Nico Siragusa had a dominant year in both phases of guard play in 2016. Siragusa’s 99.2 pass-blocking efficiency rating ranked No. 2 among guards in the draft class, and his run-block success rate of 93.4 percent also ranked No. 2 among guards in the class. — Jordan Plocher, @PFF_Jordan

I could honestly see Siragusa as a day one starter, and a good one. I also like that this move potentially forces Lewis out to RT. I think we should sign Nick Mangold.

My favorite pick of the day.  I'm curious to see how the potential transition to C goes, but the guy doesn't shy away from contact so he could be a good fit there.  He's another one of those teddy bear types off the field, but the complete opposite on the field.  He lives for the contact.

My goodness his tape is impressive. Feels like he put guys on their backs half of the time. You wanted a mauler? You absolutely got that.

My favorite tape of his is vs houston. You have to watch donnel pumphrey vs houston to see him though. Before you watch that tape. Make sure you understand who ed oliver#10 DT is so you get a better idea of who hes going up against

They introduced him as a potential Guard and Center in the post-draft presser... Interesting.

For what it's worth, he had a high Wonderlic. Intelligence is an important trait to have in a Center: identifying what the defense is doing and keeping his fellow O-linemen on the same page is what Birk excelled at.

Good ol' google with the answer.

31/50, tied for first according to this site.

Oliver was a true freshman, he can't be drafted for two  more years.

I think it is a lot to expect a fourth round pick to change positions to center and then being a starter his first season.  More likely he plays guard and we bring in a veteran center.  Perhaps with a season of experience he can move to center down the road.

I'm not a fan of the Wormly pick, but this was a great pick. Definitely our best in the draft IMO and I envision him as a day-1 starter.

was nico siragusa injured this year or something? i am not seeing the same player yall are talking about apparently. i was highly unimpressed by his film the first few ttimes i watched, and i went back, looking to talk myself into liking him, and still am not seeing it.

he gets knocked on his butt constantly, he'll get tunnel vision on one man and as soon as another guy bumps him he seems to go tumbling down. he gets really average push, on pull blocks he doesnt even attempt to use his hands and whiffs often, he gets average push and fails to finish, you often see the RB come behind him and the defender disengaging to make the tackle. ive only watched his san jose state game recently, but i watched 3 of his games months ago and recall having a lot of the same impression. ill go watch his other games again to see if im missing something, but i feel like i am watching someone totally different from you guys

Im telling you. Watch the game vs houston. You have to watch the donnel pumphrey tape though. Hes lined up at LG across from ed oliver(one of the most disruptive dlinemen in all of college football)

his game against wyoming was MUCH better. there seems like something was wrong with him vs San Jose St.. because he was dominant vs wyoming. he put his man to the turf very often.

just watched. he had a good game. he pretty consistently plowed holes open against weaker opponents and held his own against oliver, at times he looked like he was pass protecting vs oliver but hes a freak and being able to anchor down and hold your own against that guy is respectable. he appears too susceptible to get too wide on his back shoulder on stretch zones, he got taken advantage of early twice in that game, once by bowser and once by oliver, he just stepped too far to the playside and gave up penetration off his back shoulders. but that also falls on the LT and is also coachable. as far as pass pro and gap blocking goes, im starting to see the upside.

however, i dont see a power scheme guard with him. ive seen him whiff on too many pulls, fail to use hands on moving blocks, and get lost in space way too often for my liking. when it comes to knocking guys around in a phone booth and putting grown men on their butts though, he looks like he can do that

Ya i mean he needs work but that game vs oliver tells me he can hold his own in the nfl. He wont have to face players of Olivers caliber every game. Im sure we can coach him up a bit. Or if he can work at center than thats even better. He wont have to move as much and we can keep him in that phone booth

By far my favorite pick. He's a punisher. This is what an offensive lineman is supposed to look like.

Do you think he's a day one starter though? I personally do.

I do, primarily because he's got the size to compete from day one. All he has to worry about his technique

I do. He's a better fit for our new blocking scheme than any other interior lineman aside from Yanda. Also, he seems really intelligent and coachable, so I think the veteran lineman and coaches will get him up to speed.

im glad you mentioned that wyoming game because i just watched it and he looked pretty solid - I know he's bigger than guys we've drafted in recent ravens history but he didnt seem to work as well when pull-blocking which i guess could be problematic if we are moving to a power scheme like it seems we are - i worry that he's a boom-bust kind of prospect for us...

If we run a gap scheme and slowly convert to a power scheme as guys like goose get acclimated to pulling and learn some better technique then it could work. But I'm just not sure he can acclimate. He doesn't seem to have that skillset to work in space

well they occasionally seemed to ask him to pull in college but he was never really that effective - he looks powerful but doesnt seem to have the footwork to be powerful when engaging as the pulling guard... maybe it's a lack of practice given that they mainly operate a zone scheme in his program - and someone (cant remember who) much more knowledgeable than me about offensive line play in the game day thread after he was picked mentioned that he seemed physically better suited to the power scheme but that they didnt use him well within the scheme so maybe it's about practice and technique (I hope) rather than an inability to work in that sort of scheme

these are my hopes and dreams
