[News] Report: Ravens Re-Sign Defensive Back Lardarius Webb

47 posts in this topic

I like Webb. I think Jefferson is an up-grade over Webby at safety that being said I know Webby can play either Safety or Corner and he gives us much needed depth at a fair price. Like I said before "Welcome home Webby"

Suggs brings more to the table. You already have Young, Smith, Carr, Jefferson, and Weddle in the secondary. Who do Ravens have if Suggs is gone?

To put Webb in a category of Suggs is ridiculous.

How often does Suggs go down and we are left scrambling for pass rush depth? Hint, it happened once

how many times have our cbs went down and we watch an otherwise solid team become abysmal because of practice squadders starting in the secondary? Literally every year

IS Webb at this point in his career worth spending money on with so many holes at Wr, OL, Pass rush? IMO no.

IMO, yes. Have faith we will address those concerns through the draft, and add at least one more veteran WR in free agency, and maybe O-line hole with veteran presence also. Secondary has been a glaring weak spot for a few years now, more specifically lack of depth when someone goes down. Webb is more than capable to step into a variety of back field positions, and comes on the relative cheap, at least by NFL standards. Like I stated, add a young gun CB in the first three rounds, and our secondary is among top of the league not only starting but back-up as well. I think it was A good decision to re-sign Webbie, we'll take care of our other needs-still a lot of time, so no need to panic.

Add in that now that Webb is not starting, he could compete for handling return duties as well...he's getting long in the tooth for such things, but at least he has experience if need calls upon him to play on ST.

Wonderful news! I understand the business part, but really, it would seem so unnatural to see Webby wearing any other uniform.

So who are you gonna get in free agency to fill those holes? Money can't buy what isn't there

Anytime a big name Raven gets cut and falls off the face of the Earth in terms of being a free agent, they re-sign. Dumervil will re-sign as well, just watch.

I would love it if dumervil resigned. I watch 2016 Ravens games on NFL game pass so often I see dumervil All the time pushing the pocket, hustling to the ball, and making some plays. A healthy offseason is what he needs.

Webb was part of the secondary that routinely surrenders 4th quarter leads. I don't get how adding him makes the Ravens better or add quality depth. What happened to getting younger and faster?

He is a great tackler and belongs more at nickel, since a lot of teams are using 4 receivers, I think he will get used more efficiently and really adds depth to the secondary, something the Ravens have not had in a long time. Good move

We will use 3 safeties on the back end alot and now have depth if Weddle or TJ get hurt. Both Weddle and TJ can play SS and Webb is a FS/Nickle CB. This is a practical move.

One thing it allows us to do is bump TJ inside to a LB spot on passing downs, so Mosely is the only true LB on the field, if that.
The Three year part is a little weird to me. I want to see the contract details. But like a lot of people on here, I think it's a good signing.
A lot of people on here think he can play cb outside and the slot.....I'm not so sure about either of those. I think his traditional cb play has been slipping for years.
But I do think he can still play FS, and cb when we play zone with more dbs on the field.
I also think he can field punts. He might not be Hester or Jacoby in their prime, but I think he can do a serviceable job. Especially fair catches inside the 20. A mix of Webb, Camp, and a draft pick returning kicks sounds great to me. I'm curious what Moore has to offer as well.
But having Webb's sure hands to return punts sounds terrific. I feel like I've been biting my lip and cringing on every punt return since our 2nd SB year. Especially Jacoby the year after. It's such an important an underrated part of the game. It'd be nice to have stability back there.
I haven't watched any of Adoree Jackson's CB tape, not return tape. I know he's electric in the return game, but I would want to think he can become a very good cb if I was going to spend a 2nd rounder on him. People falling in love with the return ability reminds me of Justin Gilbert.
I would imagine just about everyone would say that Adoree is a better prospect than Gilbert was coming out. I think Gilbert went 8th overall, and almost everyone has Jackson going in the 2nd round this year. That speaks volumes and is an awesome example of how absurd this draft is.
If Takk, Barnett, Davis, Ross, and Williams are all gone at 16, which is possible, I think we should definitely trade back a nice 7-10 spots. It would most likely mean getting the same quality of player, while getting an extra pick to grab somebody like Sidney Jones! Gotta do it.
I have a feeling Ozzie will seriously be looking at Foster and Cam if they're there at 16 as well.
This draft is going to make and/or kickstart multiple franchises

Its also possible that Woodhead could be in the mix as a returner.

NOW the Ravens need a young Safety for Weddell and Webb to do a brain dump for the future. Could you imagine all that knowledge of AFC teams dumped into a guy like Malik Hooker with Weddell's durability?

Glad to see a lot of positive responses on this Webby move. Man, I have loved this guy since he first hit the field and I am glad he is staying in the Purple and Black.

Lots of great moves this off-season but still have holes and a wish list... going to be an interesting draft!
