[News] Ravens Still Confident They Can Draft A Deserving Cornerback In Early Rounds

18 posts in this topic

Mosley has been good to excellent, but as a whole, I tend to really not like Alabama players, due to the track record. They have a large number of players drafted and very few of them translate to the pro game as break out difference makers. I hope they go with a pass rusher who actually fits the scheme, or DB. With Jimmy Smith's durability issues, DB should be an extreme priority. If they pass over several quality corners to instead select a WR again, they will be looking at constant exploitation in the defensive passing game if any injuries resurface.

Think this is a bit of a myth though. They typically churn out at least 1-2 high quality NFL players every year, which is pretty strong. I think this perception is applied to them because they're getting at least 7-8 guys drafted every single year.

Some drafts are better than others, obviously.

2011 had three exceptional players in it (Dareus, Julio, Ingram)
2012 had some quality players (Kirkpatrick, Barron, Hightower)
2013 was a down year
2014 had Mosley but probably not much else
2015 had Amari Cooper and Landon Collins, two stud players

So could a lot of other teams. Hindsight doesn't accomplish anything.

Starting to lean towards drafting a CB of one of the top 2 are available in the first round.

if not, wait till the third because we have two good picks and the quality from the 5th best to the 15th best CB are almost identical.

so many guys with elite physical traits but need some developing

PFT had an article that said the Ravens are close to a deal to bring Lardarius Webb back in some capacity. Not sure how I feel about that where I love Webb I just don't know that there is much there to help us. However, if he can be gotten for a vet minimum, his ability to field punts might just be worth that.

I just found out about Moreau. There are a lot of CBs that don't even do the bench press. I think the rule of thumb for DBs is if you can't get to 8 your better off not doing it. I dont think Moreau bench would have increased or decreased his draft spot. I feel bad for the guy.

Let Carr play this year and Sidney Jones can be brought off the pup list in game 7 and slowly introduced back to game speed so he'll be ready to go next year. I think he's surely in play in round 2 for us. I don't think the Ravens take a chance on waiting for him till #74 of round 3 if they really want him in their plans...

Many fans wanted Collins. I did after a host on the fan turned me onto Collins. I watched some games and was convinced he would be drafted top20. And we wouldn't get him. When he was there at 26 i thought for sure he would be the pick. I told everybody that wanted him he would be drafted before we picked. He was definitely one of the more popular players of all the ravens fans I talked  draft with.

OK, and? Fans always want different players than the FO takes, because they think they know more about football than our FO or any FO does. Many fans hated the idea of us drafting Ray Lewis. This is nothing new.

All for getting new cornerbacks, but we have to trade off and older CBwho is always hurt and can not keep up with the competition. And also a very high paid CB. He is terrible!

I agree. Alabama players often get drafted higher than they should because they get so much attention and Ozzie sometimes likes his Bama guys to a fault. But I went and watched some Bama film and I really think this year is a different scenario. This Alabama class is probably the best they ever had. Certainly the best Iv seen. We're talking 7 guys that could go in the top 50!
