Just to clear up a few misconceptions...

This has been pointed out multiple times, but it seems to keep being brought up so I will once again clarify that the monetary cost of running and maintaining these boards was a non-factor in the decision to sunset them. Yes, it does cost money to run them, but that was not even part of the discussion of closing the boards.

The boards will remain open through the end of the day tomorrow. (Friday, May 5 is the final day.)

When we talk about the usage drop-off, it refers to every metric we have -- not just registrations or post counts. We completely understand that the vocal group on here is extremely passionate and active. However, the number of actual active users is considerably smaller than many seem to imagine. Despite the 70,000+ registered accounts, only a very small majority have been active in the last year to two years -- and that includes people who don't post comments. We understand there are plenty of members who come to read, rather than post their thoughts. (In fact, more than 70% of registered users have never posted a single time.) When we talk about activity, it includes those fans as well. All of it has declined. The number of members visiting and posting on the boards on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis has reached very low levels. (Last preseason/regular season, only about 3% of members visited the boards. And in October and November, all of the posted comments were made by just 1% of the users. These numbers include news article comments as well.)

The mods and I greatly appreciate all of the compliments about how our board is better than others out there and how much better our members are than those on other boards. (We have always agreed.) But as any of the mods can attest, it's not easy to keep it so clean and the trolling to a minimum. There is a significant amount of effort and behind-the-scenes communication going on between the mods and admins. (In fact, the amount of conversation taking place in the mod area is greater than all of last season's game threads and this year's draft forum post volumes combined.) To keep things up to our high standards requires a great deal of time and human resources, and we must constantly evaluate how we're utilizing those resources so that we might best serve all our fans.

As you may have noticed, several fans have been looking to launch an unofficial community for those still interested in interacting with each other in a message board environment beyond tomorrow. I have been in contact with those creating the boards at www.purpleflock.com and invite you to check them out.

We know that many who have voiced their displeasure will still disagree with our decision to close the boards, but we hope you might respect the fact that, since last offseason, much thought, debate and consideration has gone into this decision. We greatly appreciate your support as fans and thank you for your unsurpassed passion.

So wait... The boards aren't closing for monetary reasons?

Pardon my french, but what the hell are you thinking? We have one of the smallest fanbases in the entirely nfl already. And the regulars tend to stick around because the regulars(me, @-Truth-, so many others) like each other. And furthermore, you're screwing people like me over. And that's unfair. I don't live in Baltimore. I don't know any ravens fans. This forum is all I got. Facebook, twitter, is full of idiots. It's like if Disneyland closed because they got 1000 less customers than the previous year. Why ruin a good thing?

And I'm gonna come across as a Brownnoser, but even though I think moderation could have been better, the moderation here has been far superior on this forum than ANY I have been on otherwise. I literally quit RSR because that place is toxic. Here, there are several insightful and intelligent fans here who have turned me into a much smarter football fan. Sure, there are idiots here too, but not too many of them. The moderation generally does a good job.

Seriously.. Closing this place is ASININE to the nth degree. A lot of stupid crap has happened this year. But this is easily in my top 5. This is nonsensical from every angle I look at it from. I'd get it if it were from a funding perspective, but seriously.

Let me make sense of this.

1. If you think that running this forum has become too hard, then why do people like @Moderator 2 still have moderator jobs on other websites? She works hard, at while we've had conflicts in the past, we've always resolved them and has gone easy on me. She seems to REALLY like it here. As do the other mods. I'm pretty sure some of them would LOVE to step into your position if it meant they could keep the place running.

2. OF COURSE THERE'S BEEN A DROP OFF. We've missed the playoffs 3/4 years. It esentially killed any kind of bandwagon we had going and thank god, but it shows who the true fans are. Again, we have a very small fanbase to begin with. The fairweathers are gone. And thank freaking god.  When we start winning again don't be surprised when other message boards suddenly have a flood of fans.

3. The amount of attention to detail on this forum is great. It's not only easy to use, but aesthetically pleasing. Far and away better than any replacement options set in place(no offense to the ones who created them. I'm grateful. But seriously, the website here is simple yet gorgeous).

Just. This is so nonsensically idiotic that it's giving me a headache. Screw this place for closing.

Who's in for a chain manure chant? Becaus this is BS

I don't believe we should make the two boards about competing. I signed up for both and the one that has the best content, features and familiar posters will be where I make my new Ravens Home. I've been here a long time and I've gotten comfortable with my gameday ritual and the posters here. Even posters I routinely disagree with are precious to me. Kind of like that crazy uncle that everyone shakes their head about but that first holiday gathering where he's gone, everyone misses him like crazy. I'm certain I am that person for some lol

I hope everyone gives both boards a chance if they don't decide to merger and hope to see everyone in the gameday threads (or chats).

Edit: It is so weird being a Practice Squad member again.

Honestly, if it wasn't so difficult to find this forum from the main page, it would probably have more traffic and new users. It's pretty well hidden as-is.

When I found this forum, I found it completely by accident. I clicked someone's timestamp in the comments section beneath one of the news articles, which led me to the forum thread where comments are logged. I then navigated to the main forum page where these subsections are by clicking the "Forum" tab. Had I not made that first misclick, I never would have found these forums. To this day, that's the only way I know of to navigate to the forums section from the main page.

If the Ravens main site had a "Forum" tab alongside all of their other tabs (News, Videos, Photos, Lifestyle, Gameday, etc...) then I can guarantee you more people would post here. As is, it's almost like the site designers don't want anyone to find the forum.

It's like the government in my country, which neglects the train lines and then wonders why no-one takes the trains and uses that as a reason to neglect them further. Madness.

Well, it's been a fun ride on this site. Particularly the draft part of it. Looking into prospects has made drafts a lot more enjoyable.

I've come to the realization that I may not be around here much after today.

Increasingly I read articles on various other sites, since the announcement of the boards closing I've opened other accounts to leave comments on sites.

I've joined purpleflock and boardhost one already. Hopefully I see some of you there.

The things I do read from here usually go through the team app.

This sucks.

I've been doing this for 7 years.

My first draft nut season was the jimmy Torrey draft and I clamored for both. I discussed all the heartbreak of the playoffs  and the glory of our super bowl run. I defended flacco to the end but criticized him when he was bad. I begged for cams firing for years with all of you. I was here for the birth of BSHU. The pats and steelers rivalries. The mile high miracle. I was as excited as everyone else about Elam and as disappointed as everyone else when he became the worst Ravens draft pick ever. So much history we've all been through on here. It's weird that we don't know each other but we have been talking ravens for so long in a tight knit community that it feels a little personal, and I'm really sad that this is gone now.

Its been fun folks, hope to see y'all on boardhost!

The news articles are rubbish and frequently behind what you'd learn from members here

I like training camp notes the most but read the news articles mostly all the time .

The LFW articles can be a decent info Roundup from the web

I like most of the articles here especially Eisenberg's column. LFW is pretty good during the season and even duringtraining camp. although news is slow this time of year and it really shows. I'm afraid I usually get breaking news on other sites; its faster that way.
