Jernigan TRADE to Eagles

40 posts in this topic

Curious thought... and doubtful..

I know we're much a hybrid front but could this facilitate a move to more 4-3?

Suggs is flexible enough to play DE and I could see Judon being a better fit as a traditional DE as well. Z might as well.

That could give Correa a more natural fit as a 4-3 OLB and a guy like Reddick then would give us a nice looking LB group with coverage ability, playmaking, blitz ability and pass rush.

And we could then play BWill and Pierce as our DTs.

Helps get more better players on the field... keeps us from relying on Urban/Kaufusi to start where they could rotate on the edge or kick inside in sub packages, etc...

Just a thought

Posted in the other Jernigan thread but will post it here since so many are saying the value was bad and would've been so much better if we got the Eagles 4th straight up without having to sacrifice our own pick.

According to the draft value charts:

74th pick - 220 pts

99th (our comp) + 112th (Eagles 4th) - 174 pts

So the pick swap has more value than if the Eagles let us keep our 3rd and gave us their 4th AND 5th.

And I expect that difference in value to be even more dramatic with the number of very highly rated players 75-80 deep.

It does have more value from a pure points perspective. On the other hand it's definitely less expensive for the Eagles to drop 25 spots and maintain a pick rather than giving up 2 in early day 3.

Perhaps, going for more picks rather than climbing up those spots would've given us ammos to trade up on draft day and get a better position in rd2. Picks we could've also simply used to double dip at Corner or Oline for example.

I think the move suggests that we're going to stay put and wait for another good player falling to the 3rd rather than using #74 in a trade up scenario.

Imagine, we trade up in the 1st with say, the Browns (#12, 1200pt) offering #16 (1000pt) and #74 (220pt), so basically our original #99 (104pt) and Jernigan. This is the case that makes the move less sensed and effective.

Finally, if Timmy was a free agent this year he wouldn't have gotten anything better than 6-7 M a year which makes it for a 4th round comp. This year the first comp pick in RD4 is #138 (37pt) and, well, that's much less than what we got by trading up those 25 spots (#74: 220pt-104pt of #99= 116pt).

So, by looking at it from another angle I'm coming to the same @BOLDnPurPnBlacK conclusion. It was a good deal, for both the sides.

One other thing to keep in mind is the free agency spending the Ravens have been doing. If we got a good free agent the year we lost Jernigan, we might not have gotten any comp.

And in general, I think people are deluding themselves if they think we could have gotten a third or fourth straight up for Jernigan. Just moving up nearly a whole round worth of picks was better than what we'd normally get.

Absolutely true. A lot would depend on 2018 FA and how Timmy would've played his last year. He has very good potential as a pass rusher, that's ubdebiable, but he might have as well underperformed.

Heck, we don't even know his medical report, whether he's likely to get injured or if he's going to have PEDs violation or off the field troubles any time soon. Sure, extreme cases and I seriously wish him well but we fans tend to underestimate the amount of informations we're not given and that can affect these kind of moves' value drastically. At first glance when I read the head line O was shocked and thought it wasn't worth it but then made a few counts and realized it all makes sense.

I'm cool with the trade. I would have preferred to trade our round4 and something else like a round 5 or a pick next yr. And have 3 round3 picks in this draft to use for trading up or stockpiling young players picked in the top 99 in this draft. Management can move up into the top10 of the draft.

If ravens move up it has to be targeting a WR unles a top5 player slides. Jonathan Allen didn't test all that well and is projected to slide a little. He would be a brilliant replacement for Jernigan.

So far there isn't a replacement on the team. Pierce flashed. But not as much as Jernigan did his rookie campaign. Henry is a wildcard. After he was drafted I read on here several times about his raw athleticism was superior to Jernigans. Like his 40 time predraft was 4.8-4.9 range at whatever it is he weighs. But thus far he is an athlete. He is not a polished player with any rush, stack and shed moves.

I doubt the Eagles would have accepted that trade. The talent drop off after 70 in most drafts is pretty terrible. Luckily this is a deep draft and the Ravens have 4 of the top 78 players coming off the board.

Nothing against Jernigan, I really loved the pick back in the day, but he showed he cannot be a consistent player. When coaches call him out on his work ethic you know why they traded him. 1 sack and 8 tackles or whatever it was in the last 8 games of the season is easily replaceable.

I am happy the team signed the consistent guy. I don't care if he hasn't had a history of getting to the quarterback, he is one of the best if not the best run stuffer in the NFL. Players will step up a lot of mid round draft picks invested over the years at the position.

Don't care if he gets to the QB? Williams was inconsistent as well. But nothing like Jernigan! Davis is a bust thus far. Henry is a great athlete but needs a lot of coaching up if he is to be a productive player. Wouldn't rule out trading up for Allen if he slides. He was in the conversation for top pick in the draft from Alabama

i dont want him because if he's fallen to anywhere within range then his shoulder is probably an issue - its unfortunately a catch 22 where the only way he becomes available is if he isnt worth the pick we'd make to get him
