McDowell seems like more of an under the radar pick to me at this point....for us at least.

Have we met with the guy?

Love his versatility....he's a guy that can keep Brady from being able to step up...maybe THE guy in this class.

You guys REALLY think they take this guy at 16?

I have seen no indications that we like him, but he probably represents the biggest turnaround for us out of all realistic guys at 16

yeah i get that - of course he could end up sliding down to the 2nd round etc. but if we pick him in the 1st then I'll be able to get behind the pick just because i'll feel pretty reassured that the front office has squared away the off the field/mental concerns

as long as they had a good meeting with him - i dont think mcdowell is someone we'd draft without assuaging those concerns - does anyone know if we met with him at the combine at all?

Edit: i just looked at the meetings thread and the great point made there was that we've never consciously not interviewed our first round selection - and i checked through the list and mcdowell isnt there - so unless we met him at the combine (sounded like combine interviews didnt go great anyway - unless that's a smokescreen), or we have him scheduled to come in (which is entirely possible) then I don't see it happening

He was literally a one man wrecking ball. It's one thing to be a guy like Jonathan Allen and be surrounded by an NFL caliber front 7 and have a great year, but it's another to be one of the only guys on your team that's consistently disruptive and still be great.

There is no way in hell a talent like that who is almost certain to be there isn't gonna interview at some point. He's gotta be on our radar, especially after trading jernigan

Dion Dawkins the OT/G from Temple... he wouldn't name the team... but at the combine a team exec asked him how long can you go without blinking?

Then they tested him on it. 

After he did it... they were like, are you satisfied with that time? Or do you want a chance to go again?

They told him the record was something absurd... like 20-30 minutes.... and I can't settle on whether they were testing his competitive nature - his desire to improve/try and beat the record -- or seeing if he was easily manipulated to do something stupid against his will.

I cannot wait until this 2 and a half week period is over.  We've officially hit my least favorite part of draft season, which is the period of useless speculation.  Too many people overthinking things - reading into who has and hasn't visited, who the FO didn't talk about in the presser, and who the current flavor of the week is.  None of it ends up mattering.

Why is McDowell the hot name all of a sudden?  I get we traded Timmy but I wouldn't read into things too much.  Supremely talented player but a ton of question marks that come along with him.  I would not be considering him at 16 at this point.

Just going back and looking at the tape again. Also because voch lombardi seems to love him so we brought him up again and his character ussues dont seem to be as big an issue as everyone makes it out to be.

So. Alll hes paid to do is play football. Ray lewis didnt have a very good wonderlic score yet that didnt matter.

I think my bigger issue is that he's fall under the typical "group think" thing we have around here.  One person starts to like a player and suddenly, tons of other people seem to join in.

I agree. 

The talent/upside is obvious... but I need a sure thing at 16.

 

Not to mention... when suddenly the hype on a guy doesnt start until a cpl weeks before the draft, but hes been a clear and obvious available option the whole process -- what suddenly changed?

He hasnt put any new tape out. Hasnt tested differently.

Most likely someone in the media put out a new opinion on him, or film session with their take.... and now everyones taking it as gospel.

 

His physical ability was always apparent. But too many question marks, and far too inconsistent imo. Want no parts of that at 16, and doubt we will. Maybe as a trade back, or trade up in the 2nd. 16's just far too rich for my blood.
