Not to be rude, but whomever decided that FB and Twitter were better vessels for fans to connect, needs to have their head examined.

I come here for quality football talk and I will certainly not get it anywhere else because I DONT HAVE A FREAKING SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT. I can't wait to have out quality community here battle with twitter trolls and give up on team social media.

Honestly these forums are the only viable way to talk about football. Social media is a hellhole.

That's the forum I'm setting up. Feel free to click and create a profile.

For now I have to approve all new members but will do so as soon as im able for anyone interested. The bare bones are there, but still customizing appearances and forum rules.

I'll be appointing mods as well.

Dont expect it to be too active, until this is officially confirmed and we need an alternative, but everyones welcome.

well this is very sad big letter, little letter and its good of y ou to start another board.

Looks like we can post links.  For anyone looking for another board (or another board in addition to the ones linked), here's the one I mentioned.  We could use more knowledgeable Ravens fans

http://live4sportnetwork.com/forumlist/

at least we have a a choice of new places to cheer or call names

Once upon a time  Scout was the premier forums for Ravens fans.  This site basically killed that one, but it is still there and a little bit active.  There are still some dedicated posters.  May I suggest a mass migration back?  Here's the link to the "Ravens Talk" forum.  Many other forums ( off-topic, fantasy, etc.) are also available.

id vote for mod 3 suggestian due to modding for a long time

Just to dispel the various questions of those wondering if this is an April Fools joke, it is not. March 31 will be the last day the boards remain open.

This is ridiculous. What about those that don't have a Facebook? This is the only place where I can go to talk about the Ravens in a somewhat civilized manner.

if ya don't tweet or twit or facebook the mod 3 suggestion looks good

Wow. I can't begin to convey how disappointed I am. There is no better place to discuss the Ravens than this forum.  That is a fact.

FACT.  I don't have a twidder account nor do I want one.  I am following the RAVENS FB page, but that is far far far far from any sort of  "community" in any true sense. Not to mention the format is not conducive to continuing dialog.

This discontinuation is just a bad bad idea.
It is like chopping off two fingers because the others are working "just fine" .  FB has its place and its people.  Twidder has its place and its people.   Message boards, same thing.  Some means work better with some and not so much for others. All are very unique in their own way.  The discontinuation of these boards is completely and totally alienating a segment of the fan base.  In my opinion it is inexcusable.

My confusion on the shut down stems from the replacement. Over the years, I have gotten the chance to meet some really cool feel fans on this forum and I definitely wouldn't have been able to do that on social media. Plus, where the heck else am I supposed to post my mock drafts that no one reads anyway?

Precisely! I remember back in the day Amos Zeroue burned the hell out of our #1 defense and NFL chats, people were calling him the second coming of Barry Sanders. Shyeah, right

How much money are they even saving by taking down these forums? Honestly I'd be down with paying a couple bucks a year to keep it up, and I'm sure others would be too.

Do it. And if you need assistance of ANY kind, no charge, I am a web developer by trade, have been so for nearly ten years. I was also part of the team that did the makeover for RSR a few years back. PM me if interested. In fact, if you don't I think I likely will.

Sorry Admin 3. This is not intended directly at you, but the heads that made this decision are just plain short sighted and foolish. In the short term, you'll find no increase in traffic to your FB or twitter feeds and moreover will end up losing fan interaction which is critical to fan engagement. That is how the dollars flow - fans to club. I just hope whoever made this decision (probably anticipating some pushback but thinking it was needed to cut costs or whatever) better hope that the real powers that be - Owner Steve Bisciotti and President Cass are fully aware of this decision. Because if this novel business school churlish idea backfires, their heads will be the first to roll.

eraven it looks pretty clear.  when the board starts bout 2007 everythin was on th e upswing. the raven era from 2008-2112 was there and fans were mostly positive with a good team and new direction. now lots of folks are disagreein sometimes it boils over to name callin and they clean up the mess. but its not all happy talk now cuz its not all happy. the team is headin in the wrong direction and some folks are sayin it and others are true purple and defend to the end. its not like it was and they doan wanna be a part of the transition and that's there right. all things come to an end. getting along, this board, the rain of oz. times change

Thank you @ellicottraven for your critical, yet level-headed and respectful comment. No offense taken.

And while trolls and negativity are present on those channels, we have seen (particularly over the last several years) an equal amount of trolling/attacking/negativity on these boards. (I realize the users may not have seen it, but just ask the mods how many inappropriate comments have needed to be removed from this community.) The intent was never for Facebook or Twitter to completely replace the boards. We are only encouraging members to visit those platforms because they provide ways to keep you engaged with us and each other.

Ravens fans work productivity about to increase +35%.  It was probably everyones bosses emailing the forums telling them to shut the boards downs.  Twas us who killed it...

To clarify again, we do not view Facebook or Twitter as a "replacement" for these boards. They are just other social communities that we are encouraging people to engage with after the boards no longer exist. We completely understand how they are very different platforms and communication tools than this one.

I thought this was coming from the people above the moderators? So who is the "we" you are referring to?

As I understand it this decision is coming from the higher ups and the statement to begin this thread is essentially their press release. If that is not the case then you need to clarify it for all of us.

Seems to me the message from the statement is that this board is closing because the Ravens believe the fans can and are conversing more on other social media outlets for which the statement provides some links for. If that is not a strong suggestion/endorsement then I am not really sure why it was worth including them.

So since "we" understand that they are completely different platforms and tools then "we" should understand why this message board is so much better than those other outlets and a very strong reason as to why they should not be closed down. Are "we" paying attention to all of the backlash this announcement is getting? Are "we" starting to think this may not be a good idea?

"We" being the Ravens front office. And we have reviewed, will continue to review and appreciate every comment posted here. However, the plan is still to sunset the boards.

"However, we look to utilize our time and resources to focus on how we can best connect with our fans across an array of digital/social outlets."

That's not an acceptable reason to closing the boards.

Does it cost a lot of money or something to keep a message board? Lot of people don't use social media. Don't understand why anybody wants their lifestory out in public. Lots of people here that I respect their opinion. Now I might never hear from them again.

BOARD CLOSURE DATE CHANGE

Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback on this thread. We wanted to ensure we provided ample notice to the community of the shutdown and originally felt that 3+ weeks was suitable. Also, with the NFL calendar now spanning 12 months, we realize that there is no "best" time to sunset the boards. However, with the amount of chatter that occurs during the free agency period and draft, we understand that March 31 may not be the ideal time to close the discussion.

With that in mind, we have decided to leave the message boards up and running through the draft. The new shutdown day will be Friday, May 5 -- one week following the NFL Draft. We realize that many will still be upset that the board is closing, but we hope this provides members an opportunity to continue the ongoing dialogue during this busy time of year.

Still sad to see it go, but much better decision on timing.  This is definitely one of the busier times here and a lot of us have spoken ad nauseam about the draft, and it's great that we all get to see how those opinions and conversations end up.
