26 posts in this topic

Head Coach John Harbaugh said other teams are interested in Timmy Jernigan because they see the depth the Ravens have on the defensive line. Harbaugh feels like Jernigan is 'going to have the best year of his career, without question.'

I wonder why there aren't more player for player swaps: Jernigan for a Wide Receiver of comparable value. Draft picks are tricky things to trade unless they are being traded for other draft picks.

Its hard to get a team to agree to trading a wide receiver for a defensive lineman of the same value straight up because the positions are not equally valued as is represented by the franchise tag cost of the different positions. Jernigan is considered a defensive Tackle not a Defensive end like Suggs who would be considered an end because of being in a 3-4. To take into consideration the value of Jernigan to get a receiver that another team would be willing to trade, wouldn't be of sufficient value to the Ravens. To trade Jernigan would get a player along the lines of a Kamar Aiken, which to the Ravens would not be a good trade. That is why player trades come in the form of draft picks because every GM thinks they can find a diamond in the rough who they can lock into a 5 year low cost contract as a draft pick.

i would rather keep him this year and let walk next year for a comp pick. he's going to play his heart out this year because he wants the big check. no sense in letting him go, when someone with that type of determination can help us get back into the playoffs

If teams are legitimately interested in Timmy, then they need to step up to the plate. Anything less than 2nd round doesn't make sense for us, and I'm not so sure our FO is ready to admit they won't be able to afford him next year. Besides, he's gonna be a beast this year on a rookie contract.

I think your overvaluing him with a 2nd round pick, we will be lucky to get a 3rd for him since you can get Sheldon Richardson for a 4th. I wouldnt mind keeping him to play out this contract year knowing he will give 100% but no way do i see us paying him next year. We have a lot of depth on the Dline and will be adding another guy in the draft.

Don't trade him for less than a 2nd-rounder (his draft position). Get another season of affordable performance at the position (with some interior pass rush upside). If we choose not to overpay to keep him next year and he lands a big contract, we may get a 3rd-round comp pick.

I don't think they have to admit that we wont be able to afford him next year. It is a given. If we didn't pay BWill than it would be a possibility, but its not going to happen, I would take a 3rd for him but I don't think there is a team that would give that up. I agree I think we should keep him this year and I also think he is going to have a banner year. But if there is any tiny tiny tiny hope of us keeping him, a "beast" year would certainly put him out of reach.

There have to be a lot of coincidences that play into player for player swaps, especially when it involves players that are capable starters.  Each team has to have excess players at one position that the other team doesn't have and at the same time be deficient at the position that the other team has an excess in,  When you are just trading a pick, one team has to have excess talent and one team has to have a deficiency in talent at a certain position.  Those type of situations are much more common.  The other thing that is more complicated in player to player swaps is that the current contract of each player has to be taken into account.  And because of all of those variables a lot of the times it isn't a 1 for 1 trade. Usually some picks are exchanged as well.

Yea Im a big Timmy fan too.  I like his sack dance.  For the most part he had it under control last year, but his first two years the guy would wear himself out dancing after a big play, He toned it down a bit this year and  better conditioning also probably played a factor in his recovery time as well.  He is going to bring it this year.  He just has to keep his head on straight, stay away from the personal fouls and bring the heat.

Did anybody see Tabor's blazing 40 time at his pro day? LOL
But in all seriousness, I think that could be a Great thing.
My dream picks for the first couple rounds are:
Round One: Corey Davis
Round Two: Carl Lawson

But I'm starting to think Tabor is a super interesting option for our second pick. He ran a 4.75 forty today, which should drop him to the second round. And frankly, I don't care about the 4.75 at all. We have Young to play quicker and faster wrs, and we have Jimmy. Tabor's tape is enough for me.
It's also super funny to me how back when everyone was talking about Tabor as a potential top 10, even 5 pick, people were saying Desmond King is too slow to play corner and go in the first. Now King runs in the 4.5s, and Tabor ran a 4.75 at best at his pro day. Funny how crazy people go with times and the pre draft process.

This is related to Jernigan...and I know people will disagree with this, but just putting it out there.
Having said all that about Tabor as a possible 2nd round pick in the comment below.......
I 100% believe that Brandon Carr is a great addition. And I think he'll be with us for at least 2 years....In which case it's tough to spend a 2nd round pick on a corner when you have Jimmy, Tavon, and Brandon. Their styles all compliment each other so well too. Imo, this draft is too loaded to not fill large needs with the first few picks, because we can do so without really straying from bpa at the same time.
Imo, in addition to reading a lot of our comments all the time, I would say that at least 2/3 of our die hard fans are looking for a Pass Rusher very early for sure, then we're all also looking for a WR and Olineman. With some sprinkled cries for a RB. Which makes sense. Then we all want a cb, and the reasons for that are obvious. We don't even need to go there, but I think the addition of Carr has pushed that need down the line a little for some..SO, what am I getting at with all of this???? Combine those needs, with this Loaded draft, with this- I know a lot of fans don't agree, but I think we are right there with anyone. Roster wise at least. Our coaches- if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all right? So after this draft, I think our Roster will be just as talented as the Patriots, if not a hair more- we need to Land Ross or Davis for the more to happen.
So with all these needs, and being so close, if we moved Timmy for a 2nd or 3rd, we could fill an immediate need, for cheap, for now and years. Without creating a need as well. We have so many awesome bodies up front that need to be on the field. I like Timmy, but I also want to see Carl Davis, Urban, Pierce for sure, Willie Henry, Kufasi, and then of course BWill is holding down the middle. That's a ton of bodies. And in all honesty, I like Timmy as a player. but I think he's a little overrated. And I'm not even sure if there'd be a drop off from him, to the rest of the guys I listed- again, just my opinion. We have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds right now. If we added another low 2, or high 3 to that, we really could fill all our needs. I would bet anything that at least a handful of pro bowl players go in the 3rd this year. People that would normally go at the top of the 2nd.
So all in all, the chances are he stays with us. But I definitely think there plenty of reasons to trade him. If, we could get a second or a 3rd, I don't think a 4th would be worth it.

We're projected to have $46M in cap space next year, so we ought to be able to figure out how to keep Jernigan if he were a priority.

So, if you read all of that, here's my take quick take on how we could "fill all our of needs", with our 5 picks in the first 3 rounds ( 1 from Timmy).
Round 1- Barnett- Edge Rusher, and potential future Sizzle replacement
Round 2 D'Onta Foreman- 234lb rb that just ran a 4.5. Him paired with Dixon for Years would be a thing of beauty.
Round 2/3-Tiimy Pick- Ju Ju Smith- WR- the Ravens better draft this guy, he's exactly what we need
Round 3- Pat Elfein- Our awesome Center for the next 10 years
Round 3- I'll let Ozzie pick the Right Tackle ( wink emoji)

Again just throwing this out there. This draft is nuts

I guess what I was saying is that I'm comfortable overvaluing him for now because I imagine the comp pick next year will be a 3rd rounder anyway. At the cost we have him for right now and the fact he is going into a contract year, someone should have to blow our doors off before we let him go. If I were a Jets fan I would feel the same about Richardson. I like to stick with the known, especially when the payoff next year isn't so bad.

I like your mock but but we be missing out on those top corners. If we decided to wait until the 4th Round to draft a corner, most of the good ones will be already gone and Ozzie miss out.

Well I am assuming that they are going to try to get a deal with Mosley.  That money will go fast.  It just doesn't make sense to spend that much money on two interior lineman.

If we do want to trade TJ why don't we trade the bills for MLB Preston Brown? They both have 1 year left on their rookie deals, show potential to become plus players at their position and fill a need for both teams.
