Tony Jefferson is a very good addition. Keeping Brandon Williams, even at the overpay isn't a horrible move.

u sur about that? both ways?

I hav to say this. Jefferson can tackle. he sur can and if he was signed to do something elam culdnt do like tackle at least he'd be half a footbal player.  but as far as make anyon e forget reed and pollard not even close.  as my fav poster purple rider says this is a passin league.  if ur player aint good at helpin the pass or stopping the pass you got the right player

I thought we were in a rebuilding phase but I'm not sure the FO sees it that way. As I said in the free agency thread, I don't think you make the deals we've made unless you think you can win now and Jefferson is the piece to get us over the hump.

Our FO proved that we are in win now mode last off season and this off season theyr leaving no doubt

Looking back it's pretty obvious rebuilding occurred the two years after our super bowl win.

Obviously we whiffed on some draft spots that we were to solidify i.e. Elam and Brown. I reaaaally like the Jefferson signing. This was a necessary move.

Ideally we land CB, Pass Rusher, or WR (in that order) as BPA. Personally hoping for Corey Davis since I think he could break Ozzies  WR track record. Legit #1 option.

Looool I had to read that 3 times and I'm still not sure I understand it all.

Il attempt to reply so here goes...

We're in win now mode because Jefferson is the only FA we got the past few years that's actually younger than 29. We're in win now mode because wev dipped into upcoming years cap to spend now. We're in win now mode because we're changing staff members but not the philosophy. It it was rebuild mode we would change our style of blocking or passing or defense. Instead we are trying to tweak vs blowing it all up.

wheather or not I believe this team has what it takes to go all the way is a different discussion. Whats becoming increasingly obvious is that our FO believes that this team can. This they are trying to win with this team. The day they believe this team can't go all the way then they will blow it up. Trade a few guys for picks and swallow a whole lot of dead cap for a year then have about 50mil to work with the next year.

This thread has certainly gotten more colorful lately :)

If this team was in blow it up mode I don't think they would have bothered picking up Wallace's option, signing Tony Jefferson, and bringing back Brandon Williams. They are getting rid of some older players like Webb and Dumervil and I think a few more are in the works. They say more FA moves are on the way. If they make a deal for Claiborne and Mangold that is further evidence that they are restocking the team and trying to make another run while we still have a window with Flacco at the helm.

I get the Flacco hate. He obviously isn't an Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady...but look around the league and tell me how many other guys are? But he has proven that when he's healthy, he has a decent ground game, and has some legitimate targets he can be something special. Let's not forget that it was this team's terrible 4th quarter collapses that cost us many games over the last couple seasons.

I think last year is an anomaly. He was in his first season back with a surgically repaired knee w/brace that he obviously didn't trust. He had a shoulder injury for a few games as well that he played through. His line was porous at times as well. I think he's better than that when healthy.

I feel like we are confused. We sign players to compete, but we have so many holes that needs time to rebuild. No true go to guy in the receiver core, offensive line has holes and depth concern, and the RB who is doing the best gets the ball. Conclusion on offense we have no stability. Defensively we got better in the secondary, but that's pretty much the only spot we have improved on this offseason. We lost Orr and dumervil and Suggs gets a year older. No matter what we do in the draft I still think this team goes 7-9 best case scenario but realistically 6-10 or 5-11

I don't see that at all. What were our major problems last year? Passing D and OL. We upgraded FS by moving Weddle, we added another top 5 safety. We upgraded the horrible Wright for Carr. If they're smart they'll draft Humphrey in the 1st and you than have the best secondary in the NFL with 4 legit starters at CB and 2 top 5 safeties. Yeah we lost Doom, who didn't do squat last year.

As for the OL we finally abort the disaster of a coach and replace him with prob the best in the business right now, and addition by subtraction at C. We either have to plug a hole at LG or RT, both positions he draft has starters that will be available in Rd 2 of the draft. And we still have depth, granted not great in Hurst and Ducasse but with a better coach.....maybe good enough, not to mention guys on the PS or later round guys.

Love Juice, but Woodhead is a upgrade. And we still have a overload at RB and TE. Honestly my only concern is WR as I don't trust BP to suddenly become a starter. And there's not much there behind Wallace and BP, sorry Camp fans but he's made of Glass. Maybe Reynolds or Moore can step up, or maybe we go back to ball control and using our plethora of TEs to work the middle and move the chains and beat teams up like we used to.

I really like our team this year, our problems are very fixable in the draft. There are guys already on the roster that can hopefully compete for a starting spot in the O-line alongside whoever we take in the draft (which will be someone early) and I love how our defense is coming along. I like Judon as an edge rusher and if we add Tim Williams (even better if it's Barnett) our pass rush is looking good. Not sure if we take Humphrey, if no one slides I see us taking Tim Williams, Robinson, or Ramczyk.

To rebuild or to reload; that is the question. I would like to think we are reloading rather than rebuilding but those Ravens fans naïve enough to think our team is one or two players away from being a legitimate SB contender are simply fooling themselves and sailing down the Denial River. Our O-line is as porous as swiss cheese, we still do not have a stud #1 WR, we enter the season with a big question mark when it comes to who will be our RB, we need an ILB to replace Zach Orr and an OLB now that Elvis has left the house and the TE position is up for grabs, we're not sure whether Reynolds can return a punt, our only proven pass rusher is Terrell Suggs and we have enough players recovering from injuries to fill a hospital ward. BUT, other than that, everything is hunky-dory. So, the pressure is really on the FO to hit a grand slam in the draft and also to steal a starting center and a WR thru FA in order to say we are reloading for another SB run and not rebuilding. After all, it has only taken us five years to resolve the secondary woes we had if this group can do what their predecessors since 2012 could not do. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, its a duck. So, I'd say we are rebuilding.

I'm kind of late to the party here, but I look at rebuilding as the thing that comes after a championship push.

First you push for a championship by trading future assets (draft picks, young players) for veterans who can help now, back-loading contracts with guaranteed money/signing bonuses, and possibly building around a veteran QB for one last-ditch effort before he retires or hits FA.

The rebuild begins once the championship push is over and the salary cap becomes a problem: you cut overpaid veterans, clear cap space for the future, and field a subpar roster so that you can tank and get high draft picks. Then, a few years later, you build around a young core and push for another championship, thus continuing the cycle.

Given this definition, the Ravens rarely do a committed rebuild. Probably the closest we came was back in 2002, when we lost several veterans due to the big push for a repeat in 2001.

The great thing about the NFL is that most teams have a shot to win it all the way.  We were 500 last year and we were close to the playoffs regardless of how we looked, so with the improvements made, Joe's injury, new players added, i do think we can compete for the division still.  And you know what they say, just have to get to the dance then make some noise.  Look how bad we looked at the end of the year during our last SB.  A rebuilding team wont be competing for a division
