[News] Late For Work 4/3: Top Options To Address Ravens' Five Biggest Needs

"Do you remember who the Ravens’ opponent was when they played their first game after relocating to Baltimore in 1996?
To tell you the truth, I didn’t remember either,
"

Sarah, please tell me you're joking. I've only been a simple Ravens fan for roughly ten years, and even I know that - I could even tell you the result and walk you through Ray Lewis's first ever NFL INT in the endzone... just by being a simple Ravens fan.

I'm more than sure you were just joking there :)

I especially liked the boat-prank because it doesn't frighten anyone. While Bell's one as real good too, no denying that - it presumeably brought some unaware steelers-fans on the brink of a heart-attack :)

Russel Street Report also did a great job. My favourite part:

"Given the dearth of talent at center in the 2017 NFL Draft, most assumed that Nick Mangold would have been signed by now, but the 7-time Pro Bowler and 3-time All Pro is still looking for a new employer. The longer Mangold remains available, the lower the asking price, and then, perhaps he fits Ozzie’s credo, “right player, right price.”

BUT…

The native of Ohio comes from a family of lifelong Browns fans who despise the Ravens. If it was earlier in Mangold’s career and the dollars were bigger, such loyalties might be overlooked. But given the relatively modest salary that the former Jet is likely to command, upsetting the family dinner table on Thanksgiving by becoming a Raven, isn’t worth it to Mangold.

And then there’s this…

During a recent Locked on Jets podcast, Mangold was asked about the possibility of going to Baltimore following the departure of Jeremy Zuttah. Mangold shot down the idea saying, “Besides my family’s disdain for the Ravens, there’s Marty Mornhinweg. I played in his system for two seasons in New York and when the Jets parted ways with him, I offered to take him to the airport just to make sure he was leaving
.”

LOL :D

"The league still has to announce whether the AFC West will face either the AFC North or AFC South in 2020"

Do they? Isn't the rotational schedule a fix one? Don't each division go through each AFC and NFC division in the same order, cycle after cycle?

We lost a good RT and a good WR (SSS). So if our first two rounds are RT & WR, have we made any progress? We are just where we left off last year.

I think we are trying to wait until May 9th to sign either Mangold or Boldin bc then they will not count against the comp pick formula.

BC we are light years ahead on defense....

BC Offensively we will have both Gilmore and Watson back healthy and we brought in Woodhead - who will generate a lot of YAC. and the 3 of them can really move the chains.

BC Yanda will be healthy this year

BC We will draft at least 1 WR (and possibly more) and probably bring another WR in (Boldin?)

BC We will draft at least 1 OL (and possibly more) and may still bring another in after May 9th (Mangold?)

BC Greg Roman will demonstrate that his history of success is not by accident.

and Finally bc guys like Ronnie Stanley, Alex Lewis, BPerriman, and Kenneth Dixon will all have a season under their belt of NFL experience and will be able to contribute more as a result this season!

I'd still like to see Ravens take a look at Deandre Levy I think he could be a better version of Daryl Smith. I also believe if Rey Malauga is healthy he is a thumper in the middle that could really help this defense.

I don't expect us to sign either.

In terms of Boldin, I don't think he has any interest in signing with anybody until like June/July at the earliest. He didn't even sign with the Lions until late July last season. He has zero interest in going through an off-season program with a team.

Mangold could easily be looking at the same type of thing, and there's nothing I've seen so far to indicate we are interested in him or that he's even good.

I don't think Flacco is elite but I do believe if he had the weapons like Ryan, Big Ben, Luck, Carr, Dalton and those guys, we would be considering him as an elite QB. We need to do a better job at drafting receivers. We bring in a really good 1k receiver and a DB that's durable on defense, I think we can make a run in the playoffs.

Whats sad Ravens search all those years trying to find a QB and when they finally get one they can't give him time, consistency, continuity, or play makers. Fans want so much to get this team out of a ditch it hurts.

Mangold could easily be looking at the same type of thing, and there's nothing I've seen so far to indicate we are interested in him or that he's even good.

I do think that we have expressed an interest in re-signing Boldin and it may not be until june or july- just not before May 9th.

I think you are right on the Mangold thing... I think it is a match up that makes sense on paper but less in reality... at the same time we could use a veteran C and mangold fits that bill so- I can see why the media has linked him to BMORE...

either way... we did let Zuttah go and I am not sure that Jensen is an upgrade over Zuttah? IDK - but if not... that means that we have to be looking to add someone

the draft is thin at C and that leads me to think FA but money is tight. I think the Timmy J trade may actually come to fruition - if not we will have to free up cap space for sure.

It would take along time to mention all the Pro Bowl and Hall of Fame Receivers those Quarterbacks had to throw to in their "Prime". Its very easy for Joe None. Steve Smith should be in the Hall of Fame in 5 years but he was 35 when he got Here. Also, Anquan Bolden 30 and Derrick Mason 31 when they got here.

LOL.... I hear you though... I do get nervous about the holes that we have... I just don't remember ever having that many... but with that said... Mr. Biscotti and staff - usually does to a great job at addressing the teams needs.

So while I believe that this will play out similar.... I am with you when I say that I get nervous about it also...

Levy, CJ, Suggs and Judon would make a nice starting unit. Melauga is intriguing. He shows signs of being a super star but has been inconsistent and injury prone but if he could be healthy... I like the energy and attitude that he brings....

I would have really like to see us bring Zach Brown in to play beside CJ!

I am with you.... I do not think that Dalton is elite.... without AJ Green he looked avg at best.... Carr and Luck do seem to be a step above and they can win games

Ben has elite ability but also has and elite ego and his ego has lost Pittsburgh more big games then he has won them over the past 5 years.

Ryan is not Joe... Julio makes any QB look elite... and MattyIce has always had great WRs (and TE)

Joe has proven that if you give him time and half way decent weapons... that he can win the whole thing for us.

We need to re-build that OL and add in a play making WR and Joe will have weapons. (Perriman and Wallace can take the top off of any defense. WE have great TEs and a lot of them. We have woodhead who will chew up yardage and if we can add a JuJu or a DeDe Westbrook, Corey Davis, Mike Williams type of WR in the draft.... Joe will have weapons) the addition of some sure handed WR like Boldin who can roam behind the LBs could be a very large asset... but Joe will have some weapons by the time season starts. (look at the super bowl year- Boldin, Torrey, Pitta, Rice... those were the weapons... we can put that and more on the field this year).

the key is keeping him protected- Joe has to have time and have a clean pocket. Stanley, Alex Lewis and Yanda are a good chunk of that starting 5 but we really do probably need 2 more OLmen.

My gut says WR or Pass Rusher at #16, can the draft get here already?

Pass rusher.... unless Davis or Mike Williams falls.

At the end of the day Ozzie and Co. will have "ANOTHER" success draft but like people are saying around the league "The Ravens have the weaponry it's the QB that is suspect"! We have a Super Bowl caliber team and Ozzie and Co. will pad their pockets like they do every year with talent and i can't wait to see the players they get this year!

I don't know where all these players are coming from. We only have one first and one second rounder and we're going to draft a top notch WR, DE, ILB, OT and CB. Dream on. Just get the first two right.

That's a question only you can answer. Maybe some highly unintelligent fan blog or listening to quacks on ESPN and thinking they know anything.

On you bud. Not on me.
