[News] Reports: Dennis Pitta Agrees To Restructured Contract

44 posts in this topic

The Ravens reportedly asked Pitta to take a pay cut, and he has accepted, per NFL Media's Mike Garafolo. Pitta led all NFL tight ends in receptions (86) last year after two years away from football.

I wonder how much money is saved and how much he can earn back with incentives again. Pitta is a reliable if not spectacular target. He can get open in zone coverage and most often will catch anything near him. We can't say that about a lot of our receiving targets. I don't think the Ravens plan on him being the #1 tight end moving forward, but is just like he was last season. A security blanket behind Maxx Williams.

Please proofread these articles before releasing. If the owner saw this, he would not be happy

4 of the 6 have had injury issues with Pitta missing two years, Watson missing all of last year and we know from S Smith and Suggs it takes a year and a half to get right. That's 3 months past the start of preseason. 2 more of them have suspension issues with Boyle just one infraction away from missing an entire season. Maxx Williams is in his third year and has bust written all over him Waller has yet to prove he can make the transition from WR to TE, however, he would seem to meet the criteria for a big possession receiver and move him back outside if only they could develop his hands. Any way it shakes out we will probably keep four and attrition could decide who those four may be.

he didn't have any choice but to take the paycut, we have good depth and the draft is loaded with good TEs.

now we need to focus on OL and CBs in the next phase of FA.

So happy to have Pitta back and Boyle for an entire season!  I believe Watson will be cut and Williams will do his norm.

Last year's restructure, was mostly an insurance policy and extra motivation. Especially since he earned back the difference.

This year's restructure is the real one, most likely just bringing his contract into fair market value range. Don't worry Pitta, Flacco said he is paying for all your meals for the next season to make up for the team-first restructure. The only issue now, is to convince him to eat somewhere else besides McDonald's.

Norm as in nothing or getting hurt?

Between Pitta and Woodhead, Joe will easily throw for 4000 yards....on 800 attempts.

This is a decision I'm not terribly excited about. Not only will Joe's growth remain stunted so will Maxx Williams' lack of opportunity. He is still a health risk and can't gain yards after catch and will trap Flacco into dump off passes to Pitta repeatedly. I don't know why but I think this decision lacks foresight and courage on the part of the Ravens front office.

this is a critical season for every one of the te's on the roster currently. too much inconsistent play out of all of them for one reason or another. one of these guys needs to stay healthy, stay on the field and become "the guy" or te will be a target position in 2018.

You can bet if Pitta's salary restructuring includes significant incentives, as it did last year, his good buddy Joe will do whatever he can to help him earn those incentives...perhaps at the expense of the growth of other receivers and maybe even negatively impacting the outcome of the game.

If Pitta blocks like he did last year Joe will be missing games this year if not the season.

I'm pretty happy with this but i still want to see more Gillmore, Boyle, Waller and/or Maxx Williams this year. I'm expecting Pitta to do a little more now that he'll be 2 years removed from serious hip injuries.

Also, some editing is really needed. This sentence, "The Ravens tight end has reportedly Joe Flacco's favorite targets," makes no sense.

I have to believe this move is going to necessitate the release of Watson. I just can't see us keeping them both, unless we have zero faith in the young guys. That would be a shame, since we expended quite a bit of draft capital in this position.

I know he can't block, but at least Pitta has some sure hands. I have not been impressed with some of the others in that respect. At least when Pitta is on the field he can catch the ball when it comes his way, but I wish the man could block.

If we draft a TE I'm going to stroke out.

I'm not sure if the young TEs have issues with catching the ball really or not. Williams has seemed to lack the physical maturity to be on the field, Boyle has spent so much time on the shelf with suspensions it is hard to tell what he can and can't do. I don't know what to make of Gilmore ... so may health issues, but last year when he was on the field he was invisible. One of the biggest disappointments of the season, IMO.

He can't block... even a little bit. He set a new NFL record for failed receptions. He not only had an average yards per catch near the bottom of the league, he had virtually zero yards after first contact. Two thoughts... first they need to cut Watson... second they need to figure a new scheme so we won't set another record for failed receptions.

No one is better at gaining 6 yards on third-and-seven.

More like 3 yards on third and 4.

As much as I like Dennis- and his zeal, he is just another convenient check down for Dunkin Jo-nuts. Furthermore, Joe is not a Championship caliber QB. He just happened to be the QB on the Championship caliber team of 2012. Until many of the pieces of our team get much better (much, much better), he will never guide us to another Championship. Can't wait for Mallett to somehow get into the mix.

This statement is simply absurd and demonstrates a complete lack of understanding.

I seriously don't think Pitta can block because of his hips. Then the problem becomes when he is in the game opponents will know 98% the ball is going his way.

Thinking the glass is half empty is one thing but saying  it is broke is another.
