UPDATED: MESSAGE BOARDS CLOSING AFTER DRAFT   03/08/2017

After careful consideration, we have decided that we will sunset our message boards after this year's NFL Draft. Since we opened our boards a decade ago, the digital landscape has greatly evolved. While we understand there remains a smaller group of highly-engaged fans who participate in conversation in our forums, a significant amount of the dialogue about our team and our games has migrated away to other social media platforms over the past several years. Our message boards will remain up and running through Friday, May 5th, and will be removed on May 6th. We recognize that this change may upset avid members of our community. However, we look to utilize our time and resources to focus on how we can best connect with our fans across an array of digital/social outlets. If you are not already engaging us and other members of the Ravens Flock on our Facebook page, Instagram account, through Twitter or Snapchat, we invite you to follow us on those channels and continue to participate in our social communities. In addition, the commenting feature on our website articles will remain intact. Members will be able to continue using their boards account to log in and share their thoughts at the bottom of every news story. We’d like to thank all the Flock members and our moderators who have brought thoughtful conversation to this space and made our community great for the last 10 years. Ravens Social Media Hub »

ANNOUNCEMENT: Boards Closing May 5 (New Date)

486 posts in this topic

I doubt this would have generated any meaningful numbers but at least there was a chance of more people responding on the they announcement came if we put up the poll/vote:

Are you just switching to twitter/facebook/snapchat or leaving the site once forum is closed?

1] switching
2] leaving

Too late now

Why don't you all participate in this to give the people with the power to make the decisions see what we really think and will do.

Is there a count of how many memebers are on this board? Some members are fans of other teams in their respective cities but STILL come here to talk football with us. That says a lot about our community and we deserve to exist

The best part of this site is actually all of you fellow posters, whether I agree with you or not. It engages my brain and sometimes makes me consider things a bit differently because I am turned onto a different view point that I hadn't considered before.

Full list used to be available before the last software upgrade, now it's hidden. You can only see online users. I will go through game threads and invite few guys to join the new forum, definitely. Not likely they'll show up before May 5th but worth a try.

The reason why sites like this close down  due to lack of people is very simple. It is because a lot of people who come

to these sites to read and try to get into discussion are always put down by the very FEW and SAME people that always dominate

and act as if their opinion is the only one that matters. If you disagree with them you get talked about and ridiculed as if

you didn't know a thing about football.... And lord forbid if you say one wrong thing about the Ravens. It is either you

just agree with everything and anything the same 5 or 6 people say that act as if they own the site or say nothing.

This was basically the same thing I read on the Scout Forum a while back as well.  They would say that the place

became a ghost town and wondered why. It was the same reason. A few know it alls that spoiled it for everyone else.

So it has nothing to do with advertising, more exposure, etc. ...it has to do with allowing the same very few people dominate

everything with their opinions get away with it and drive everyone else away. That is what happens to these sites. It is as if

these people have no life and have to voice their opinion on every single subject that comes up. And as stated always act as if

their opinion is the best and only one.

I used to sit in seats at Ravens stadium that were adjacent to a lone seat  that wasn't owned by a PSL. The best thing

that happened was that a lot of times it usually sold on game day to an opposing fan. At first that seemed like a bad thing...

but eventually I learned that I got better insight and talk from someone with a different opinion about not only their team

but the Ravens as well because they weren't biased and gave opinions that were way different then a purple kool-aid

drinking Ravens fan. So eventually I hoped that the person buying the seat would be someone from the other team as I had

better conversation and friendly rivalry with them.

These sites block those kind of people. They only allow Ravens fans and set up so many rules about what you can say or

not say that after a while it sounds like a Leave It To Beaver TV Show. "Golly gee Wally the R avens are really neat" .. "Yeah,

I know Beave" ... But let Eddie Haskell show up and it all goes down hill and he is told to go home.....

Hopefully, someone opens a site where people can voice their opinions good or bad and stop the few no-it-alls that dominate

and ruin them.

Talk about a tangent! Brother I have to disagree here. I don't know of one person that puts others down on this site maybe RAVENSIQ ( Troy Smith is god) or STEELERS PROPHET back in the day but I can't think of any others.

The reason it has to be kept clean is because this message board is part of the ravens official team site which means everything needs to be tasteful and presentable to anybody that enters. Would you want your child to come in here and see Sh.... or [profanity deleted]....... I know I wouldnt

That's what I really like about the boards. Plus the community is awesome.

Absolutely agree with you! Now see in lieu of eliminating the boards entirely why don't they look at canning Mink and saving some money?

Hey now, no need to demand for the man's job even if you don't like him. The cost of running this forum is negligible compared to his salary I'm sure.

Since I see others doing the same I'll also get on board.

There is NO CHANCE I will be using this site at all once the forum goes down. And Twitter and Facebook will NOT be my relocation for conversation regarding Ravens football.

The total membership for the website is approximately 73,623.  How many are actually "active" accounts I am not sure.  It depends on how the FO defines "active" membership registrations.

You make a valid point in that some of our members are fans of other teams that come here for the football discussion.

Are other NFL teams shutting down message boards?

I didn't see one on Tampa's official site, I didn't see one for the Steelers either, unless its under Steelers Nation Unite.

I would say that most teams do not have an official team sponsored message board.

You would be correct.  Less than half do.  We've been "special" for quite a while.

Well that puts things in perspective. It sucks, but cant really complain about it. Id just like to know how much money they are saving by shutting the boards down.

So the message from the powers that be is to be less special?

I have asked Admin3 who has been referred to as the digital media boss and I have asked the people that would receive my "contact us" message several things, but two questions were:

1) Is this a financial decision? If so would a paid membership help offset that cost?

2) Is is a personnel/financial decision? Are they paying too many people too much to make it cost effective. I then asked if volunteers with viable experience in handling the technical aspects of websites would be able to help. Many people have already offered to do so. I would offer my services in this realm as well if I had the proper skills to do so.

I have received no feedback whatsoever. I wrote my "Contact Us" message almost a week ago and in defense of Admin3 I only messaged that person yesterday. It would be nice to actually get some sort of answer though. So far a lot of members have been participating in my poll and hopefully that gives the powers that be a better understanding of the people they are alienating.

I believe it will give them an accurate measure of how many currently active members there are (so please, please start voting), will either prove or disprove my notion that many of us will simply ignore this site and its other social media outlets because we think so little of those outlets, and that some fans are willing to either pay a yearly subscription fee or donate some funds once in awhile just to keep this board running. I mean if that doesn't show them how dedicated we all are, then I don't know what would.

BOARD CLOSURE DATE CHANGE

Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback on this thread. We wanted to ensure we provided ample notice to the community of the shutdown and originally felt that 3+ weeks was suitable. Also, with the NFL calendar now spanning 12 months, we realize that there is no "best" time to sunset the boards. However, with the amount of chatter that occurs during the free agency period and draft, we understand that March 31 may not be the ideal time to close the discussion.

With that in mind, we have decided to leave the message boards up and running through the draft. The new shutdown day will be Friday, May 5 -- one week following the NFL Draft. We realize that many will still be upset that the board is closing, but we hope this provides members an opportunity to continue the ongoing dialogue during this busy time of year.

I get put down when I suggested escalators for the 500 level which should be ready in a couple of years anyway.  I was called lazy. If they don't like them, they'll probably just keep stairs or ramps at one part of the stadium for those who want to walk.   If you don't want them, I suggest you stand outside the club level and you'll get a bunch of angry people if you say they don't deserve them.

We were told that less then half the teams had message boards by the end of the season, it seems to be a dieing 'thing'.  Where else can you go to someones employer and demand they be fired?  I noticed last year the death of boards on sites like ESPN, which surprised me, IMBd which really surprised me, PFT has had several polls asking members if they want commenting first one in 2013 I think and a bunch of news sites have gotten rid of commenting/ boards because of the keyboard bullies and negativity.

Admin 3 is on the Ravens staff the moderators are volunteers.

So because other teams are getting rid of their message boards we have to get rid of ours? I haven't seen too many keyboard bullies here...

Thank a Moderator or Flock member who reported abuse so we could get rid of the post and if needed put the offender on hiatus.  There is a lot that goes on that quietly gets taken care of, one of the reasons new posters are on mod preview.

Many teams that had message boards no longer do, I went and did my own checking Pittsburgh has everything

but a MB, Cincinnati,Cleveland, Buffalo( they had one at the beginning of the 2016 season) Patriots, Jets have a bizarre social hub, Miami has links to fan sites,Indy and Tampa Bay do not have message boards Redskins, Giants, Falcons, Eagles, Jaguars, Cowboys, Texans, Panthers do have message boards but I'm not privy to what goes on behind the scenes or if they will continue, I just went through and clicked the links.

BTW @K-Dog that was one I'd my best birthday presents ever -- that win !  My husband just walked by and asked I was reliving happier times lol!
