Timmy Jernigan - Trade rumors

We drafted Jernigan when his potential was at its highest with a late 2nd. Almost every other team passed on him twice, when they could've had the full potential for 4 years cheap.

I cant see someone now giving up a 2nd/early 3rd when he hasn't consistently lived up to potential, for just a year before having to give him big money if he finally does play well.

Im just more or less against the logic. To set your bar at 2nd or 3rd has to assume he puts it all together and plays really well to bet that level comp pick. That's a big assumption when he hasn't yet in 3 prior years -- and if the FO felt that was likely they're probably not trying to move him at this point.

You try to move him bc you think he's maxed out and you want to get something before you lose him for nothing... and bc you think a current option can give you close to the same play. You have to operate on what you have, not assuming an unsubstantiated sudden and drastic improvement in consistency.

I have no problems keeping him. I like the player. But I wouldn't be mad at a late 3rd-4th pick (which is prob wishful thinking) bc this draft is loaded and is likely the absolute best we'd stand to get back from him walking. If you have a chance to lock in your projected best case scenario - do it.

--

Keep in mind Ealy, who has similarly flashed big upside but been aggravatingly inconsistent netted just a 8 spot move up for the Panthers.

Jamie Collins who had proven much more and been far more consistent only net a 3rd rd pick from the team with THE MOST picks and cap space. And the Pats were all but guaranteed a 3rd rd comp. no ones just throwing picks around for mid tier players when they won't for proven near pro bowl level players.

Sheldon Richardson, yes with some off field concerns, but far more dominant on field play didn't garner interest for anything more than a 5th rd pick.

If you're trading a guy in a contract year you have no leverage. You're going to lose him at the end of the season.

So just saying... don't expect the value you've set.

That 8 point move up was worth 40 points. That means, for Ealy the differential worked out to the Patriots giving the Panthers pick #132 in the 4th round. So, it really wasn't all that poor when you think about it. But I really like Jernigan's potential as long as he can show some consistency. Also, players tend to leave it all on the field in their contract year and I would like the Ravens to capitalize on that possibility.

Like a bunch of teenaged to 20 somethings he's clearly in love with pardon my take and thinks pft commenters Schlick is hilarious (i care more about telling than spelling) and thinks he's clever by blatantly knocking off of that character on here.

Every misspelled word is spelled incorrectly the same way every time. Doan instead of don't?? You have to actually try to screw that up. And as you pointed out even when quoting names spelled properly he misspells them purposely using a phonetic spelling. I guarantee it takes longer and more effort to make sure everything's spelled wrong "the right way."

Please guys lets all agree to block these people. Trolls exist for the reaction. I know it's tempting to want to talk sense into them, but you never will. They already know -- the stupidity is on purpose (some of it at least). If we block we don't have to see it, no one will quote so those of us that have blocked won't still be exposed.... And they'll quietly disappear

Exactly.

I will say, however, most teenagers I know don't do that.

Poe had to take a 1 yr prove it deal.

Jernigan, if he wants big money will have to do the same unless he plays out of his mind this year.

And the reason you may may take a 3rd now is bc a teams 3rd is higher than a comp pick. You take a 4th bc a bad teams 4th is only slightly worse than a comp 3rd (which there's no guarantee we get, idk if it's even likely) in a historically good/deep draft.

Assets now are almost always valued more than assets later (non-complete-rebuild scenarios)....

Your absolutely right regarding assets now vs later. A late third this year is as valuable as a late second next year.

That said, I'd still be dissapointed if we let go of Jernigan for a third rounder. everyone here is saying it like we can just draft a third rounder and teplace Jernigans production. Heck wev done that that past few years (Davis, Kafusi, Lewis, and Urban) all drafted in the 3rd and 4th rounds but none have come close to beating Jernigan out for playing time.

if it ain't broke don't fix it. Let Jernigan play out the year. We already have positions we need to upgrade. Let's not add another one.

especially after watching the live mic'd stuff which suggested he was a real vocal leader on the field for the d linemen despite brandon williams supposedly being that guy - i think the reason he gets a long leash (despite occasionally the coaches picking him out negatively in post game interviews when he's been a bonehead) is because of how important he is within the group as a personality - i really wish he'd properly put it together for 16 games... now he literally cant stay more than a year because of brandon's deal

Yes he can, we have 35 mil in cap space next year! And Mosley is under contract for at least one more year so Brandon's deal has nothing to do with the Jernigan decision.

i also wish he'd keep it together for 16 games. Seriously, if he did then he'd be talking 15 mil a year kind of money and that would be hard to justify. I'm happy if we hand him a 8-10 mil a year deal for the potential of him getting it together. We all know he has flashes of "greatness" in him.

jernigan is a guy id love to keep, especially that we don't have to go out of our way to keep him.

I can't see Mosley being allowed to actually play on that 5th year option and even have a chance to get to free agency - I think he'll be signed next off season which will obviously hit that figure hard - I didn't realise we're likely to have that much space though - that's crazy

Is it really true that we'll have around 35M in cap space next offseason? Imagine have that much cap space with an already improved defense. That money can be used to upgrade the offense next year. 2018 might be a big year for us. But it's hard for me to believe that we will have that much cap space.

Yeah I'm thinking that must be not including Mosley's 5th year option, any of this year's draft class, and any late free agent pickups from this year - if it does then we may well be in a similar position to New England next year with cap space, a good team and flexibility (hopefully with a superbowl trophy as well)

We actually would have 43 mil if Mosley isn't included. Also realistically, the draft picks and FA we get are also gonna dip into that number but we still have a solid 30 mil and a lil more if we free up some.

i also agree on the Mosley part. We shouldn't wait till it's too late to extend his contract. I don't think he has anything else left to prove he's a keeper.

and yes, we are finally over the salary cap hell we put ourselves into after the SB.

Wow cool. That's is pretty scary with around 30M in cap space next offseason. We'll be very dangerous in 2018. 👍

Would this include a projected salary cap increase as well?

If we have somebody to replace his production a round3 would be cool if he could fetch that much. He dominates at times. He could turn up the heat in a contract year. So a contender needing a stout athletic tackle could gamble and send a round3 to fetch him. Don't write off the Jacksonville jaguars because Jernigan can play Nosetackle. He is very stout for his size. And is far more athletic and explosive than the traditional NT.

Many teams don't employ the traditional one trick NT. But prefer stout athletic lineman across the line. Ravens could use draft capital in a good draft. But shouldn't unload him anything less than late3 early round4. He could really breakout in a contract year. And finally play consistently. If Jerney played consistently like his good games he could have double digits very easily. So management needs to think before trading

So you would prefer another burner with limited catching ability, which is what most of our current WRs are already, over a complete wideout with great catch radius?

You make more and more sense with each post

yeah I am very high on hurns we can get him cheap off that last injury yr an the jags have a lot of ball catchas.  jerigan is trade bait but you gota know when to deal

What will you accept as proof that you were wrong though considering what you suggest is financially unfeasible?

Who we won't be able to afford to pay... so let's go draft a new qb who we will literally immediately have to draft away

Jernigan disappeared at the end ...his contract expires and if you can get a 3 or a 4 it probably makes sense.

Sounds good to me if they are not going to be able to extend him and just end up letting him go in free agency next year then try and get something for him. I would like to keep Jernigan but at what price.

You have to get open to be targeted - there's a reason hurns isn't thrown to as much

But if he plays his way out of Baltimore this coming year then we likely get a 3rd/4th round comp pick for him anyway...

very true but comp picks are no guarantee. Personally I would like to Jernigan but he is going to want top $ and I cant blame him for that.

Given how that offense and robinson sputtered I find it hard to believe bortles locked onto robinson...
