Ravensnation mock 3.0

19 posts in this topic

Round 1- Derek Barnett edge Tennessee

He's been fairly quiet in the draft process as of late and I hope that means he slides. His combine numbers, production, and measurables are a mirror image of suggs coming out of college. It's kind of a boring pick as we've all likened to him as our pick but I have a hard time seeing anyone else here who fills a need, and is a realistic possibility of being our BPA at 16. (That's my fav highlight tape of him btw, I think the music is perfect lol)

Round 2- Pat elflien C Ohio st

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/pat-elflein?id=2557879

We got rid of Utah and we want to get stronger up front. That's elfliens calling. He has a wrestling background and a strong base to anchor down, great run blocker, smart and should help solidify our oline and help build chemistry. He will have a huge impact on this team

Round 3- Cooper kupp WR eastern Washington

Some may think I'm crazy to have kupp fall this far but I think others may have worked their way ahead of him based on combine numbers and measurables. Guys like ardarius stewart, Chris godwin, juju, and Josh Reynolds did really well for themselves at the combine and it COULD push him down. Remember this is a mock and it's hard to gauge where some players end up and we always see some players fall further than they should, kupp could be that guy this year. He's the chain mover this offense needs

Round 3- Desmond king DB Iowa

Hes flying under the radar right now. I think a lot of people have forgotten about him and his limitations as an athlete will push him down draft boards. His IQ, character and production will have us salivating at this point in the draft. He gives us depth and can contribute on special teams.

Round 4- Julie'n Davenport OT Bucknell

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/julien-davenport?id=2557963

Long and raw. We will have to be patient with him but he has the potential to be a really good right tackle in this league. I think the 4th round is a good spot for him but some team could take him earlier since this OL class is pretty weak. In a good class he'd be a 5th rounder.  This was a really tough choice here, I really had a hard time figuring out value so I went with someone who has high potential

Round 5- Damontae Kazee CB San Diego st

his small stature, lack of long speed and depth of this class will push him down here. He's a perfect fit for us, excels in zone, off man (showed press ability at senior bowl as well) and is a willing tackler. Our FO will fall in love with his competitiveness.

Round 6- Xavier Coleman CB Portland st

I feel like I would be better off telling you guys undrafted players I like than trying to figure out who will be in the 6th round lol so I'll just bring up a guy nobody knows about.

Matt miller: "Here's a deep sleeper for cornerback fans. Fifteen teams attended Coleman's pro day at Portland State, and he posted impressive numbers, including a 4.46-second 40-yard dash with a 1.56-second 10-yard split. Coleman, at 5'11 ½" and 190 pounds, also vertical-jumped 40" and broad-jumped 10'5", according to his agent. The All-Big Sky first-teamer is worth checking out."

I tried to make this mock as realistic as possible and try to project players the ravens may end up drafting or are really interested in. I'd be very happy with this as our draft hope you guys would too. If you don't let me hear it!! Always up for discussion

3 DBs is an interesting approach, but I like this mock. I guess the 6th round is where we're the most flexible though.

Ya that 6th round pick isn't really even a pick. I didn't know who to put there so I put someone nobody knows about. I was looking for a linebacker to be honest

Yeah he's our equivalent to "Mr. Irrelevant" with the success we've had with UDFAs

I really like the picks in this mock, but I do not think Kupp slides that far. I think if the Ravens land Kupp it would have to be in the second round. I could see the Ravens trading back into the tail end of the 2nd round and picking up Kupp as well as another 4th round pick.

Ya I agree. It could be a stretch to have him fall that far. Maybe Taywan Taylor could be an option at that pick. I would have put Godwin there but his stock seems to be rising lately

Some people want James Conner for the 4th (I think that's when he's projected) which I only see happening if we trade back and get an extra pick.

This may be a stupid question, but what does BOAT stand for?

I like all of the picks, but I agree that Kupp may be taken before our 3rd pick.

This draft would have me pass out into some sort of catatonic state from how epic it would be - I love derek Barnett unreservedly, elflein would be a great pickup, I could see kupp going earlier than the 3rd and I think it's likely he does but for me personally I think the 3rd round is about right for his value - I agree though that if he isn't there then there are a few other wrs who will be there in stead who'd probably still have similar value (juju, ford, Godwin, Taylor etc.), Desmond king is a steal in the 3rd round but he's falling under the radar after an indifferent combine and with the size-speed guys like Kevin king jumping ahead I could see him fall, davenport I think is a good developmental pickup, Kazee is in my stable of bois - big fan of his potential although honestly I don't think he lasts to the 5th (even the 4th might be a struggle) but maybe switch him and davenport and the value works out anyway, I don't really know anything about xavier Coleman but outside of a couple of linemen and expected undrafted dbs I don't know many options that would fit the 6th pick

Nothing to argue over picks one or two. If moving into round three has us with Barnett and Elflein in tow, I'd say our draft is already a very good one.

I'll echo the sentiment regarding Kupp being unavailable....have questions about King being there but round three would certainly be good value.

I like the player.

I think Davenport could be your most under the radar selection.

Doubt Kaezee is there.

All in all, if we came out with Elflein, Barnett and King and perhaps a ebony or wideout in round 5, I'd be pretty pleased.

Ya I see what you mean about kupp. I wouldve put Godwin there but he's been rising up charts. I'm not as big on Ford as others are as I think he'll struggle when he sees the size, speed and physicality of NFL corners. Maybe instead take long there, get oline with the second 3rd and grab darius Rodgers in the 5th

I honestly think kazee could fall that far, he's small and ran a 4.59. With the depth of this DB class I could see him fall but maybe your right about switching him and Davenport, it does seem more realistic.

I honestly was lost in the 6th round lol. So I just picked a guy nobody knew about. I wouldve put Boulaware there but I don't even think he gets drafted. Odds are we don't take another corner after already taking 2

So after seeing your guys comments I'm thinking of changing some picks and making it look like this

1. Barnett

2. Elflien

3. King

3. Ardarius Stewart

4. Kazee

5. Davenport (maybe a stretch)

6. Anybody's guess

ford let me down with his combine a lot if im honest - i still like what i see on tape but i can understand the reservations - maybe taywan taylor would be a good fit if you arent convinced kupp makes it

i think just the sheer production from kazee procludes him from going too late because a team will take a leap of faith on a guy who had that many turnovers

when thinking about the 6th round i find it very difficult to evaluate because they are by their very nature difficult to differentiate because they arent putting quality film / traits out there all the time and let's be honest, whoever we pick up in the 6th is unlikely to turn into a big producer - i really like canady from last year's 6th round but he hasnt translated that into anything yet (and maybe never will)

just coming from clemson probably gets boulware drafted - i could see him being mr irrelevant though - and given that the 6th rounder likely becomes a special teams player if they stay on the roster i could definitely see a triple dip at the position if thats how the value goes

i like this - ardarius stewart i find difficult to place but this could be an interesting combination of players - maybe trestan decoud or brendan langley could be a good flyer cb to take in the 6th or even someone like channing stribling (who might fall that far)

I'm honestly just in love with the idea of barnett/elflien/king lol. If those 3 are out picks them i don't care about the rest of the draft.

Ya Stewart is hard to judge. He could go anywhere from 2nd to 4th. Alabama's offense was very odd this year

exactly - i feel like the 2nd pick could be a corner and id be equally happy but if those were our first 3 picks and we picked up someone with promise like kazee later on id be ecstatic - just because im not sure about king as a corner (i still think he projects best there but the seeds of doubt have grown in my mind with the insistence by other members on this board that he looks like a better safety prospect) - it makes me think that if we took king we'd need to double dip into the corner class

I'm not too worried where king will play cause I know he will fill out a role for himself in the league. It'll be up to the team that takes him to figure out where he fits best. And he won't have to start right away for us anyways. I think to start he could play a little corner as well as safety. Hes a football player that's all that matters

Stewart has been solidly mocked in the 4th by about 5 different multi round mocks I've seen. That's where I'm taking him in my mock
