Has there been any buzz about moving any TE's via trade?  We have a glut of TE's and I'd like to get something for one or two of them, rather than cut them  since I doubt we carry 6 into the season.  Do any have trade value?

We have a surplus of solid TEs, but all of them have little to no trade value, excluding Williams - who's value is still pretty low.

Nobody is giving us anything for Watson because he's 36 and coming off a season ending injury. Nobody is giving us much for Pitta who's older and is a hit away from being out of the NFL completely because of those hips of his. Nobody is giving up much for Gillmore because he can't stay healthy beyond a game and a half at a time. Nobody is trading for Boyle who's one popped drug test away from being suspended for a season. Waller has been on our practice squad before and wasn't picked up, pretty much tells you all you need to know about his trade value. Williams is the only one that could really net us anything, but we're better off keeping him around because what we'll get isn't close to what we invested in him as a 2nd rounder and he's still got plenty of potential.

I don't think any of our TEs have trade value... especially the ones you'd be ok moving.

Besides, I think it may be realistic to keep them all. We thought we had a logjam last year too and then had Pitta and Waller as the only options for a majority of the season.

But if they look to use Boyle in the FB/HB role and don't sign/draft a FB then he can essentially take that roster spot.

And we don't currently have a ton of WR depth. Even assuming that Camp and Reynolds both make the roster, we'd be looking at 5 WRs as it stands with no draft picks, PS guys moving up or vet additions. I imagine we add at least 1 but don't think it's a lock that either Camp or Reynolds make the 53... so prob 5-6 WRs.

You can keep Waller as the 6th-7th WR and 5th TE bc of his flexibility and potential on ST.

So Pitta, Watson, Maxx and Gillmore. 3 didn't play much or at all last year and the other is a hit away from retirement at all times. That 4 could be 1 or 0 in the blink of an eye.

Not to mention I could see us using a lot of multiple TE groupings as a way to run more effectively while also having a good passing game. If we don't draft a high end WR or grab someone reliable like Boldin then we only have 1 dependable WR and 1 other with real starter upside; so we could do this as a way to get your best pass catchers on the field while also running the ball more effectively.

So if we're gonna do that we need more quality TEs that can do different things.

We could end end up keeping them all, but even if not we don't have the reliability to send off potential quality options before we know what we've got health wise.

And, we don't have anyone that would net value in a trade anyways.

Couldn't agree more. Boyle has more value as a fullback to us than a round7 pick he could return. He has sneaky speed and athleticism. Don't forget his junior year he was considered a round2 talent and round1 watchlist. He reportedly put on weight and wasn't as explosive his senior year. Then his rookie yr he looked like his jr yr again. Lost likes Jake Butt in round 3-4. He is a good tough blocker at 6'5 250. With about 4.65 speed. And he is shifty and crafty.

Now Boyle isn't my favorite pick to change the fullback position. I would like Everett Graham or Engram. Functional blockers to spring our run game. While having to be accounted for like WRs out of the backfield. And could carry the rock several times per game to really mix things. Could be Roger Craig of fullbacks. Functional blockers to spring the run game while having to be accounted for like a WR. First 1000 yard blocking fullback potential. However Boyle is more than adequate for this role. He is back to his junior season form.  He really surprised and impressed fans, coaches and broadcasters/analysts. For his routes, speed  and hands for a round5 rookie. He is far better than a checkdown receiver most blocking fullbacks are limited to. I'm sure he can lead block. He is an all around upgrade over Juice. A stronger blocker and natural WR.

Now you throw in a motivated Max Williams and Jake Butt.(or comparable player) The offense can run 2TE formations, Fullback:TE formation as well as 2TE/FB 2speedy WRs. And of course   an elite receiving RB into most of those formations. Now Jake Butt, Williams and Boyle aren't Gronk/Kielce. But all are good blockers . And good route runners with great hands with enough speed the defense has to account for big plays from any of the trio. Especially Jake Butt. He is a more explosive athlete than credited for.

Any of the TEs can beat most Linebackers and box out most safety's. And on run plays can seal off LB's and lineman to spring big runs from Dixon. Corey Davis in round one and Jake Butt in round 4 sounds like a plan.  Corey Davis,Perriman,Jake Butt,Dixon and Boyle is as good a set of weapons there is. On run plays Boyle and Jake will be productive blockers. And can block or catch on throwing downs to keep opponents guessing.

It would be nice to package all but one for a 2nd round pick and select   bucky Hodges.

Isn't there a shaky rookie GM in Jacksonville that we could exploit?......Carson, is his last name if I remember.

Could Gilmore do a Jason Peters and grow into a tackle?  He has big hands, long arms and is 6'6. I heard he bulked up to 275-280 after his rookie season with a 34 inch vertical and a 10' broad jump. He has a strong natural base. I would think he could get stronger as he grows into his new position. That is better raw athleticism than Garrett Bolles   Who isn't quite 300 lbs and projected to grow once drafted. And he is about Crocketts age.

The most impressive aspect of his game is his blocking power and is like trying to bring down a bull after the catch. Linebackers look like cornerbacks trying to tackle him if the linebacker gets no leverage.  It isn't likely but is he much different from round1 pick Bolles?

We have many and none of them are consistent or play particularly well.

The reason we have so many reflects upon how good the one's we have are.

So, in short, they have no trade value.

He definitely has the size and frame for it, and I do think he'd prefer tackle to tight end, but I think it's a little late in his career for that kind of a move. His blocking is also a bit overrated. He's just not very mobile and doesn't move his feet well.
