Welcome to Baltimore Tim Williams

176 posts in this topic

I've just been watching all the pressers and interviews etc. Sounds like Tim Williams was incredibly high on the board compared to whoever was left towards the time we picked him just from the way harbs spoke about the way Marty spoke

in terms of having bowser and Williams I think bowser comes in initially to compete for the sam linebacker spot and maybe gives us something different in sub-packages because of his coverage ability whereas Williams is a pure edge rusher to hopefully come flying around the corner into the lap of opposing qbs (not that bowser won't do that too - but I think he might take a little longer to develop a consistently great pass rushing ability)

Today was a good day. Not the biggest fan of Wormley, but worst case scenario he's still a rock solid player. Could be so much worse.

All in all, I like this draft a lot.

But Tim Williams is the icing on the cake. I was literally going on the lines of "if Ozzie doesn't draft offense here I'm gonna kill him". And then the saints and the panthers didn't pick him and I was like "If we don't draft Williams here we're idiots"

We might have just found our pass rushers for the next 5+ years in Bowser and Williams, Judon looked good too so I think he has a role here as well.

Just the freaking combinations here. Like we can do defensive formations for days.

But let's get into the Williams pick. This isn't an Alabama homer pick from Ozzie. This was a "Oh my god, even with the character concerns how did this guy fall?"

He's got a plethora of pass rush moves and elite athletic ability. He can come in on day one, and pin his ears back and raise hell. He plays like a Raven. He needs to improve his run defense, but all in all, he fits like a glove.

Thank you Ozzie. Now draft some damn offense lol.

As a 3rd round pick, I'll never care if Williams doesn't become a true 3 down LBer. Just him do what he does best.

The truth is even if we took someone in the 2nd who could only pass rush I'd still take em.  Pass rush has been pathetic since 14.  We need guys who will apply that pressure especially with the type of dba we've been adding.  I expect a huge spike in sack numbers.

yeah, quite frankly, watching za'darius smith try to pass rush is painful..

To be fair, ZDS coming out of college wasn't expected to be anything great. More of a depth 4-3 DE

This was a bit of a shocker to me, given his off-field concerns I thought for sure the Ravens would run away and not look back.

I hope this kid stays out of trouble please don't be Randy Gregory2.0.

he's way better of a natural pass rusher than gregory.

I'm specifically talking about all the drug tests concerns.

Ive never doubted Williams ability to rush the passer, he's got that natural dip in his hip when turning the corner.

I remember mid-season Walterfootball first began to put him in a 3rd round citing they've heard of multiple failed drug tests at Bama etc. I thought these guys are crazy never heard of it. Then 3 months later as the draft process finally began more and more media began to say the same thing.

I like the pick, I felt the same way about him as Noah Spence last year it's time to take a chance and either hit gold or strike out.

The team can't keep drafting projects like Z.Smith and hope they can develop.

You felt the need to write this why? I wasn't comparing their talents.

I know. But Ozzie's intel at Alabama has to be better than anyone's. I'm hopeful that he doesn't get into trouble...

Becasue if he does stay out of trouble. The rest of the AFC north is going to collectively crap themselves. This guy was arguably the best pure pass rusher in the draft. His run defense needs work, but he has the tools in place to become a good run defender.

Ladies and gents(and @52520Andrew) we have an attack dog. We haven't drafted a pass rusher this talented since Suggs. And we got him in the third freaking round.

I'm going to post a thread later on about how excited I am.

Humphrey plays cb

His skillset screams SS. Some of the best safety's of all time were physical cornerback converts. Ronnie Lott, Rod Woodson. He was picked on by better QBs and WRs last year. As a SS he will not have to play to things he isn't any good at

This is my favorite pick in relation to his value/round. Tim Williams is the pass rusher Correa was supposed to be, sudden and twitchy with actual pass rush moves. Between him and Bowser, one of these guys is going to be an absolute stud, potentially even both and that's really exciting. I just think Williams is ready to step in and make an impact right away and Bowser may need more time to tap into his potential.

Teams went way overboard with the off-field concerns on Foster and Williams imo. I think both those guys go on to light it up and we look back and say "How did those guys get passed up so many times???"

Tim Williams is the new menace of this league. On THIS defense of all defenses, he is gonna be the most efficient 3rd down specialist.

Remember when McPhee had the top pass rush efficiency with us? T will is gonna crush that rating every year on this squad, and he will actually get home, look for 10 sacks rather than 6.

Might take him a year, but it's happening. I wanna order his damn jersey already but don't know if he's keeping 56!

Have you seen interviews of Gregory and heard the things he was telling teams? lol they're quite different. Gregory was a lost soul and had no chance, williams seems to have a real good head on his shoulders

I LOVE the pick. Probably the best Pass Rush specialist of the draft. They'll plug in only on passing situations early on. I just hope he can get his head straight. Drugs problems, had a gun I don't like that but he's got talent. Can be a 12-15 sacks type of guy

It sounds like even Marty Morninwehg was like - you have to take this guy in the war room - sounds like he was incredibly high on our board (which suggests wormley was as well)

I just hope this guy realize the reason he fell in the draft. As Stephen a smith would say "stay off the weeeeeeed."

I agree. I'm loving both the Bowser and T-Will picks right now, looks like they're going to be studs in the not too distant future.

Tim Williams is the piece the ties everything together. I'm not even going into the details with him. He's just good. He checks off the boxes of what I'm looking for in an edge.

It reminds me of when Justin Houston fell. Wow if he becomes the same player

The only downside I see with him is maybe that his frame is maxed out. His hands could be better but so could most guys in college.

Yeah true but we'll see hopefully the stength and conditioning coach gets him to grow into a RUSH LB body. He's pretty dedicated it seems with good work ethic. Hopefully he pans out he has the potential.

So the Ravens picked up some good pass rushers and the Bengals are running a patchwork offensive line...I cant wait for the season to start.

Almost identical situation to Justin Houston. Few spots difference.

I advocated so hard for Houston in that draft.  I wanted the Ravens to take him in the first.  Still so sad lol.
