22 posts in this topic

After playing in 13 games as a rookie, the third-year defensive lineman sat out all of last season due to an ankle injury. Now he, Willie Henry and Michael Pierce will be called on to help fill the void left by Jernigan’s departure to Philadelphia.

His body has some Man strength now. I think those three guys with Big B will be a force! Still not sold on our 5 tech's yet. I think this is where we go 1st round. 5 tech or OLB. Right tackle would be a strong third choice.

I have been waiting for an update on this guy. A big knock on him coming out was that his work ethic wasn't great. I was worried he would go home to recuperate after the injury instead of staying in Baltimore. If he did that his mental struggles would be much greater than what they were. I am glad he stayed. Its good to here he is getting in the gym too. It seems like him and Willie have a good relationship. They're are going to push each other for playing time.

IDK.... I am excited about Kafusi... especially with the time that he has been able to put into the weight room. Urban has shown flashes and think that he can continue to grow.

As much as the Jernigan trade hurt me, there still is light at the end of the tunnel. Between Kafusi, Davis, Henry, and Urban. We have two third rounders and two fourth rounders that have had some time to develop. I expect Judon to get some snaps as a DE on obvious passing downs. Pierce will also get some playing time next to Bwill on obvious run downs and goal line situations. Add whoever we draft or pickup via FA and we still have a stacked interior!

its gonna be war for playing time between our interior guys as Bwill is the only guaranteed starter. Indeed it is time to step up!

Let's see how good Davis and Henry look this year after a year of the Ravens training program. I'm sure they're stronger, quicker than they were before. So it should all be good. Between Williams, Davis, Henry, Pierce, Kaufusi and Urban I think we have a good and versatile D-line!

Ya, all the FA's, the draft and some of the young guys getting a chance to play this year is all good but it just seems like every year, we have a multitude of things happen that shake our roster down to just a couple potential play makers at best by the start of the season. Perriman and Kindle come to mind right off but of course, there are plenty more I can't think of right now (Davis). The storm of training camp and pre season and who goes to jail between now and then, plays a huge part to how our roster pans out, not just who we pick a lot of times. So while a great draft will do wonders, it's only on paper until they get through their first few games of the season. I'm just hoping for a good draft and a healthy preseason. If we can just do that, we're better off than the last couple years.

Was Davis the one who was pissed after the draft because he was picked later, and by-passed by a number of teams? Let's see if he can tap into that motivation again, and go out and prove 31 teams how wrong they were for skipping him.

All of them have got to step up. We need a MLB , OLB / DE ,DL ,C, OT and WR so yeah a lot of guys need to step up. It seems like they would be jumping for joy and ready for competition to try to become the starter. Who's the hungriest and is going to strut their stuff or is it going to be new rookies coming in who are going to win the starting jobs. PLENTY OF STARTING JOBS UP FOR GRABS!!! Let the competition begin. Play like a Raven.

Everyone on the team should treated and trained hard as starters. Being called second string or third string does nothing but destroy morale. If their having issues work them harder and don't take the easy road by working with the starters. This could explain why it takes years for Ravens to get a draft guy on the field.

Dude 5 sacks a game is a bit much!  That would be 80 sacks for the entire season.

The 84 bears have the record with 72 sacks in a season.

Here's a look at the last 5 seasons for Team Sack Leaders :

2016- 48 sacks Cardinals

2015- 52 sacks Broncos

2014- 54 sacks Bills

2013- 60 sacks Panthers

2012- 52 sacks tie Broncos & Rams

So a more reasonable expectation is 3 to 3.5 sacks a game.

I think the line will be better than good. I think it will be elite at stopping the run no doubt. Maybe the best front against the run in the league, depending on how Sizzle's bookend sets the edge and plays the run. I know the front 3 aren't usually depended on to get sacks, but it would sure be nice. I think Pierce and Williams should be able to get 5 sacks together and push the pocket. But the wild card is that extra starting spot. I like Carl Davis, but I don't know how much pass rush he'll offer, we'll see. But I think Henry can be a better version of Timmy. He's the wild card. Urban is solid. I don't see Kufasi earning much playing time besides some 3rd down pass rushing, but I hope I'm wrong about that. His strength is something I worry about. If we put Barnett opposite of Suggs, IT'S ON! lol I can't wait to watch our defense

There's 5 players ( Pierce, Urban, Davis, Henry, & Kaufusi) with 2 spots available , so whoever earns the starting jobs will deserve them.

To me the early favorites are Urban and Pierce I hope these guys all push each other  to be great.

In the past I've read similar things about D.Tyson, KLM and even C.Davis his rookie year, so I'm just hoping potential and expectations can meet and turn into production and consistency.

So we all know BWill is going to anchor the middle. Between the other 4, I really could see them all splitting time pretty evenly on the field and I think that would be great. Though if Pierce improves his stamina, I want to see him on the field as much as possible. I'm really excited about Henry. I think he can be a better version of Timmy. I was always a big fan of Carl Davis, and it sounds like he might finally be ready. I remember draft analyst saying how the Lions might take him in round 1 to replace Suh. Then Kufasi has serious potential, but we've all heard that word before. I think he'll be a 3rd down pass rush specialist this year, and we'll get a glance if he can turn into anything more in the process. Urban is really solid and brings a different dimension. I kind of see him as taking Guy's role as a very good run defender. But he also provides height and length at the line to knock down passes. We've all seen him do some damage on field goal blocks too. Hopefully Carl steps up so we can stack him and Urban when we want height out there.
The best part about all of this, and trading Timmy, is that all of these guys are going to get a chance to strut their stuff. And I truly think all of them can be at least very good players for us. I think Timmy was overrated as well, and moving up 25 spots in this draft, especially where we did is Massive! I'm thrilled about the trade and didn't think it would actually go down. Luckily everyone is operating as if they're on the hot seat.
I sincerely think we're going to add an OLB with one of our first 2 picks. I think we're looking at Takk and Barnett. And we always add at least 1 big man in the draft, or right after.
Depending on how this draft goes, and the rest of FA, I think the FO is building the # 1 Defense for next year. And frankly, even if our offense looks similar to last year, I won't care, if our defense takes another large step forward. Not only will we have awesome talent at every position, but we'll also have depth. If we add Takk or Barnett, I think we'll be 1 vs the run, and have a top 3 secondary.
DT: Pierce/ Henry
NT: BWill/ Carl Davis
DE: Urban/ Kufasi
OLB: Sizzle/ Z
OLB: Takk/ Judon
ILB: Mosely/ KC
ILB: P.O./ draft pick
CB1: Jimmy/ Tavon/ Canady
CB2: Carr/ Tavon/ draft pick
CB3 (slot): Tavon/ draft pick/ Webb?
SS: Jefferson/ P.O./ draft pick
FS: Weddle/ Webb?/ draft pick

That looks like a number defense to me. Nobody should be able to run on that at all. Essentially replacing Webb with Tony is going to make the biggest difference with our run defense. Not to mention it's kicking Weddle back to FS most of the time, and even though Eric is a sure and good tackler, Tony is better, and a better blitzer.
And Suggs got hurt last year. If we combine a healthy Suggs ( probably a very motivated year for him, considering it's likely his last) with Takk or Barnett, our pass rush will be miles ahead of where it was last year. Z and Judon are awesome back ups. And we'll see if Kufasi can play the McPhee role on third downs. I don't think there will be a drop of at all losing Timmy. Not to mention we have a much better pick because of it, in the best draft I've ever seen. And I think it's clear we'll draft a pass rusher early.
In which case the open ILB spot is the only question mark. And as weird as it sounds, I think that's just about the easiest spot to fill on the defense, without spending a lot, or a high pick on it.(example-Orr) Especially, considering they'll be playing next to Mosely, and right in the middle of a bunch of ridiculously awesome players. I feel confident with P.O., K.C., or a draft pick from the 3rd round on taking that spot. Not to mention I have a feeling Ozzie is eyeing Foster. If we went Foster, and then Carl Lawson, our Defense would not only be back to the best, but it would be back to being completely feared. And for good reason. I can't wait for this draft, and I can't wait to watch our defense.

Dumb ole Ravens should have kept Kerringgan and made him playout his contract. He would have to play at his best for toget a good contract from whatever team he goes to. Why did the Ravens do that, I will never understand. OMG

Cuz Jernigan is way overrated
We have other dline guys that are just as good
And that 74 pick is like a 44 pick in a normal draft. This class is beyond loaded.
It was a great trade, if we use the pick well

Jeez that's a lot to take in.  I understand having some optimism but dial it down a bit until we've at least seen some preseason snaps with this defense.

Upfront we've only seen B.Will, Urban & Pierce, while I'm sure at least one of three Kaufusi, Henry or Davis will step up and contribute, I can't throw praise their way just yet.  Henry was a 4th round pick and he essentially got beat out for playing time by Pierce an undrafted rookie FA.

The team decided to not even bother taking C.Davis off of IR when he was healthy, they decided to bring back Elam instead. Sure we could say hey the secondary had needs and that would suffice for an answer but still.

I do believe a veteran and/or draft pick will be added into the mix..

I'm all for praising M.Judon but Z.Smith took three steps backwards last year. His pass rush was nonexistent most of the time, his edge setting is average at best I was really disappointed in his development for his sophomore season.

He definitely needs to get stronger at the point of attack and work on more pass rush moves.
