Joe Flacco's Head-clock...sucked tonight. Clearly.

But does that have more to do with the receivers not getting separation or does Flacco just need to get better at getting rid of the ball?

Maybe both?

I'd fault him for trying to squeeze some throws in and make plays but mostly I think the receivers jus couldn't get open.

I fault the recievers. He really didnt hold the ball if he didnt have to. The OL did a poor job in pass protectio and the recieving core was lack luster. Flacco didnt get much help in either regard.

I agree, Joe needs protection and the receivers have to get open

Like I said before he had to do things that he hasn't had to do all postseason and that is try to win the game for his team and not manage it.

Meh, I actually think the O-Line held their own tonight. Sure, Gaither got called for a few holding penalties, and a couple sacks were given up, but both of the sacks came after plenty of time for Joe to sling off a quick pass.....he just didn't have anyone to sling it to. I give it up to the Steelers defenders: they were stingy as heck and weren't letting the receivers get any open space. Maybe that's the receivers fault, or maybe that's just the Steelers playing better ball.

Nah, the game was never really at the point where he had to win it for us....
He played poorly because our OL and receivers were awful; although there were a couple of throws that he should never have attempted.

No doubt; that was apparent on every other snap in which the ball was snapped with a LB or two attached to it. And on the rare occasions that Flacco actually got to set his feet and throw, there wasn't anyone open anyway. Just a great job by LeBeau calling the shots and Pitts executing.

No, he didn't. The defense and the running game got us that far, he just didn't turn the ball over. He didn't do anything to win those games. Stop giving him that much credit.

As a rookie QB, Flacco was absolutely GREAT this year, he deserves plenty of respect ! It's natural that he looked nervous and made mistakes yesterday.
To be honest, his mistakes were expectable...but in the years to come, he could become THE outstanding QB in the NFL !

I thought Flacco did fine yesterday against a defense that was really outstanding. He made a couple of ill-advised passes, but he was under duress on almost every snap. Early on we had several drops that I think set the tone for the first half. But credit to the Ravens for hanging in there together and taking it to the wire. I was SURE that we were going to take the final drive and win that game. But in the end it was not meant to be.

AWESOME YEAR RAVENS! Thanks for all of your hard work and what you did to energize the city. You guys ROCK! Can't wait for next year...

receivers were being to well covered.....seriously. if mccalister and rolle were out there i think we'd have had a better shot.
joe had to use his big arm 2 force some things cuz noone was open and cam called bad plays. if i was....i may have audibled out of a lot of that crap.

remember cam went 1-15 with the dolphins for a reason.

He made some mistakes, sure, but the first 5 passes or so that were not caught were on point and would have been huge had they been caught. The bottom line is, and I said it numerous times leading up to this game, is that you cannot change the formula now all of the sudden on how we have won. You can't say okay, we run the ball a lot and throw the ball 17-24 times, then come out swinging 3 times throwing to try and switch it up. Throwing 30 times was not our formula for success, and I think that was in part why we lost.

Yeah but running the ball against the Steelers is REAL tough. Flacco put his first two passes in the perfect spot and they were just dropped. If those passes are caught who knows, maybe he gets into a rhythm and the running game can work off of the pass. Bottom line is the Steelers shut us down and I'm not convinced it would have been any different if we'd tried to run the ball more. At some point to win at this level you have to ask your QB to make big plays (see Ben R.), but the Steelers were just too good.

Flacco IS a rookie, no matter on how he "looks" for certain games.. But I will tell you something.. Joe Flacco WILL be the headlining star of the Ravens after this year.. Its about time the Ravens found what they found (by accident) in Joe Flacco. There hasn't been a stable QB in years, and Flacco will become a staple in Baltimore now.
The Joe Cool shirts, and merch is coming...

What a way to prove himself. He played with the big boys, and come next year, no one will be saying anything other than here comes a star.

Where did this "accident" occur? From what I can remember, Ozzie traded "up" to get Flacco with the 18th pick so that he didn't go to someone else.

I don't think there was any accident involved with finding Joe Flacco. They knew what he was about and they did what they had to do to get him on this Ravens team.

Now, his starting role this year was more of an accident. The Ravens never planned on playing him this year but with the injury to Boller and Troy Smith getting sick, we didn't have any other choice. Fate? Maybe? We'll see next year.
