I just wanted to say...  You guys sure know how to make a guy feel welcome to Bmore...

Listening to the analysts this morning...  ALL OF THEM believe that this is a GOOD and a SOLID pick.

I think if the analysts were asked now, was this pick a good value considering players on the board and depth at the CB position.

The top two Corners in this draft were S.Jones and M.Lattimore after that it was all over the board as far as the next 5 best Corners. Different sites ranked Q.Wilson, T.White, M.Humphrey, A.Jackson, K.King, G.Conley, T.Tabor ( until he ran like a turtle ).

So if it were possible to trade back any number of spots then trade back.

Sidney Jones has an Achilles injury not an ACL, MCL which requires a full year recovery.

I'm mentally prepared for the rest of the draft now:

After each Ravens pick i'm gonna say i love this pick!

Folks just need to be realistic.  This isn't Fantasy.

There'd be moaning no matter who the Front Office picked.  It wouldn't have mattered.

We need a pass catcher period. Oj Howard would be hands down the most dynamic guy flacco has ever played with and it's not even close. Not to mention he is an elite run blocker, the guys basically an extra OT out there, he would without question be the best skill position player on our offense and coaches would never find a reason to take him off the field, and he was a top 5 talent who fell due to his position, Humphrey is widely regarded as a 20s ranked guy. Plus, Pitta Waller and Watson could all very well be gone next year and probably should be gone already.

i don't care about needs when you have a squeaky clean generational talent 10 spots after he should've been picked.

I dont think Humphrey was viewed as a 20's player. Charlie was reporting as early as 3 weeks ago that according to multiple sources, teams were way higher on him than the public. The majority had him as at least the #2 CB on the board, and many had him as the best. They were expecting him to come off the board Top 10, w. NO at 11 or Philly at 14 his fall backs. Just so happened that Lattimore and Barnett fell into their hands instead.

I like Howard alot, trust me. And he may very well become dominant, and if so it wouldve been awesome to have him. But, clearly teams arent quite as high on him as we all are. I think hes a very good blocker, but the extra OT might be a bit of hyperbole. Hes definitely more developed in that regard than most college TE's but i wouldnt go that far. And his pass catching dominance is a projection because weve never seen it consistently. No, he wasnt featured in Bamas offense and thats not his fault -- and he showed take over ability in the 2015 championship game.... but its still somewhat of a projection.

Humphrey was highest on their board and they took him. I can be happy with that.

And now when the run on CBs starts early tonight we're in a power position to either grab the falling players at other positions (pass rush, OL, WR) or trade back with a desperate team for another 3rd. We're in a very good spot to grab a top pass rusher and OL with our next 3 picks, and if so when looked back on as group -- this haul could look awesome.

As always its going to come down to how Humphrey and Howard pan out. But, i think its clear that we had Humphrey rated higher and that we werent alone in that regard.

Baltimore Ravens: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama

Grade: A-. Humprey bolsters the Ravens' new-look secondary in an exciting way. Cornerback was a position of need and he is a scheme fit as well. An outside linebacker might have been the better play here, but Baltimore did well.

sure, which in genius with the seriously in-depth report posted that? Hate cookie cutter stuff like this.

Humphrey wouldnt have gotten past the Titans at 18.

And there are many reports that Humphrey was the top CB on a lot of boards, and #2 on most of the others.

Of course you do....  Because it was a professional that posted it.  You might want to check out the Draft Grades blog; and take your pick at any of the grades.

People were going to find a way to complain regardless.  I personally did not want any parts of Allen.  This was weird because we had so many directions to go and honestly, none of them really would've been wrong.  I'm happy we went corner and have no problem with Marlon.

So was Dee milner and dre kirpatrick..more alabama nonsense whom i also saw as busts. never draft an alabama corner. Can you name any not named Kareem JAckson ( who's good not great) that have been not shown up in the pro's over the past decade?

where is the draft grades blog? not that i need it because I never expected us to pick him based on what i saw..I thought we wanted playmakers on both sides of the ball and as a corner he isn't a playmaker. he's a hard hitter thats great at destroying screens. He isn't this fluid, instinctive shadowing corner that you would pick in the top half of the first round. He's a SS.

Not really. I mean we all know the strategy; the best Bama player that Harbs thinks is an altar boy.

To me it's mind boggling to even fathom this guy was rated higher than OJ "by far"

I saw that sports science video. Thing is that he doesnt play to that speed. He isn't a ''natural'' in that regard. Unless he drastically improves his footwork and ball skills along with developing an instinct to when to turn around it won't matter if he's usain bolt.

I argue that if we picked the guy (oj) people would moan about another TE. Despite him being the most gifted and talented player we have had a chance to draft since 03.

Oj and famous jameis will make quite a few gms feel very stupid

dre kirkpatrick has been pretty damn good for the bengals so you would have been wrong to label him a bust - as has been proven by the 5 year contract he signed and Dee Milliner played well when he was on the field he just kept getting injured like literally all the time

and as for the last decade thing there have only been 5/6 alabama corners drafted high including humphrey - and one of them was cyrus jones who was an absolute reach

in fact im pretty sure that alabama has only had 8 corners drafted at all into the NFL ever... and 2 of them were day 3 picks... so I dont know how you could draw any conclusions from that given that antonio langham, fernando bryant, kareem jackson, dre kirkpatrick were all good players for a while, dee miliner looked good when he was healthy, 2 of the corners drafted were drafted day 3 and the other one is cyrus jones (who was an enormous reach)...

lol so bc former Bama CBs didnt work out, Humphrey wont? Sound logic.

Humphrey is his own man. If he becomes a star its because of him, and if he flops its because of him... not bc hes from Bama and Dee Milner was a bust.

And of course -- i forgot that youve correctly predicted every draft bust and success i history.

Just for the record, who would you have taken at 16?

I wouldve taken Jonathan Allen. But im not privy to his medical records, so admittedly it could blow up in my face and i could be totally wrong.

But instead of the "i was so great at predicting prospects way back when no one has proof" lets put what you think in writing for this draft.

dre has been awful, he had 1 decent but not great by any stretch of the imagination season last year. Bengal fans have never taken to him and hated the contract he was given.

yeah, btw Cyrus jones in the 3rd round wasnt a reach..thats where i projected him.

Humphrey is a 2nd round talent. I don't care how great his measurabes are.. if you're a first round corner, i want ball skills.and the ability to mirror recievers big or small.

Bamas scheme makes corners look better than they actually are. The FO should stop this anti LSU mindset . They create great polished secondary talent.

Enough with this crap. They tried to trade up for either Reddick or Barnett -- so there goes your best Bama player non-sense.

Again -- many sources have been saying for the last 3 weeks that the actual teams are much higher on Humphrey than the public. #1 CB on a lot of boards and a top 10 prospect.

The draft is so funny. We all realize that the draft experts are hardly ever right. If they get 5-6 picks correct its considered a good mock. And their record at predicting who pans out is awful.

Yet, when the Ravens dont follow that group think.... we all complain that our BPA didnt line up with the medias. lol

If Mayock, DJ, Kiper, McShay and Walter had Humphrey in the Top 5 and we didnt take him we'd be saying Ozzies an idiot blah blah blah.

They didnt take the 24th guy on their board just bc hes from Bama.... thats the dumbest argument ever bc Allen, Foster and Howard were all right there. So your sarcastic comment is just stupid. If it was just take the best Bama player, why didnt we take one of those 3? And Howard/Allen are both totally clean off the field... so why wasnt it one of them??

Bc they think Humphrey's better!!

If you dont agree with that - thats fine. Thats different. But this stupid narrative that Ozzie and Harbs just take the best Bama player on the board thats a choir boy doesnt even make sense in this situation.

And they know more than you.

I agree with the second round part and that's why I'm not too down on this pick. We got a huge upside player who at least is healthy and fits our scheme and has great character and passion, you can work with that, and we lucked out with the amount of edge rushers and OL still available and we absolutely should be able to pounce due to the corner depth sill there, we take an average value near the top of the position group to set ourselves up to take fallers later.

I doubt they anticipated that at all or that it was part of their plan. They probably just liked him more than most of us, but it plays out nicely so far

So let me get this straight: they attempted to and failed to move up a whopping 1-3 positions to draft a guy that was graded lower than Marlon?

They most likely wanted too much for their 16th pick.  Friend of mine told me the exact same thing....  "Tennessee had Humphrey on their board."

no one ever said that - they said that when they got on the clock he was the highest guy left on their board by far - not that he was better than the guy they would have traded up to get

Oh i agree - i dont think they said lets grab humphrey now bc theres going to be a run and we can profit from that.

But Decosta did say on the Lounge podcast last week -- which proved to be telling -- that if one of their top CBs was on the board, that they felt could become a lockdown player, they were going to have a very hard time passing him up... bc they felt this draft was very good at the top at CB, and while deep after the 1st tier there were very good players, but not lock down type players.

If they feel they got a lock down player, then im all for it. This secondary is now scary and deep. 3 Top 15 safeties, a Top 3-5 CB (when healthy), the top young slot CB in the league, a solid veteran #2 who functioned as a league average #1 last year, and now a rookie with HUGE upside. We've got 7 DBs that can really play now. Good luck throwing on us.... and that helps the pass rush immensely.

And if we now can leverage a run on CBs, think about it. The difference between Humphrey and say Kazee, Howard Wilson, or Shaq Griffin - who might be the tier of CBs that are available come the 3rd round -- is imo much greater than the difference between Harris, Takk, TJ Watt and Tim Williams, Carl Lawson, Willis and Bowser who at least one of should be available at 47.

And then add the fact that a Dion Dawkins, Feeney, or Elflein could be available then in the 3rd round who arent far at all behind the 1st round guys -- we could end up filling our 3 biggest needs with two 1st round talents, and a 2nd round talent.

TE too... super deep group. Howard is obviously the class of the group, but Gerald Everett, Adam Shaheen, Bucky Hodges, George Kittle, Jake Butt -- theres some serious athletes and dynamic playmakers there if we want one. Not the polish or complete package as Howard, but definitely the athleticism to be match up nightmares.

So, even if you think we didnt get the greatest prospect available at 16.... i think hes among the cleanest and safest, with maybe not quite as high upside but still serious potential; and by going that direction it puts us in position to make the draft as a whole have a much bigger impact on improving this team.

When ozzie says BY FAR, it reminds me of what he said about matt elam.

We don't seem to value ball hawking in baltimore. Aside from the ed reed pick, we seem to focus mostly on run stopping secondary players.

No, they tried to move up for either Reddick or Barnett who they had rated above Humphrey.

Clearly whoever it was we tried to trade up with knew we were coming up for their guy and wouldnt trade with us. So we stayed pat and took the next highest rated guy who was Humphrey.

How did you not understand that?
