Trade back a way to fix the o-line

6 posts in this topic

I was really thinking about how we could try and get good value and production that fills needs now and in the future. I think to do this, an option I like, is to trade back 7 or so places for a late 2nd.

1st.                 Forrest Lamp

Our 2nd.        Sidney Jones

Trade 2nd.     Curtis Samuel

3rd.                  Ethan Pocic

Comp 3rd.      Anthony Walker Jr.

After that it's hard to even keep picking, but the point is, with a trade back I think there's great value and a chance to fix the offensive line which is the main priority in my opinion.

in all trade back scenarios i think the hardest thing to be able to judge is who would want to jump up to our spot because so many teams know, just like we do, that this is a deeper draft and therefore one to gather as many high picks as possible - i would be incredibly surprised if we managed to obtain another 2nd rounder in a trade back given the depth of the class - i think you're right that a trade back is the most likely avenue for getting an offensive lineman at a value spot but i dont see a team that would trade up to get ahead of the redskins, titans, bucs, broncos etc. - only if a team was convinced that the redskins were going to take a qb that they coveted could i see a trade with the redskins - a team who i dont think is taking a first round qb anyway and im not sure that more than 1 of the top 4 qbs will go before that pick anyway (if any at all) - so a team that's trading up to this area is likely trying to get ahead of the bucs for a running back in which case they might as well trade with the titans who are probably also interested in a bounty of picks or for an offensive lineman ahead of the broncos which they might as well trade back with the bucs/titans - and given that we ourselves would probably be targeting one of the top 2 lineman (robinson/lamp) then it is dangerous for us to trade back behind the broncos anyway - i just think the trade back is unlikely from both sides given that unless no qbs and only leonard fournette go ahead of us i still think there are guys who will be there that we would happily take at 16

the dilemma simplified: 1) we would want to trade back if there are less reaches than expected ahead of us and therefore more qbs/rbs are available after our pick 2) unfortunately this situation would make trading back less likely to find any suitors because the qbs and rbs are the most likely reasons for teams behind us to want to trade up 3) if qbs, reaches and/or multiple rbs go ahead of us then a dynamic player who we wouldn't want to pass on would be available at 16 for us to pick

Trade back seems inevitably if the draft goes as expected. Offensive line will be addressed I think. Likely with two interior guys while we kick out Lewis to RT.

Ideally we make a trade back to 19-22 and get at least another 3rd or fourth. If Cam, Ramcyzk or Lamp was there, I'd be on board. If not I'd actually like a rusher like Tim Williamd then taking Elflein or Feeney in the second if there then taking Moton or asiata in the third.

i see this too and yet i keep seeing so many draftniks who seem to think that there are some teams ahead of us who are enamoured with qbs and dont think they'll last to the second round - i saw a couple of reports that the chiefs and texans were in love with mahomes but that they'd probably have to trade up into cardinals range in order to get him, ive heard reports that both the browns and jets really like trubisky, and that the giants and cardinals are really searching hard for successors/insurance to palmer and manning - if its true that the eagles really like mccaffrey as well (even ahead of dalvin cook) then a lot of good prospects are going to be pushed back - and it only takes a couple of these to happen for prospects to drop into our laps - it's always the case that qbs are overdrafted and as much as i dont like this qb class i dont see why it wont be the case here as well - especially as teams will overdraft later in the draft as well hoping to find the next dak - i dont know who will fall but i really think that someone we rate highly will be there at 16
