Retreat a little early with one foot forward and one back for balance. But you dont retreat too much and have to be positioned just right so when they try to cut back inside you can cut that attempt off and keep your body positioned inside.

The footwork and body positioning is very similar. Staying low for leverage when making contact is key as well. The obvious difference is the amount of contact and the hand use.... but for that his wrestling ability is very useful. All about timing your shoot to land first, and controlling the guy across from you's body and weight... using their momentum against them, etc..

Both 1v1 defending, 2nd/3rd defender and team shape defending concepts probably surprisingly to some have a ton in common... coupled with wrestling seem like a darn good recipe for the base of an OL. Just very rare youd have a soccer player become the size of an OL.
