30 posts in this topic

The Ravens general manager joked that drafting a Pro Bowl receiver won’t be his final accomplishment before riding off into the sunset. Baltimore has had some hits and misses at receiver.

Mostly misses at WR for Oz other positions Oz has had great track record on. But I would love for Oz and his staff to get a pro-bowl WR in the draft for sure.

If we're winning the division, going deep in the playoffs, and winning a super bowl every few years, I could care less if any player goes to the pro bowl. Let's just get back to winning.

our focus in draft should be PassRushers, CBs , C/G/T.

agree but maybe a WR in the 3rd, Noah brown, Isiah Ford, Cooper Kupp, maybe DE DE Westbrooke (probably wont be there)

considering who weve had at QB since 1996 , its no wonder none of the receivers we draft become elite.

Yeah. There's definitely a long list of WRs who came here, sucked, and then played well elsewhere.

O wait...

Yeah, a lot of the people blaming the qb or coaching staff for our issues with wrs are the same people that said Marlon Brown, Aaron Mallette, and several others would put up big numbers on other teams. How'd that work out? Most of the receivers that leave Baltimore have a huge drop in production or can't even stay in the league (i.e. Marlon, Torrey, Mason, Doss), and the recent veterans we have brought in had a resurgent year(Smith Sr, Wallace). I can't even think of 1 WR that wasn't productive here, then left and played well elsewhere.

Right on. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Mat Burk retired. What are Ravens still looking for? Linebacker, Safety, and a Center.5 years later. Has everyone forgot about the nightmare when Matt Burk retired in 2013?

how could you not mention STEFON DIGGS in this article? how ignorant can you be? Apparently as ignorant as Ozzie for not wanting to spend a 4th round pick on an ELITE athlete in YOUR BACKYARD

That just shows how poorly they draft receiver. They are not stars here and drop off shortly after.

Everyone is picking your comment apart, but your're right. Obviously we haven't drafted or brought in a lot of awesome wrs. But the qb and style of offense obviously plays a large role.

If Williams, Ross, or Davis are there at 16, it'll be crazy tough, and maybe crazy stupid to pass on them. Barnett would be a decent excuse. Going Barnett or Takk, then Ju Ju in the 2nd is the only way I could justify passing on one of those 3.

And the solution of course is to just quit trying... because that makes perfect sense.

Well we do have CJ Mosley, who's pretty good. If you fools still think we're going to find the next Ray Lewis or Ed Reed before you even die, you're just fooling yourself. There's 31 other teams teams in the league, and they've spent decades looking for players of that caliber. We haven't had them for all of about 5 years. O the humanity!

Yes, everybody forgot Birk. He wasn't here that long, was pretty average at the end, and the Ravens were pretty good in 2014 without him.

Again, its been a whopping like 3-4 years, and you guys act like its been an eternity.

A little perspective goes a long way folks.

Starting to get back to the way it was a few months ago, when it was quite obvious that a lot of you fans actually DESERVE a losing team.

Yup, and in many ways, it plays a large role in some of those guys being as GOOD as they are.

Namely, Torrey Smith.

You're right. The 96 draft with Lewis & Ogden (& Jer, Lewis) is ranked as a top ten of all-time selection. Nothing from anyone (even the Patsies) ranked as good in the last 20 years. So yeah, we need to keep some perspective when we keep demanding the next Ray Ray or Antonio Brown every year.

In 2007 the Niners drafted Patrick Willis, Joe Staley, Ray Mcdonald, Dashon Goldson, and Terrell Brown. JO and Ray definitely had better careers than Staley and Willis but you could make the argument that the other three picks in that draft put that class above ours. Those guys were the only guys they drafted that year too. Its a pretty good class. All of the guys were instrumental in getting to the SB in 2012. But I dont think they have two HOFers in that group.

Yea there is some selective memory about every aspect of that season. Birk was a solid anchor for us but he was on the back 9 of his career. He had already played 10 seasons with the Vikes. When he would have to go against big powerful NTs I would get worried. Wilfork gave him fits.

Did you know that Birk came from the NFC. Is he an exception to your rule that AFC free agents are better than NFC free agents?

CAP SPACE !!!! Tom Brady. The five-time Super Bowl champion, who officially staked his claim as the greatest quarterback in the history of the game, was the highest-paid player on the New England Patriots this past season with a cap hit of $13,764,705. That’s because Brady tends to clean up in signing bonuses and guaranteed money.
Lets see Flacco "lower" his CAP SPACE so this team can sign at least 2 more much needed players ( center and DB ).
Then let's get TE Howard in the first round, a LB/Edge in second, O line in third, and a RB in fourth. Our RB are just to small to pound the ball in our division.

Getting this so called "Pro Bowl" WR mite not solve anything if Joe doesn't use them correctly! Smh he could never hit speedy Jacoby Jones in stride Jacoby always always had to either wait on the ball to come out the clouds or he always always had to stop and turn around when going deep for a pass to make the catch! And he got Torrey sent outta here with a very very very bad pass that shouldn't been thrown to him! Yeah yeah he didn't fight for the ball but Stevie Wonder saw the over and under coverage smh so what will a pro Bowl WR do?! Get under utilized and probably hurt with garbage passes and routes that do not create separation! Ozzie an Co. can only do so much!

He pretty much can't lower his cap hit to the level that you require, nor should he.

Wasting your time.

Hard to really analyze this since the only top receivers Ozzie has drafted since we drafted Flacco are Smith and Perriman.  Smith was a 2nd rounder that imo played pretty well for us.  Perriman has an opportunity to be very good if not better, but we will know more in the next couple years.

I guess I should have stated "mostly misses at WR up to this point in time" Your right Perriman still has a chance to be great and Smith played pretty decent for us when he was here.
