[News] Reports: Ravens Release Safety Lardarius Webb

42 posts in this topic

You were a great player for the Ravens, and are a great person.  Who knows how high your ceiling would've been before the injuries?

Frees up over $5M.  Welcome to Baltimore, Mr. Mangold.

Good teammate, good guy, but production and speed due to injuries has been spotty and his switch to safety just took him too long to adjust and produce. He did better towards the end of the year but why train an old vet to start in a new position when you have an outstanding 25 year old young talent to replace him. AND his cap hit due to a bad contract was just too much to absorb. Maybe resigned as a punt returner or ST guy at a vet minimum? Probably not.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Although highly unlikely, I'd love it if he ended up back with us. Very solid player, FANTASTIC open field tackler, and a good leader. He just cost too much after those injuries. He got paid top CB money at the time, and it was deserved. But those injuries made it very hard to justify paying him. I will miss him. One of my favorite Ravens, for sure.

Took him a few games to adjust. He ended up being more than serviceable. He was actually really good at safety. But ya, we definitely had to cut him for the reasons you laid out. No doubt about it.

Webb, played 8 years for the Ravens and played very well in his early years. If not for Darrelle Revis, Nnamdi Asomugha, and Champ Bailey's of the world , I believe he could have made several Pro Bowls. However, injuries come and having a smaller frame hurts your chances of survival in the rugged NFL, especially in the brutal, hard hitting AFC North.

That being said, you really have to salute him for his grand efforts.

Have you seen his 25 yr old replacement make any plays deep downfield? He is a box safety that ran a 4.75.

I said previously that the rumors had Claibourne and Amoukamora on the Ravens radar, but Amoukamora just signed a one year with the Bears (I believe).

Its about time Webb had to go, now when are they going to cut Arrington?

Wasn't Arrington injured last year? Until he clear medical waivers they can't cut him without an injury settlement. I don't know that for a fact, but if he still is rehabbing, then there is not much the Ravens can do with him until he is cleared to play.

FO had no choice... if no one else bids for him we might just be able to pick him up on the cheap. Anyone heard whether Pitta is willing to take a pay cut or if he wants to move on?

Not likely. We probably needed to cut him just to afford to be able to pay some of the guys we signed.

A very good player until injuries slowed him down and a player I had a high opinion of. I kind of knew the Jefferson deal meant he was gone and he could not have restructured his deal enough to be an affordable back up player.

Somebody else will probably give him a roster spot and depending on his market maybe he comes back to B-more.

Kendrick Lewis ended last year on IR. He was cut.

When they need to.

It needs to be soon.

No it doesn't. If you don't need his cap space, then you gain literally nothing from cutting him.

You don't just cut a bunch of players and pray that you can sign somebody else without knowing that you can.

Kendrick Lewis also passed a physical and recovered from his injury.

Arrington has not yet done that.

Where was it reported that he passed a physical? Players are cut all of the time from IR with injury settlement but I haven't heard or read anything like that for Lewis.

But you can cut a bunch of unproductive players and their is no rule that states you can't cut them until they pass a physical.
