SFLegend's Mock: Version 1.0

1. Round 1, 16th Overall Pick

John Ross WR, Washington

With the likes of Mike Williams, Reuben Foster, Marshon Lattimore, and Derek Barnett off the board Ozzie & co. deliver with the offensive weapon that fans have been clamoring for to aid Joe Flacco. In the mold of a Brandin Cooks, Ross is smaller WR with some big time playmaking ability. Some of the cuts and maneuvering he does with the ball in his hands is reminiscent of Antonio Brown (See TD against Cal). While Ross will likely be utilized in the slot as a rookie his world class speed and knack for the splash play will put him on the fast track for an ever expanding role on the offense. In addition he can return kicks and provide a spark there while he hones his craft at WR. His assertive alpha personality will be a breath of fresh air in what is otherwise a pretty timid and quiet WR group in the absence of SSS. Ross is a guy who will have his share of doubters at first but will quickly begin to silence him when he steps on the field.

Round 2, 47th Overall

Kevin King, CB, Washington

Here is the pick that leaves quite a few Ravens fans a little taken back at first. The Ravens take a corner from this great DB class however it's not Quincy Wilson, Teez Tabor, or even King's Washington teammate the injured Sidney Jones. King is a diamond in the rough standing at 6'3, long arms, and some pretty crazy ball skills for the position. King is a great complimentary piece to what will be a vastly improved secondary and he has all the physical tools to become the long term starter opposite Jimmy Smith. The upside for this kid is very high and we have the personnel to let him grow into the role naturally. (please give me brownie points for talking about a 6'3 corner without mentioning Richard Sherman lol)

Round 3, 78th Overall

Erik Magnuson, OT, Michigan

Here comes the Michigan pick per high praise from Jim Harbaugh. Magnuson, the first team All-Big-Ten RT takes over for Rick Wagner and provides pretty strong value in the middle of the 3rd. He's also started at Guard which provides some versatility for an OL that may have to be reworked throughout the year as the injuries begin to accrue.

Like the Ross pick. Really like it. Guy is a football player with elite speed. Not only a speed player. He creates separation and makes plays on the football. He and Moore could form a tandem that really puts defenses on their heels. Very fast route runners for intermediate separation.

I like the King pick as well. However we can do better than Magnuson in round3. He seems like somebody that will leave you wanting more. I like Eluemunor at that pick. He is a player that could hurdle his way through draft boards. He is freakishly strong without being a weight room warrior. And  his athleticism jumps out of the screen instantly.

Love the Ross pick! Imagine having Perriman, Wallace, and Ross...we'd have the fastest receiving core in world history haha. With those three on the field, it would tough for the opposing D to shut them down! And in case you're wondering about possession type guys, well, that's what our plethora of TE's are for. Williams, Gilmore, Boyle, Watson, Pitta, Waller can all be effective pass catchers, especially in rotation. I like moving Waller back to WR as a big-bodied possession guy.

I like the second round pick, but it's a toss up between Quincy Williams and King to me.

For our second round picks I think we'll go OLB and OL.

Dont like the idea of Ross with our 1st. Just dont want another guy whose main asset is speed. It's great, and could lead to an explosive offense -- but hes already got an extensive injury history, and speed is a trait that can diminish with injuries. He's more well rounded than most speed guys in that hes not a one dimensional, one-trick pony.... but take away the speed and the other traits arent worth a 1st round pick. Not even close.

King i actually do like. Great height, length, athleticism combo. Has a frame to actually fill out even more to where he could bully even the biggest, most physical receivers in the league. And great at tracking/denying the ball; especially deep. May not be a day 1 plug and play type of guy like some of the others, but we dont necessarily need that with Carr here and his upside is tremendous.

And Magnuson i actually like, but think its a bit early here. I like Moton and he could be around here... if Elflein is available im definitely going him here over the RT. I actually really like Jordan Morgan out of Kutztown in this range, maybe a little later, over Magnuson. 6'4", 310-320 lb dude, 4 yr starter at LT who probably projects better to guard but I think could play RT. Has great feet and is a nasty, mauling dude.

-2 for a perfectly reasonable mock. lol you guys are funny.

that's not a particularly objective viewpoint you have there... - you're probably getting negged because people would hate if these guys were our first 3 picks

If you hate picking Ross and King in the first two rounds your expectations are way too high for where we're picking. That's a very nice haul.

I would love to mock the likes of Mike Williams, Derek Barnett, and Marshon Lattimore to us but I just dont think those caliber of players last until 16.

Ross is a stud. If you write him off as a one trick pony you haven't done your homework. Playmaker. One of the best YAC receivers we've seen in a while.

Kevin King is a 6'3 corner with ball skills and he can hit. Go watch him close on Juju Smith-Schuster on a screen and absolutely bury him. These are good football players with high ceilings.

i have done my homework, im not writing him off as a one trick pony and i'd still hate the pick because of the fit and the fact that i dont think he's a top 16 player in the draft: i would much rather have cam robinson, tim williams, oj howard, haason reddick, marlon humphrey, tj watt - i would prefer all of these to the john ross pick and they certainly aren't unrealistic

kevin king to me is a combine superstar who's tape doesnt match up - he occasionally can make eye-catching plays but i think he isnt as smooth as he should be in coverage and can occasionally be clumsy - i think there are better corner options who would likely be available in round 2: moreau, awuzie, lewis for starters - sidney jones if he's there - i also think there are good wide receivers/edge rushers, linebackers or even offensive linemen who might be better picks at that spot

so i disagree that its a nice haul

Don't like the Ross pick but the rest is cool. We need a pass rusher in the first 3. Albeit We'd still have another comp in the third. For me its pass rusher/ OL in 1 and 2 and CB/WR with both thirds.

No, I dont hate picking King and dont hate Ross -- I just hate the combo, and especially Ross in the first because i fully expect better players to be available.

Though i think theres a slim chance a Mike Williams, Derek Barnett, Foster or Lattimore could fall, there are several far more realistic players id take over Ross.

Tim Williams, Haasan Reddick, Charles Harris, Cam Robinson, Marlon Humphrey, OJ Howard... id take Corey Davis over Ross and he has a chance to be there. Id probably even prefer Dalvin Cook or Fournette to Ross.

And if Ross is the BPA at 16 (which i cant see) then id much prefer to trade back and target Cam, Bolles, Ramchyzk (sp?), or Lamp.... Tim Williams/Harris/Takk/TJ Watt, White/Wilson/Humphrey/Conley, etc... and get much better value, an extra pick(s) and still a better player (imo of course).

I do like King and think he has amongst the highest upside of the CBs in that range but if we went WR in the 1st as your mock does id much rather we go Dan Feeney, Dion Dawkins, or another highly rated OL, highly rated pass rusher is still available... and theres at least a few CBs id have to think long and hard about before taking King especially if Quincy Wilson is there.

I think Magnuson is taken way too high here. I would expect better players at that position to be available, and definitely better players at other positions.

Its not terrible overall... but i hate Ross at 16.

I get hes not one dimensional like most speed guys, but his route running is way over sold. Doesnt have great hands, will find it harder to separate in the NFL, doesnt come back to the ball well, and can be very wild in his runs after the catch.... spinning wildly and exposing himself to big hits. He'll get destroyed doing that in the NFL. Plus injuries are a concern, and are of major concern to a guy whose best asset is speed.

And while he may be more well rounded than most speed guys, speed is still his only elite trait. Take away the elite speed and hes no where close to a 1st round talent. If he were a back end 1st or early 2nd talent without the speed, then yea i could see the speed making him worthwhile at 16. But i just dont see it, and dont see him as bringing anything unique to our offense.

Dont take it personally. You like what you like. Stand on your convictions, nothings wrong with that and no one can blame you for liking who you like. But it doesnt make those who disagree wrong.

Would have been good to have more than three rounds.

I at least appreciate you going a different way.

Ross is going to be a stud. This time of year always gets people so obsessed with measurables. If Ross was 6'2+ with the same production/film you would all be drooling over him.

All Top 15 in Receiving YDS last year - Antonio Brown, TY Hilton, Brandin Cooks, Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry, Julian Edelman, Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate

Over half the leading WR's in the Top 15 last year were under 6 foot

That also has to do with the fact those teams are in pass heavy offenses...... The Ravens moved the ball relatively well last season from what I saw. They broke down around the opponent's 30 yard line. The team needs to start being able to put up 7 points a drive, not 3.
