[News] Round 3 (No. 78): Ravens Select Alabama OLB Tim Williams

57 posts in this topic

Williams is an excellent, but one-dimensional pass rusher.  Ravens passed on Godwin (WR from PSU), several remaining OL, and even some other Edge rushers (Lawson, etc.).  Hope Ozzie has some good inside info on this kid, because Bowser looks like another "too cute, too soon" pick in the 2nd.

Actually, Wormley might be the most on-target pick Ozzie has had so far relative to the pundits' expectations.

offense gonna be a joke like it always is. if you can put up atleast 13 pts on the ravens youll win the game because they cant put up points and that will always be true with an ozzie built team

Hopefully he stays on the straight and narrow path. Pass rush got a lot younger today, which was our most pressing problem. Our defense is set up to be spectacular. Hope offensive guys fall our way tomorrow, but if the defensive talent is way better, lets keep building up the defense. Another corner and a free safety wouldn't hurt us.

I am extremely underwhelmed by all the picks thus far. Lukewarm on Humphry, and the others have the look of mediocre role players. The front office is getting out game planned in the early rounds every year since the arrival of Harbaugh. Bowser just looks raw, and although we need pass rush, we do have several guys on the roster including suggs, zadarius, judon while we are passing over tackles and centers. why are we wasting a pick on a DE when you need o line? The ozzie draft selection and philosophy never makes any sense to me because you are devaluing the positions you need most to fill. No need for more defensive in this draft.

Analysts tend to disagree. All three guys we picked today have a good chance to become regular starters.

You do realize we gave up the most go ahead TDs in the league over the past two years right?

If you wanted evidence of Ozzie sticking to BPA philosophy, this was it.  One can only question how they assembled the board, and time will tell.  I thought they got boxed into taking Humphrey in the 1st after trying to move up and down, and picked the best Bama player on their board. So be it.  Bowser seemed a bit of a reach with the #2, but still not too crazy.  Wormley was actually good value at where he was selected, as was Williams, but the latter has some major character red flags (guess Harbs was out of the draft room at the time).  I was expecting to see JuJu or Godwin at WR and Elflein get nabbed by the Ravens, and Willis ahead of Bowser.  Oh well.   In Ozzie we trust.

Good point, where are the defensive players we drafted last year going to play. We were so high on them?

No one questions talent just makes no sense as we went heavy on D last year.

My only gripe we don't get Buckeyes! We Ohio State beat all the schools that the Ravens selected Alabama and that school up north but I like all the selections because they play us tough so I know they will bring that same intensity to our squad! Welcome to the Flock Tim Williams! That's four! Keep them Ozzie and Co.

Your logic makes no sense. This is a historically bad o lineman class. This is the first time in history an o lineman didn't go in the top 15. Going against the strength of the draft is a fool's game.

I wish we would have taken Feeney or Elflein at second over a raw Bowser, but other than that, the class is a bunch of underwhelming project lineman. If we can build a shut down defense and be patient and land some vet o lineman after cuts, we will be just fine.

I much rather would have had Jordan Willis, but Bowser actually has legitimate talent in comparison to KC😂

Now looking at all the 4 picks on the defensive side of the ball, one can't help but get pumped up about the defensive potential this team now has. I don't know if players like Zadarius will now make the cut or not, but I am really thrilled to see our defense dominate. Think about how good we can be this year. Scary good.

That's exactly what Doom was/is. One-dimensional

Yet somehow, they've been an incredibly successful franchise. I'll place my bet on Oz. I may lose sometimes, but I'll win a lot.

not really saying they needed to go early, but they have passed over 3 additional selections to take more guys at positions where they have players, while ignoring 2 line holes where the have zero starters. unless you feel that urschel can play center or mangold will sign. i think they probably can find a RT, but they love affair with defensive tackles on this team is ridiculous.

By the end of this draft, theres gonna be about 270 new faces in the NFL. SOMEBODY has to get cut to make room for a lot of them. We'll pick up anything we need afterwards in August.

Like all of our oicks so far. Wish we couldve addressed offense but we got some great players. Out of curiousity is there any chance we could draft Perine tomorrow?

I cant believe he fell to us at this pick, before the draft he was a solid first rounder, He is a complete monster as a pass rusher. Love this pick Williams along with Bowser and Wormley at DE is a great core of pass rushing defensive players. Awesome day two of the draft.....

I'm assuming not addressing the O-Line nor WR means the following. One, we are fairly certain Center Mangold will sign with us. Two, WR Boldin is leaning towards signing with us or we are just comfortable with Chris Moore. Lastly, we will find a Tackle or Guard in the 4th or 5th and and possibly move Alex Lewis to RT depending on who we draft.

We shall see! GO RAVENS!

Defensive breakdowns cost us dearly last year. Pretty safe to say that won't happen again this year. We seem to be building one of the top defenses in the league. It is a fact that defenses win championships and it will great to see the Ravens with a top tier defense again.
The holes on offense can be easily filled veteran FAs such as Mangold and Bolden to name a couple.
I like the clear cut decision of the front office to rebuild the D and their level of commitment to getting it done.
