[News] Steve Smith Thinks Brandon Marshall Would Be A Good Fit In Baltimore

29 posts in this topic

The retired Ravens receiver said he talked to Marshall last week, when the former New York Jet gave him a heads up that his release could be coming. Smith said players reach out to him to get a feel for Baltimore because they know he'll 'shoot them straight.'

33 years old though... And he's always on the NFL talk show, I do not want to judge a book by it's cover, because I haven't seen much of his tape from New York. But I do not think he's what we need.

Honestly, I would consult Ray Lewis about what moves this team should make and which FA's if any he thinks would be the right player to give this team a turn around.

If the Ravens can get over their domestic violence hypocrisy

Poor choice of words on your part. You don't "get over" domestic violence.

I have to worry about what Smith actually said to Marshall. He didn't say that he told them the Ravens were a great organization or that he thought it would be a good career move for Marshal. He said he thought it might be a good fit. S

Smith was really irritated by the checkdown offense the Ravens ran last year, he didn't get the catches and yards he anticipated, I am sure he told Marshall that with Flacco at QB, he is not getting a top flight QB who is going to help Marshall put up another 1000 yard season, that is unless he lines up in the backfield.

It was the comments about Perriman that made me nervous. I interpreted what he said as "BP has to show he has the fire to push himself to greatness". Worrisome.

He is absolutely right, Flacco is the quarterback everyone thinks he is.

Ray Lewis needs to hired in some capacity, a coach, consultant or evaluating draft or player talent. Flacco did not win the last Super Bowl, it was Lewis's will. We still need him.

it could work if the price is right

Marshall would have been a great fit 2 years ago when we were still serious contenders. We are now in aged-veteran and salary-dump mode. We completely lack any kind of top-5 blue chip talent (aside from Weddle and Yanda). There are way too many holes to fill and so Marshall won't be the player to take us over the top. At age 33, I'd pass.

Not really, his choice of words were perfectly fine. He never said for people to get over domestic violence, he said the hypocrisy that the team shows when deciding which players to sign based on their history with domestic violence.

Big athletic wideouts running great 40's. I'm waiting on the drills to see if there is a big hands route running playermaker in this class that we can use,if we don't sign a proven veteran.

I know that average means mediocre but I do not think 10-6,11-7 is an improvable improvement form 8-8. I think I have the same feelings .,he just had his worse year ever and I do expect some improvement from him.

Sorry Triple " S " but Mike Wallace is the vet now! I want to see the youngsters play Perriman, Moore, Campy! They can't learn from mistakes and drops if they are not on the field! Marshall is working off the field like he did last season plus trying to play football! If a WR goes down maybe pick him up if available but not now WE GOOD!

How does bringing in guys for one or two years help Joe in the long run? This is just dumb long range strategy.

Why would we want Brandon Marshall when we have super stud Breshard Perriman? lol

Come on man, he finished ranked 101 out all the receivers in the NFL! What the heck do you expect out of a first round pick in? .

So you don't think C.J. Moseley is blue chip?
Just so you know, both Yanda and Weddle are well into the back nine of their careers. I'm assuming that you are counting on B. Williams to leave. What about Ronnie Stanley? How about Jimmy Smith? I wouldn't discount Jimmy Smith because of his injuries. Last year, his injuries were not the kind that would alter his playing ability moving forward. Remember that the Chargers thought Weddle couldn't play anymore because of injuries.

So when you look at the Ravens roster and only see Yanda and Weddle, I say that you are looking through a badly fogged lens.

Interesting comment. Quite too often WRs sign here thinking that Flacco is great but only to see that despite his strong arm, he is very inaccurate on deep throws, struggle with reading defenses, have very little pocket awareness etc.
I wonder too how that whole conversation went. I'm sure SSS conveyed that The Ravens are a great organization.

I think he could work when Ryan Fitzpatrick was playing good marshall had 1000 yard season so think about what joe could do with him it worked well with mike wallace he had his worst year in minnesota comes to Baltimore and has a 1000 yards

1.)Steve Smith played at about 80% all last season, I doubt he was irritated at all with the check downs and more with the run game fluttering just like the other members of the team.

2.) Flacco got Mike Wallace back on track with a 1,000 yard season which on his last two teams didn't happen...mmm wonder why (*cough QB)

3.) Brandon Marshall put up 1,500 yards and had Geno Smith/Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing him the ball imagine what he could do with a QB that you know actually has won a playoff game and a super bowl.

4.)The young WR's will still get touches trust me, we'll have Mike, Breshard, Moore and Camp. Add Brandon Marshall and its all over.

I really don't think we're going to be in salary dump mode. Perhaps you think we should be, but I don't think our FO will see it that way.

We need to bring in a WR that can make an impact. Yes, he's 33 and yes, he'd have been a more valuable addition 2 years ago. But if he were younger, we'd not be able to afford him. At his age, he'll potentially be able to be brought in at a right price and could still contribute. To me - that's the right fit.

Many are talking about Garcon, but I think what Marshall would bring beyond Garcon - and what we DESPERATELY need - is a red zone target. We're abysmal in that category and I think he'd give us a boost in that area.

I agree that there, definitely, is hypocrisy occurring in the NFL. And, if the Ravens sign Brandon Marshall, our FO will absolutely be guilty of it. Ray Rice was a model player, and man, who was Extremely active and generous with his time and money to the community of Baltimore. In fact, he still is. I will not deny even for one instant, that he made an inexcusable, alcohol induced, simply Horrible mistake that night in that elevator. In fact, his now wife did as well. But, the hypocrisy came in when he was treated so much differently than so many other players in the NFL have been for DV infractions. And, Please believe me, I am Not even Hinting that DV is not an Extremely serious problem. But, Ray Rice was Condemned for his moment of horribleness, while others have always been just Convicted. There IS a difference. Ray has One offense. Brandon has several. So far, and very happily, they seem to have come to realize just how terrible DV is, and both have taken every opportunity to learn how to change their thinking, and, more importantly, their actions on this issue. I whole heartedly wish them continued success in their endeavors to never commit another offense of this deplorable kind. I just cannot bring myself to understand why Ray Rice, after One offense, paid the price that he did, which was the inability to ever play football again, while everybody else that I know of, even after Multiple offenses of the same variety have paid with only temporary suspensions. To me, that is most definitely hypocrisy.
