I'm not sure about last year being peculiar. Ozzie has attempted to move up before last year.

I do agree with your assessment about this class. Perhaps if the free safety were close Ozzie would jump but we are likely to get an impact player just by staying put.

I like idea of identifying the players you want and moving around to get them. Of course you have to think realistically. Example first 3 rounds say we want JuJu, Lawson, and Eluemunor.  Now those players are in our range but we may have to make a little move for JuJu. We know we have 3 players that will make an impact on our team.

Lets say a game changer drops to 8/9 like Malik Hooker or Jamal Adams. Let's say Peppers is the No. 1 safety to get drafted and Hooker or Adams slides. Then you have to say ok what will it take to get this guy. And you may give up slightly more than you wanted. But you come away with a player you are excited about. As opposed to a couple players you have moderate  hopes for.

The only guy I would possibly trade up for is Adams. I think he is easily the 2nd most talented player in the draft behind Myles Garrett. But I think he is taken by the 49ers a #2. As much as I like Hooker, I would only take him if he fell to #16 and that is coming from one of the biggest Ed Reed fans there is. I think Hooker will be good, but I don't think it is worth giving up a 2nd round selection to move up 5-8 spots to get him. I think there are plenty of talented players that will be available at #16 and this team needs the draft picks to fill some needs. The first four picks in the first three rounds of this year's draft will dictate which side of .500 this team ends up next season.
