Not sure this really indicates they are moving away from zone.  While he is powerful, he's still really athletic.

They've said in pressers that we're moving to more of a power run scheme...

So, what's the deal with Siragusa? Ranked 2nd in both pass and run, had the best combine of all the guards, yet nobody was really talking about him and he dropped to mid 4th in underwhelming OL class? Who is crazy here?

here is the thing about mangold. his ony reall decline has come in the run game..in pass protection he is still elite

And his only decline coincided with injury.

Last time he was fully healthy he was a pro bowler 3 of 4 years. Still can be a very good player.... and he was surrounded by garbage in NY. Slotting next to Yanda could help extend his career.

Really happy about the Sirgausa pick.  He was one of the solid talents left on the OL.  We add Mangold, move Lewis to RT and we are looking pretty solid.  Just lacking depth.

Yup. I actually like the oline now. I hope my boy Guerillmo falls and we get Mangold so we can let him develop. I wonder if we take another guard, and put Yanda at center?

Yanda is such a Beast, he could play ILB if our FO asked. I'm pretty sure he'd be a great Center.

He did play at SDSU, which isn't exactly world renowed for football.

That being said, I think we got a steal here. I had Siragusa going the top of round three.

Bengals going crazy heavy on offense.

It's crazy how Steelers, Bengals, and Browns are going more dynamic on offense.  Adding weapons left and right.  We are going in the opposite direction and loading up on D.

I think part of it is scheme fit. He can't play in a zone blocking scheme and most teams are running strictly zone or a heavy dose these days.

He can run some inside zone as long as it's not your bread and butter. But he's strictly a power, man blocker.

So theres just a lot of teams that no matter how good and powerful a blocker he may be just doesn't have the movement skills or athleticism to fit their scheme.

His pass blocking is really good, too, for a stereotype mauler. Typically big nasties suck at pass pro but not this guy.

My take on offensive line has always been to get guys that move people and let them do it with gusto. This guy is a mover.

He ain't no zone blocker so that shows a lot about where we're going but holy moly this guy next to Stanley? With Yanda two slots down? We finally have that nasty, mean bully.

Could you briefly explain the main differences between power and zone blocking schemes to a noob such as myself?
I believe we (effectively) used power blocking during the super bowl run, and then for some reason decided to ditch it the next season in favor of zone blocking?

Cheers

Today is good because a lot of guys drafted today have a chip on their shoulder just because they feel they should have went earlier or they feel they are better than some of the guys that went before them. A lot of these guys come into the league with a chip on their shoulder and tonight we get to see who has a real chip on their shoulder with the phones going crazy to try and get undrafted free agents. The nice thing about the undrafted guys is they probably have a chip on their shoulder and they actually have a say in where they play. cant wait GO RAVENS!!!

Yea, I think its the fact he was facing off against lesser competition.  A lot of the scouting reports talked about his lack of athleticism.  But then he put up good combine numbers.  So there is definitely steal potential here.  With some better quality coaching, we could unlock something.

Defense wins championships. Our soon to be elite defense will be ready to lay the hammer come September.

Power blocking involves a lot of pulling gaurds and tackles. Zone is more like a stretch run. The line kinda slides alomg the line and the running back is supposed to find cut back lanes

Love Mel Kiper.

Siragusa just mauls players.

with a surname like that, mauling is just natural

Hardy har har. It's unprofessional to joke about tragedies that are so recent.
