UPDATED: MESSAGE BOARDS CLOSING AFTER DRAFT   03/08/2017

After careful consideration, we have decided that we will sunset our message boards after this year's NFL Draft. Since we opened our boards a decade ago, the digital landscape has greatly evolved. While we understand there remains a smaller group of highly-engaged fans who participate in conversation in our forums, a significant amount of the dialogue about our team and our games has migrated away to other social media platforms over the past several years. Our message boards will remain up and running through Friday, May 5th, and will be removed on May 6th. We recognize that this change may upset avid members of our community. However, we look to utilize our time and resources to focus on how we can best connect with our fans across an array of digital/social outlets. If you are not already engaging us and other members of the Ravens Flock on our Facebook page, Instagram account, through Twitter or Snapchat, we invite you to follow us on those channels and continue to participate in our social communities. In addition, the commenting feature on our website articles will remain intact. Members will be able to continue using their boards account to log in and share their thoughts at the bottom of every news story. We’d like to thank all the Flock members and our moderators who have brought thoughtful conversation to this space and made our community great for the last 10 years. Ravens Social Media Hub »

Who Should the Ravens Draft?

45 posts in this topic

Didn't see a thread like this yet and since the combine is done and some of the pro days are already done...and with free agency being in full swing why not start thinking ahead of our pipe dream Ravens picks?

I am not an adept student of the college game nor do I have any real clue as to who is being drafted when. I will let the other guys around here that know more than I do sort all that out. I simply want to get this conversation started for my own curiosity and offer up one name in the news recently.

The player is CB Sidney Jones who is considered by many "experts" to be a top 5 corner in this draft class and a day one pick. The news on him is horrible though. He suffered an apparent Achilles tendon injury on the very last drill of his pro day. Since he's expected to miss almost all if not all of his rookie season his draft stock has obviously dropped, but by how much?

Will he make it out of the first round now? If he drops to the second round will he drop low enough for the Ravens to pick him up? If he is there in round two should the Ravens draft him? They need corner help now, but being able to stash away first round talent at a second round price (or maybe lower?) and being able to team him up with another free agent pick up or highly touted draft pick next season might be intriguing enough.

I could also envision a team that doesn't really have a high pick and not needing immediate help this season picking him up very late in round one if they believe in the talent.

*I normally sign into the Ravens Talk section and didn't realize there was a separate forum dedicated soley to the 2017 Draft. I apologize for this to all of you and to the mod that has to take time to remove/move this thread. I reposted this in the DB's section here in the appropriate place so guys, please do comment here instead!*

It looks like we're going receiver in the first and corner in the second. Or vice versa.

In regards to Sidney Jones, I'm not sure how far he will drop.  This will really depend on his prognosis and expected treatment time.  Normally an Achilles takes six months and some of these younger athletic freaks heal quicker as well.  That being said, I still feel he will play in his rookies year, although he will miss all of camp.

I initially was thinking that he would drop to the 2nd round, I'm starting to think that he will not make it out of the first and one of the teams picking late will take a chance on him.  I'm a Sidney Jones fan and wouldn't be against trading back and getting him in the 20s.  That being said, that would not be my first choice.

Id really like the Ravens to draft in no particular order, edge, cb or wr, and am starting to think the Ravens want one of the top wideouts in this draft with the 1st round pick.

WR's John ross and corey davis are great fits at 16... If not then draft OLB hasaan reddick or OL Garrett Bolles..

You are all right guys, I didn't notice there was a completely different section for drafts. Didn't have any coffee this morning. I will repost this there and sorry that I have created extra work for a mod.

Theres a lot of talk about Reddick going before Foster now because of what Foster did at the combine.

Receiver: My favorite guy who will probably be gone when we pick is Mike Williams. He comes across as an Alshon Jeffrey-type to me and seeing as many of you were clamoring for Jeffrey I think he would be great if he actually does drop to 16. Not really a fan of John Ross. he is a small receiver with knee concerns before last season. If he hadn't broken the record for the 40 he would be a 2nd round pick IMO.

Pass Rusher: My favorite guy who I think has a good shot of still being there is Derek Barnett. I live in TN and have gotten to watch him play quite a bit. He reminds me a bit of Sizzle he doesn't have "elite" athleticism but he has a nonstop motor and a great passion for the game, they also have very similar measurables. I like Tim Williams here as well if the team decides to go pass rush, I think one of the two should be there at 16.

Cornerback: I would have loved Sidney Jones here until a few days ago. Now I would have to lean towards Tredavious White or Quincy Wilson if the team decides to go cornerback here.

Can we make another poll soon? I feel like the one we have is outdated

You have a poll?

we can't merge threads with a poll in them.

I was talking about making a new thread to vote for who we think the ravens will take at 16.

I like John Ross (WR) if the Ravens go offense - Jabrill Peppers is intriguing pick on D at number #16 as well.

I don't like John Ross for us. Wallace and Perriman are speed receivers, but I hope we take someone with more of a possession/route running skill set (I feel like we can wait to take a WR anyway). As for Jabrill Peppers, if we're going BPA it's a viable option (but then it depends on who's left on the board), but the holes at CB, O-line, edge, and WR I feel are more urgent therefore I don't see it. Wouldn't hate to have Peppers though, freak of an athlete that could take over for Weddle once he retires.

Ross runs very good routes. The problem with him is his durability.

True. I didn't mean to phrase it as harping on his route running, but I question physicality.

he just doesnt seem like a good fit - he has elite speed but his route-running, physicality, durability, and consistency are much bigger issues which make me really not trust him at 16

Who should we draft? Myles Garrett.

Who can we draft? Hell if I know. If Reuben foster, Derek Barnett, mike Williams, fournette or Jamal Adams fall for some inexplicable reason they'll be the pick, after that it's a total guessing game.

Any one of those 5 names you mentioned will improve our team immediately. But, I don't know if we'll be that lucky. But, all it takes is a run on QBs and a couple of out of the box picks by other teams and we have a real shot at one of them. Jamal Adams, Foster, Barnett, Mike Williams and Fournette would be my priority list in that order but any single one of them would make me ecstatic.

Do any of you think Reuben foster could maybe be overrated. I just kinda thought about it. Maybe he's one of those Alabama system guys. A guy that ends up missing Nick saban. He did take a couple years to develop. I still think he's a good fit for us anyways, it's just a thought

It is basically safe to write off any of them except for maybe Barnett but still highly doubtful. Just stating that it's a total crapshoot at 16 barring some unforeseen circumstances knocking a player down

Like Jonathan Allen falling that far. It could happen, just unlikely

I do not want a wr in the 1st round. Anything besides a Wr. Id rather us trade up for lattimore or fourennte before we draft a wr in the 1st

I've jumped all over the place, but I was positive it would be Jones or Tim Williams.

I am getting a vibe though that we catch a break this year and catch a slider. I think it will be either Foster or Barnett. Mark my words it will be one of those two.

If they are gone though, I have a feeling Tim Williams or Marlon Humphrey will be the pick.

I like every situation you've brought up here. I just really don't want us to go offense first round unless they're a game breaker.

For guys that could believably be available at 16, my top options are Barnett and Corey Davis. For me, it's either those two, one that surprisingly slipped, or a trade back.

I don't want a WR in the first round, but I'd make an exception for Davis. Dudes got hands.
