Post-Jernigan Mock

18 posts in this topic

With this mock I want to do something a little different while remaining realistic to player's value. Hence, I will include one realistic draft day trade.

**With a few teams in a pinch to acquire an elite RB, the Ravens receive multiple calls to move back to enable Dalvin Cook to go off the board at 16. The Giants and Bucs both make offers and we slide back three spots and acquire an additional fourth rounder.

With the 19th pick in the Draft the Ravens select,

G/T Forrest Lamp

I know that many people want us to take a top receiver or pass rusher, but I think M.Williams, Davis and Barnett are all taken. I see more value in holding out and taking this stud. Small school guy, yet his tape is nothing but impressive, especially against Alabama. He anchored well against Jonathan Allen and shut Tim Williams and Ryan Anderson out. They literally started targeting the opposite side of the line to get pressure because Lamp was giving them the business. Lamp is position versatile and can play at all 5 slots in a pinch, which will make our line borderline elite if we sign Mangold.

With the 47th pick, the Ravens select,

OLB Carl Lawson,

I wanted to go Tim Williams here but I think that he will come off the board before Lawson for a variety of reasons. Some think that this would be a stretch, but in a deep edge rusher class, I think Carl's injury concerns and semi-raw and stiff technique will have him in the middle of the second. Guys like Thomas, Barnett, Reddick, Watt, McKinley, Charlton and Williams will go first enabling us to get a seriously talented edge rusher who will add a smash mouth dynamic back to our pass rush.

With the 74th pick the Ravens select,

CB Sidney Jones,

In perhaps the deepest CB class in a decade, a once top 15 pick will slide right back into purple and black in the third. I personally believe Ozzie was motivated to make the trade up to target a specific player and no one quite makes sense like Sid Jones does. In any other year I think despite the injury he would go top 50 easily, but with so much talent that will still likely be there in the second round at CB such as Lewis, White, King, Awuzie, Jackson, Witherspoon, Tankersley, Sutton, etc., Jones arrives here and rehabs for 10 weeks on the PUP list and emerges as a critical piece in our defense for the post-season.

With the 78th pick, the Ravens select,

S/CB Desmond King

Talent wise, he is deserving of going in the first round. The downfall is he doesn't project too well at CB and doesn't have experience at safety. That's alright though, King is a physical play maker and he knows how to get the job done. He will be a versatile piece early on until Weddle slows down and we eventually move him out to safety. He adds few depth early on.

Speed this up a little here,

4th round:

RB Samaje Perine,

Smash mouth runner that allows us to go back to a power running scheme and gives us a great goaline back that can be deployed on those short yardage downs.

WR Isaiah Ford,

The combine might have dropped his stock, yet he is a shifty receiver that could play well in the slot for us.

5th round:

Ejuan Price- a Dumervil/Harrison clone who projects to a be a straight-line rusher that wins in the leverage game.

6th round:

CB Channing Stribling,

Another CB to go into camp with. He has the ideal size needed and gets a recommendation from Jim at Michigan. He would be a potential project CB that could develop.

I like everything about it but why do we need perine? We already have west, Dixon and taliafero; we need a home run hitter not a bowling ball, we already have too many of those. Id much rather have marlon mack from usf

I forgot Lorenzo was still on the team! Lmao I'd probably look for Gallman from Clemson then.

This would be a good draft for us. Lamp would be a great addition to our offensive line. I really like the double dip on defensive backs in the third, hope fully King would still be there.

Gallman is the same thing though. He's another power back. Id prefer tj Logan or Marlon Mack

Lamp would make our line incredibly good. Pass protection on the left side would be borderline impenetrable. Lamp isn't quite a mauler in the run game but he opens up enough holes with the rare ability to anchor against the bull rush and has quick enough feet to keep the speed rushers at Bay.

Tali is basically not on the team with all his injury problems.

I saw a while ago that Harbaugh had mentioned Taliaferro as a potential Juice replacement (I guess because he played FB his first year at Coastal). Thats probably more of a bad sign for him than a good sign though.

Desmond King will be the steal of the draft. If he really falls to the 3rd like a lot of people say he will, which I don't buy, that team will be very happy.

I think the draft process makes everyone over analyze things. King is a play maker and has a high IQ. He tackles well and is a leader. I wouldn't even be mad with him in the second. If he came out last year I guarantee he would have been top 20. I don't think he will be a man coverage shut down kinda player, but I think in the right system he could be an opportunistic stud.

I still like him as a man corner from a pure coverage standpoint but the size could be an issue which is a shame because all he did at college was make plays

If I had to pick my favorite prospects throughout the entire process I would say I've always been a fan of King and Sid Jones.

I think with safety help over the top, he could be a real good corner. He has great route anticipation and is well aware when the ball is in the air.

Id be happy

My dream picks for this draft in no particular order are Jamal Adams, Rueben Foster, Jonathan Allen and Mike Williams. But I doubt any of these guys falls to us with the most likely being Williams. So, here's to hoping one of these guys slides and we jump on this guy by drafting a few spots up and grabbing them.

I know he has a similar build to Tali and Dixon, but he is far more powerful. The guy does not get denied. Yes, we do need lightning to go with thunder, but Dixon is suspended early, west is a one cut and go runner and woodhead will be the crisp route runner that gets nice 1st down pickups on third and medium range.

Perine is far more powerful and smash mouth than any back on our roster.

Yup, im glad you reminded me of him since i dont really watch CFB.  I think its time we cut ties with Tali, but maybe because of the suspension we will wait till Dixon comes back to actually cut him.  I wouldnt mind just throwing Woodhead into the slot, i advocating doing that with Rice when Pierce was looking good
