Year 2/3 potential breakout players

118 posts in this topic

Ravens have some young talent that could be primed for a breakout. Some of the guys we drafted in the last 2 years are the future of this team. We have perriman, maxx, Davis, ZDS, correa, kaufusi, Judon, young, Lewis, Dixon, Henry, pierce, Wesley, nembot, Moore, all guys who really decide the fate of the franchise.

My personal choice for the breakout star player, maybe not a huge impact guy right away but by the end of the year he could be well on his way to being a household name, is Matt Judon. He showed some wisdom beyond his years on the field, he's an NFL ready body, got some NFL ready technique, and his only shortcoming is burst and stamina, 2 things that can be improved through the same means. Let Judon do some more NFL conditioning and he could gain a step and keep that motor going for 4 quarters and he will be a beast. He's a 3 down OLB and he's getting his shot now with doom being gone.

Who is your breakout guy for this year?

Perriman! He's in a starting roll and should get between 7 and 10 targets a game. I would say Waller if he was a starter. Flacco is a better passer between the numbers and with he's size and speed would be a mismatch for any Linebacker or Safety.

I agree you could tell Perriman was catching on near the end of the season. He was 4 of the top 10 plays for the Ravens based off of NFL Network with his limitd role and he slowly started catching on, and had a couple good catches that were barely out of bounds.

I would love Waller to get more play time his size and speed I think benefits the offense more than Pitta to be honest. I wonder if the Ravens use Pitta more in the slot like they used to when the Ravens won the Super Bowl back in 2012/2013. He cannot block at all.

The one player I hope really breaks out though is Maxx Williams. He showed flashes as a rookie, but was injured and looked lost last year early in the process.

Perriman will most likely be the breakout star IF they are serious about putting him out there opposite Wallace.

On defense, Judon really is a great pick.  He has the pass rushing technique and should be able to get to QBs well enough.  If the secondary can hold for just one second longer, Judon may have a big year.

My wildcard will be Kaufusi.  He has a chance to step into Guy's old position if he can beat out Urban.  We haven't seen enough of him at the pro level so he's a wildcard with potential

I wanna say perriman as well but I think that ones too easy lol. Thinking outside the lines with Judon. I think perriman is gonna be a star and that people should open their eyes before bashing him. He was a 4th option behind smitty Wallace and pitta and still had a season on par with some of the elites rookie years, and did so with no training camp and coming off of 2 injuries. I have very little doubt that a healthy perriman will be the receiver we have longed for.

But after discussing Judon in another thread it kinda prompted me to throw his name in there in particular. I think he's gonna be a damn good 3 down edge guy. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pass 8 sacks this year while also being a very good run defender

I'll be diferent and say that Correa or Young will have a breakout year. I also think that Maxx will have a breakout year after getting healthy.

Maxx and Kaufausi are my two picks.

I feel like Perriman won't necessarily have a "breakout year", but rather will adapt well to his role as a full time starter.

Maxx on on the other hand is the most talented TE in the roster and flashed his rookie year, and showed his improvement as a blocker last season. If he can step up and win the starting job, that could be huge for us going forward.

Bronson is the most athletic dude in the front 7 and has game. If he can stay healthy there's a chance he becomes our best pass rushing defensive lineman, as well as a good run stopper.

But if if you don't count Bronson as a breakout player I'll go Judon. While I don't think he will ever be a #1 edge rusher he has a high ceiling as a #2(damn good value in the 5th round). I could easily see him getting 6-8 sacks and a fair amount of pressures

Max Williams. Matt Judon and Chris Moore. Everybody wants it to be Perriman. But to be honest Chris Moore gives what Harbaugh is looking for. That fast early and intermediate separation maybe

I wouldn't say young is different, I think he's one of the first to come to mind for most. Correa is different though. I personally think that once correa finds a role and gets time to get comfortable in it, he'll be a dog, but how long it will take is the mystery to me. I think he'll bring optimism for year 3 and follow up with a break out season, just don't think he's quite there yet

Outside Perriman who i think should go without saying between the potential hes shown coupled with opportunity...

I think Pierce is going to become a beast this year... whether we trade Jernigan or not I could see Pierce really pushing him for time as both an early down run stuffer that can penetrate, but also a 3rd down guy that can get to the QB.

Have high hopes for Kaufusi. Could see him making a big impact.

And I think Dixon could end up with a David Johnson-esque type of game once he gets on the field consistently.

I would agree that Matthew Judon could really step up this year, he was impressive on defense. I expect to him to cut down on his special team penalties.

If we get our tight end situation straight I think Maxx Williams  could break out this year. He has a good season as a rookie and hopefully he can stay healthy this year after falling to the injury bug last year.

I also think Patrick Onwuasor could surprise this season.

Linebackers Coach Dan Martindale believes if Correa can come to training camp in shape he could be in line for a big year, so I'd have to go with him as my breakout in year 2

Dixon is gonna come back and get over a thousand rushing.

In fact we gonna need quite a few of our 2/3 guys to have breakout seasons or we finishing behind Clev .

Correa might be a disappointing edge rusher but he can be special as an ILB. He plays so damn fast and relentless and with complete disregard for his body. He's just a dog, he just has to get his technique cleaned up and learn to use his body better, take on blockers at an angle rather than head on etc.

Well we want to run the ball more and what I seen at the end of the season he's more than capable imo. It's breakout :D

Forget that. He's gonna bring the single season rushing record in 12 games. Average 200+ yards on the ground. Break LTs single season TD record, and then break Marshall faulk career high in receiving yards

Have you ever seen Barry Sanders play? McCaffery is not in his league.

Basically will be his rookie year, so I'm not expecting much from him.

Considering we're pretty stacked w/ veteran talent on defense, I'm hoping a young gunner has a breakout year on offense.

Perriman, Maxx, and IF he can stay healthy Campanaro all could provide the Off with a nice boost.

I don't expect much from BK myself. I didn't love his tape, I saw obvious potential but a lot of work that had to be done. He was all motor and athleticism and was surprisingly weak for a man his size

IMO, I like Boyle's play over Maxx.  If he can stay away from the pills, I think he can be on par w/ Heap and Pitta.

It's his job to lose due to the fact ravens prefer their linebackers big and fast as opposed to Patrick Onwuasor who is much smaller

How is predicting that our suspended running back having easily the greatest statistical year for a skill position player ever crazy? I'd say it's rather sane compared to half the stuff posted on here? :P

I totally agree about BK. He is not strong at all for a guy his size. I mean, where is he going to play? He isn't nearly strong enough to play on a 3-4 line. And he failed miserably at rush lb on college scene.

For a breakout Dixon and Stanley is pretty obvious. I like Moore and Judon as well. But the real breakout star is Guard Alex Lewis. The guy understands blocking and positioning. He is growing yet Harbaugh said. Harbaugh seems more excited about the 6'6 320lb guard than any young player. He is athletic enough to handle penetrators and nasty enough to handle bull rushers. I picture him a smarter version of Alex Boone. Alex Lewis is breaking out. You can count on.

Correa or Perriman I hope both but I think one could have a break out year. Both guys are in a position of need on the roster with more plays on the field each guy has a real chance to shine. That being said with Sizzle getting older and Doom gone a OLB guy could really have a break out year. I know this is about 2 / 3 year guys but Rookies could have a break out year because I think at a lot of these positions there is going to be some open competition at least that's what I am hoping for.
