[News] Round 3 (No. 78): Ravens Select Alabama OLB Tim Williams

This is definitely a STEAL! Yes, he's had off the field issues, but the fact that he dropped to 78 is a head scratcher. He is definitely a solid tackler and he's got NFL ready frame. Last but not least, I think the fact that he dropped this far will make him play with an extra chip on his shoulders. Time will tell. Cheers!

Ok Pass Rush and Corner, check and double check. If we can fine a few gems at O-line- WR and RB this draft looks to be shaping up pretty nicely.

Orlosky and Magnuson, Davenport and Johnson left for O-line 4th round
Isiah Ford, T Rudolf, Josh Renolds or Dupree at WR in the 5th -
(Westbrook or Josh Malone WR in the 4th)
RB- Logan or Dayes in the 6th

I much rather would have had Jordan Willis, but Bowser actually has legitimate talent in comparison to KC😂

Bowser is Usain Bolt

KC is Whitney Houston.

BIG difference in athleticism.

I'm assuming not addressing the O-Line nor WR means the following. One, we are fairly certain Center Mangold will sign with us. Two, WR Boldin is leaning towards signing with us or we are just comfortable with Chris Moore. Lastly, we will find a Tackle or Guard in the 4th or 5th and and possibly move Alex Lewis to RT depending on who we draft.

We shall see! GO RAVENS!

Nope. Still need a RT/G. Ok, I agree that I looks like Mangold may come here and if Boldin comes? So be it. I doubt the Ravens are counting on a 4th/5th/6th round draft pick starting in September. So, Band Aids for another year on offense.

Ozzie Newsome is a wizard Ravens D is gonna be STACKED for the next few years

You do realize Ozzie did pick Matt Elam and Author Brown just to name a few. We'll know how good this defense is or could be after the Bengals game. This guy's don't need their heads swelled any more than they already are.

All you people complaining about drafting to many defenders, just try and remember how many games we lost last year because our "great defense"
could not hold a lead in the fourth quarter.

anyone but me notice that just before all the Ravens picks ESPN went to commercials? We got a lot less coverage but that's ok....there will be plenty of coverage when were in Super Bowl 52.

I did notice that too annoying commercials like every time we pick the 2 seconds of covering our picks. Yeah! no love.

That's what we fans do complain about our team not focusing on both sides of the ball. Which i think is a good argument.

If you wanted evidence of Ozzie sticking to BPA philosophy, this was it.  One can only question how they assembled the board, and time will tell.  I thought they got boxed into taking Humphrey in the 1st after trying to move up and down, and picked the best Bama player on their board. So be it.  Bowser seemed a bit of a reach with the #2, but still not too crazy.  Wormley was actually good value at where he was selected, as was Williams, but the latter has some major character red flags (guess Harbs was out of the draft room at the time).  I was expecting to see JuJu or Godwin at WR and Elflein get nabbed by the Ravens, and Willis ahead of Bowser.  Oh well.   In Ozzie we trust.

I much rather would have had Jordan Willis, but Bowser actually has legitimate talent in comparison to KC😂

Jordan Willis has great strait line speed but that isnt a big factor for edge defender. He is a fighter but he isn't very explosive or twitchy. Similar to Kruger but more pro ready than he was. The Krug spent a lot of time on the sidelines in his first 3 years. But I do think JW would have been the safer pick he is certainly more pro ready than Bowser but Bowser has a much higher ceiling. It looks like we will be seeing JW twice a year though. It will be interesting to see how the two grow over the next few years.

Now looking at all the 4 picks on the defensive side of the ball, one can't help but get pumped up about the defensive potential this team now has. I don't know if players like Zadarius will now make the cut or not, but I am really thrilled to see our defense dominate. Think about how good we can be this year. Scary good.

Yea Z is going to have to bring his A game. Its possible we could keep 5 OLBs but its definitely not a certainty. I like Z hopefully he has been working on his pass rushing moves. Another factor will be his special team play.

Everybody should pump the breaks a little on this best defense talk. Bowser has top shelf athleticism but has to show toughness to play in the NFL. Could be Jamie Collins or close. Could be Eli Harold And Mingo

Our most exciting draft pick Tim Williams has exciting explosive potential to be the best defensive player in the draft. But we do have to pump the breaks a little. He has a ways to go as a run defender. I think he has a good attitude and a smarter player than credited for and hungry to work and get better.

He needs to add upper body strength in a big way. His legs are incredibly powerful. He squats more than most defensive tackles. However He didn't even do the bench at combine or proday. Not surprised considering his upper body looks like that of a cornerback compared to his legs. Which is very strange because most of the time it is opposite way around. Usually a players upper body is big and strong compared to smaller legs. Very rare and unusual a players legs are so powerful and upper body needing strength like that. However big strong legs suggests his upper body frame could stand to get much bigger. And grow into his frame. Mingo never did like the browns hoped. But he also was chicken legged.

If he can add some size to his upper body he could become a complete game wrecker as a 3-4 edge rusher and even 4-3 olb in ever phase. 255lbs would be plenty of size for his style. He is nearly as explosive and athletic an edge rusher as Von Miller. But let's pump the breaks a little because he has some work to do. But he has legit potential to be our most explosive edge rusher since Peter Boulware. Boulware was more ready out of the box but very similar potential. Boulware would be a first ballot hall of famer if he didn't have the knee injuries. Tim has similar skill!!

Try and think about why that happened... our offense was so inept. By having a better offense you stay on the field longer, the defense stays fresh and they then have the ability to see games out.

Lol Stanley at LT, Lewis or Siragusa at LG, Mangold or Urschel at C, Yanda at RG and Lewis or a FA at RT. We will be fine. Goose had a late second early third grade on him by most, he will develop nicely.

Seriously!!!!!!!! I don't know why people don't understand that. It's so simple. Our D was simply gassed at the end of games as well as the season from being on the field the whole time. It's pretty simple

I'd like to see Bowser rotate with Suggs while Williams takes over for Doom. Could be out OLB's of the future.

I dont see Williams playing any first downs and most second downs. He's a pass rush specialist. Il gladly have him fresh and play 40-60 percent of snaps. All he needs to think about is getting to the QB. That was Dooms primary role when he led the NFL in sacks.

suggs obviously is still the best OLB on this squad but the depth we have allows us to rest him ensuring he's 100 percent in the 4th. I don't want Suggs playing more than 60 percent of snaps either. It's a marathon not a sprint.

That leaves Bowser and Judon killing each other for the remaining snaps.

all 4 will get a close to staring role but not quite. Then come playoffs 3 will get the majority of snaps.

imagine all 4 on the field on let's say 3rd and 12. Suggs and Williams outside. Bowser playing ILB with Mosley  and Judon playing DE. I promise you 1 or the 4 will get to the QB in 3 seconds or less lol

bring back some organized chaos Pees!!! You certainly have the talent

Omg. This again?

TOP is not a great indicator of anything!!! It's such a misleading statistic if your trying to reach any conclusion with that stat alone. I don't remember what game last year that we led TOP and punted the ball 7 times. 7!!!

there was another game where we led in TOP but averaged 2:30 per possession. That's horrendous!

dont fall in love with the paper. What obvious is that our offense needs to work  on sustaining drives. So many of our games last year should have been blowouts because our defense forced more punts than anyone. Our defense better finish games. Sure they're not gonna finish them all but il take half. Pees needs to stop with the vanilla last 5 min defense and there's no excuses this time. You have the quality and the depth.

First of all great insightful post,

I'm not worried about Tim stopping the run. He won't need to play first downs and short yardage situations. I'd rather have him work on perfecting his craft than worry about the run and potentially losing some of his burst. This team is loaded with great run stoppers so we can afford to scheme around one pure pass rusher. Heck it's actually gonna be fun for Pees.

What really worries me is what made him fall from a top15 talent to the third round. failing drug tests.... Rookies in the NFL are treated like players that have already failed a test. So basically he's subjected to a random test any given week. So he better stay off the damn weeeeeeeed

2018 if he passes his test then he can smoke all the weed he wants. Just not this year. Please Timmy please stay off the damn weed for a year!

It sure indicates/states how long a defense or offense has been on the field which it so happens that was what the post stated that I responded to.
