[News] Round 1 (No. 16): Ravens Select CB Marlon Humphrey

249 posts in this topic

I'm scratching my head about this pick, but I'm hoping it pans out extremely well. I thought our biggest issue was a lack of talent on D-line. Last season our d-line was about as non-factor as it's ever been in our team history.

Is this a joke?

I can“t believe we passed J. Allen and Reuben Foster inmediate impact players.

Three teams helped us by choosing QBs and we did not take advantage of them...

Congratulations Redskins and Niners fans you are very lucky.

Mr. Ozzie, Coach Harbaugh what is your playmaker concept?

Maybe I'm completely wrong.

Very meh in my opinion. Especially considering who was on the board at the time. How do you pass on Allen and Howard?

Wow Cam Robinson still on the board after day 1. Would L O V E to get him in 2nd, no way he's gonna fall for us though. And don't think trade will be happening either.

What is absolutely sad! NFL.com has a rundown from mike mayock of every teams pick so far. Every pick has a description and opinion on the player selected... every player EXCEPT FOR #16 US! SMH

Some fans are never happy. OZ finally addresses a need. J Smith can't stay healthy, Carr is over 30 and Young is small. He is big, fast, and physical. His technique can be coached up.

That being said, they have more TE and DL that you can shake a stick at but hard to believe they pass on OJ Howard or J. Allen. So it makes me beilve they are not a BPA strategy.

He's a second round pick, Ozzie time has passed

In several mocks he was 11th to Saints and not pass the 1st round.

Never was that high ever we passed on Allen Howard and foster. A reaction to what bengals have done and Bryant coming back.

It that a Bad thing? Say they Take Howard. What do they target in the 2nd round? A lesser CB, what's left of Pass rusher or WR. O-line.

I agree, not a sexy pick. But the Ravens defense falls off a cliff when J Smith gets hurt, which is often. They reached for a need.

We signed Jefferson and Carr no need to reach, we didn't take best avalible. Ozzie your time has passed.

Yeah because Jefferson is definitely a corner and Carr is a #1 cornerback in his prime smh

Why would it be a joke our best d linemen only notched 5 sacks almost completely in the first half of the year and he's gone. Our d line couldn't get pressure on a 50 year old drew Bledsoe it's pathetic

all we need now is Ben Boulwere in the third and our D is #1 next year pass rushers lol we don't need no stinking pass rushers Judon Suggs KC and Smith will do great BW and MP clogging up the middle with BK and BU on the end and CD and WH comping at the bits for playing time think about it this way with the secondary we now have we will have at least 3-6 seconds every pass play and we will have over 50 sacks next year you heard it hear first next two picks need to be O-line which should be BPA unless JU-JU falls to us somehow good day one of the draft

Been saying this for a while "the #1 pick in the draft should be a CB like Jimmy Smith"! All CBs should be #1 and Marlon should fit rite in with our Defense!
Good move Ozzie and Co. keep them coming! Welcome to the Flock Marlon Humphrey!

Sonyour saying don't take best available player?

I think it's plenty evident by now that we DO NOT take the best overall player available. We might take the best player available FOR US, considering our needs etc., but saying "We always take the best available player" is just misleading.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, just don't me mistaken, we DO draft out of need, also.

Ive also been hearing that they skipped to commercial break immediately after our pick, I know the NFL cares the least about Baltimore, but it's really starting to get disgusting

We take the 2nd best CB in this year's draft (after Sidney Jones' injury) and Ravens fans are still complaining! Fans have been crying for CB help after seeing the Ravens blow numerous late 4th Qtr leads.....because of a weak secondary.....and now we have one of the NFL's best secondaries and still no love. (Even when we know about Jimmy Smith's durability issue).

Yes, we could have gone with one of the other 3 Alabama players still on the board but we do NOT need another DT or TE and Foster must have had some issues/red flags or he would not have lasted until the 31st pick.

These coaches look at thousands of hours of film and game tape, but obviously some fans know much more than the coaches. Send an email or give Owner Steve Bisciotti a phone call.....he may be hiring!

I agree with you. You can never have enough quality CB's and I also had him #3 just behind Sidney Jones (before his injury) and Lattimore.

LOL, maybe Mayock didn't expect anyone to take him in the 1st, didn't prepare an analysis.

Bills got a better corner at 27 than we did at 16. Sad

Respectfully disagree

Ozzie and Co. brought "PHYSICALITY" to our secondary with all the moves thus far and I'm pumped! That's one!

The NFL hates Baltimore! Yeah, that's it. Hope you don't lose too much sleep over it. Should be more concerned with why Ozzie hates Baltimore.

I was baffled by this pick as well and angry at the FO, until I started considering the WR groups we're going to face in our division twice a year:
Steelers, with Brown and now Bryant back, might have the best starting WRs if Bryant returns to form.
Bengals have Green who we've never been able to stop properly, and now add to that the fastest WR to ever play the game.
Browns don't have any big names, but rumors of the freak-of-nature Josh Gordon returning do not spike confidence.

So if you consider even just our own division rivals and their firepower, this pick makes just a little bit more sense and passing up on maybe better players is not so very frustrating anymore.

Time for Ozzie to pack his bags, horrible pick with who was on the board. Ozzie your time has passed. Thank you for what you have done. Steve time to make some serious offseason moves after this year.

You kick rocks 'BUDDY"! Sound like Busta Rhyme with all this ya ya ya ya ya! YUP!

Sounds like the truth buddy

We play Alabama regularly Ohio State you know Championship games etc Saban was a Browns DC before getting hired at Alabama so Ozzie and Co. got the inside scoop and I seen this guy play and he will shut some of you guys up! Just watch!

Ozzie didnt want to draft anyoneĀ with injury concerns and we already have enoughĀ tight ends.

I think for Allen it was an injury thing which made him fall after being projected as a top 5 guy. Howard is the best overall tight end when looking at both blocking and receiving. Although I don't think that he is the best receiving TE in the draft and thats what we are in the market for. We have plenty of TEs that can block and we have spent a lot of draft resources on that position in the past few years. As far as overall athleticism and big play ability I think both Evans and Njoku surpass OJ in those categories.

I called this pick, Humphrey is a great pick who plays like a Raven. Athletic, relentless, and covers well. Welcome to Baltimore. Have fun covering AB, AJ Green, and possibly Gordon.

Making a run for the Super Bowl you gotta face the squeelers or pats and they both carve up secondaries so why not beef up the secondary like Ozzie and Co. are doing and did?! This is chess it ain't checkers!

Over 50 sacks? Wow, I'll have the Kool aid he's having! If Suggs hits 8 again we are extremely lucky, even if judon makes a big leap you're looking st maybe 6-8, correa has shown no ability whatsoever, zadarius smith and Brent urban have shown very little ability, and kaufausi wont do much on his own. Unless we bit on a player in the second or third we will be bottom quarter of the league again both in sacks and pass rush

Why do you believe that J Allen fell so far? Some experts projected him as a top 5 pick. There are injury concerns about this guy.

http://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2017/03/06/jonathan-allens-shoulder-issues-might-cause-fall-in-nfl-draft/

And that was the case for Foster. I mean the guy dropped to 31. And clearly we weren't the only ones that were worried about that.

There is a good chance that Boulware doesnt even get drafted. And if does get picked it will be in the late rounds.
